You know what makes BTS different with other groups, is that all of their songs are always made based on their situation in real life, that's why each of their songs have a very deep meaning actually. They always involved in their song production, they wrote their own lyrics and they share their stories through their songs, that's why many people feel attached to their songs, and not only that but sometimes they too also make songs based on social issues that happened in the world, and that's why many people feel familiar with their songs. That's the power of BTS, this is the engagement they've built since day 1.

Yep, although not a hard stan - just ARMY. 55-year-old American mother of a 20-year-old daughter here - huge BTS fan, and their Korean music is my strong favorite over their English-lyric music. Not all Americans are as close-minded as you think. BTS sold out stadiums in the US in 2018-2019, and was on the way to selling out an 8-city tour in the US with multiple dates in each city (think Rose Bowl, Met Life, Soldier Field, and Cotton Bowl). There aren't many "mainstream" US acts that can do that. Radio Play does not really equal mainstream anymore.

A big reason why many people have missed hearing out on them is that Bangtan doesn't get radioplay. Like, at all. They refuse to participate in the inorganic way that major labels promote their artists: pay-to-play. Basically, radio will tell major record labels, “Okay, we'll play your artist's songs. But you have to pay us." BTS doesn't do that.
Bangtan started from and took off from a grassroots following on the web, and that is how they got to where they are now. We love to see it.

I meeeaaannn they aren’t “main stream” in the US, but isn’t that just about what most people like? Maybe they’re not there and need to use butter to break through I hear you, but I don’t even know if they need to, or if they even can bc they’re so huge that if they’re not getting recognition now then they never rlly will to the extent they deserve. They’ve basically overtaken every live American awards show they’ve attended since they were invited for the first time in 2017. Pretty funny when none of the celebs knew what was going on when the boys walked in and the room just erupted. And that was back then, wait til they (probably) attend the AMAs in November and you’ll see what I mean. It’s like there’s no time for anybody else lol. So who cares what mainstream is when we all know who’s actually on top lol

You're right 100% my friend. Some people they underestimated the power of K-POP. For me, I love BTS to sing in their own language. I'm not Korean but since I love BTS I learned how to sing in Korean even though my pronunciation is not quite good but I'm almost there. I bought a lot of materials that I can use in understanding the Korean lyrics in English words very well. Well, anybody can learn Korean language if you really wants to learn it. But K-POP songs is way better to sing it in Korean language than in English. God bless BTS & ARMY'S!!!!!

Fun fact: Mic Drop has 5 versions
    1. Korean Ver (Original version with more rap in Korean)
    2. Steve Aoki Remix (More rap in English)
    3. Japanese Version (Yes they sing songs in Japanese too)
    4. Ft. Desiigner
    5. MAMA performance remix (for dance break)
BTS were supposed to be a hip hop group but they decided to be K-Pop instead. This way, they can be super versatile and more experimental. BTS never stick to a just a few genres. Also, all the members are really hands-on when it comes to producing because they're sincere musicians.
"Their lyrics wouldn't sound as cool when it's in English" Well that's because English isn't as nuanced as Korean. English is one of the easiest languages to understand and use because it's simple. Mastering it is another thing though. Wordplay sort of works in a different direction when it's in Korean too. Hence, a direct translation would be very awkward. However, this is the beauty of different languages and it's cool how English can be slotted into almost every language.
Their fanbase is made of people from all parts of the world. Japanese fans make up the most its population followed by Indonesians and Indians and other countries. US fans comes in fourth. BTS really brought people together, no matter the age, gender, sexuality, race or creed. This is great because the idea of the world being one family should always be important. BTS has a huge influence on the world when their fandom has this size and impact now.
And that's why BTS doesn't need to be on the radio in the US to always top the charts cos they have lots of devoted fans who listen to their music on their own and still buy their physical albums. Music transcends any language and barriers. Besides, with the help of international ARMY, their lyrics can be translated almost immediately and accurately.

we wouldn't get the legacy bts has right now without their korean lyrics where they are free to express anything they or the people around them are going through. that's why we are staying with them: because behind insane quality hype tittle songs there are b-sides that tell the real story. they were like that since the beginning, they always spoke up about underrepresented issues, and they still haven't betrayed this belief. as Magic Shop said, they wanted to succeed, surely, but in the end their main goal was always to make people's lives if even a little bit happier and easier

This was in direct response to haters that kept saying BTS would never amount to anything and that RM, Suga, and J-Hope couldn't call themselves rappers since they were "Idols". One rapper specifically was extremely rude and dismissive when they first debuted; years later he "apologized"... this is BTS basically telling him to "Piss off. we don't need your apologies or approval." Actually I’m from the State and I love their Korean songs more than their English songs they wrote and produced them and they are more meaningful and more my type of music …there are actually a ton of US Army in the US even in 2017 and 2018 before they release any English songs they already sold out all concerts in the US back then. The reason why they got so many billboard no 1 recently is because Army in the US are streaming and buying not because of radio play. Any foreign downloading does not count toward billboard. We love BTS's music, kindness, style, fun, swag & lyrics!!! This song was not bragging - it was slap back to haters who did not believe they could or should succeed. BORAHAE y'all 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Everyone was on their game; and Hoseok man. Hoseok. He carried this video on his back. Right from the start he came out hitting hard. The rap, the dance. Suga, Rm killed it too. Then mafia boss V... Everything is so good. Jk, jin, and Jimin's fierce expressions. 🔥🔥
Rm suga and Jhope are real mcs. They rap rap.

Rap Monster explained that the song was inspired by Obama’s speech at the 2016 White House Correspondent’s Dinner. “His mic drop was something that expressed, ‘Wasn’t my speech dope?‘
In that way, our song ‘Mic Drop’ is a track that expresses our swag, hopes, and confidence.”
Judging from the lyrics of Mic Drop delivered by BTS, this song is dedicated to BTS haters. This song insinuates haters who once sneered and doubted the ability of BTS to achieve success both in South Korea and on a global scale.

The beginning of the song was opened by J-Hope who did not accept it if he was labeled as a ground spoon. This spoonful expression of land is inspired by the economic situation in South Korea which is divided based on the theory of spoon classes, including gold, silver, bronze, plastic, and land according to the amount of income.

If you are born out of wealth, then you will be included in the category of gold, silver, or bronze spoons. Meanwhile, if you are born in an ordinary family, you are called a plastic spoon. The last group is a spoonful of land that is pinned to families who are deficient.

J-Hope continues that he has several golden spoons that can cover the mouths of BTS haters. One of them is BTS's achievements such as holding concerts with all the tickets sold out, making headlines on international media portals, and often invited to world-level music events.

Suga later added that he apologized to his mother for the achievement of his excessive success. However, on the one hand he managed to meet the expectations of successful parents who had not previously been reached by his father and mother.
Although the Mic Drop song lyrics sung by BTS contain allusions to haters, but this song also holds meaningful messages. From this song you can learn not to underestimate someone's dream even though it sounds impossible though.

So I’ve been ARMY for over two years. My first exposure was seeing them on The Voice. Right away I recognized their talent. Mic Drop was probably the fourth video of theirs I watched and loved it. It is still one of my favorites along with Dionysus and I’m an old R & B lover. I think there were many more US fans prior to Dynamite than most people realize. I am happy they have English language songs only because it will expose them to more people. I truly think there are very few people that once they discover BTS’s huge diverse discography don’t become fans.

in the full version there is a drop, if you feel confused or can't concentrate on both lyrics and visuals (which is normal for a person who's not used to watch stuff in other languages) I recommend you watch a lyric video first and then an mv or live performance until you can actually do both at the same time, I'm a native portuguese speaker but I grew up with english in my life so it wasn't that difficult to do it with korean, it just takes a little effort

The mention of spoon (golden spoon) in JHope's initial lyrics has cultural reference to SK's social strata. Plus this is their response to all the hate & decrimination that BTS were constantly receiving way back then.

This is my favorite BTS song and its's what made me check out other BTS songs. You have no idea how happy I was to hear SUGA and RM rapping in Butter. Love it.
This is also what got me into checking out other Korean bands and Korean rap artist. If you like this then you should check out RM"s good friend Zico and his k-pop group Block-B. They were one of the first K-pop bands to introduce a rap line and are also known as the Anti-kpop group because they debuted with tattoos and piercings and openly dated. Not to mention the slew of bad luck they had their first couple of years that caused them to have a petition started for them to kill themselves. (People are insane, I don't know.)
They didn't listen and embraced their position as the kpop brats. Their song VERY GOOD is their come back after all the bad luck and its a hit that's making a comeback thanks to bands like ENHYPEN preforming it this year.
Also, I will bug you until you cover them. Just so you know.

This song is deep because of how they started out compared to all other kpop groups and how they worked hard to get where they are. Their fans had a lot to do with their growth. That’s why there is so much loyalty from BTS and from their fans. To better understand a lot of these videos and songs you’ve got to do a Who is BTS video reaction because it explains so much.

What’s crazy is all of the effects shots. My favorite is right after RMs first rap break. The shot looks like he’s dancing in front of a mirror (the move you said you’d look stupid doing) but as he goes around the room, other members show up that aren’t seen in the reflection. The reason they’re not seen is because that’s actually a window and a double dancing in the other room to look like a mirror. Check it out.

BTS never had a deal with Gucci. The only clothing deals they have are with LV, Fila and Puma. So when they wear their drip, they wear it because they want to. :) And also, a correction: this version of Mic Drop was specifically produced for the English and US audience. If you've never heard of it, it's because as usual, they didn't get any kind of airplay because they are Korean.

ARMY here💜I'm sure a lot of fellow ARMY's know this already but something interesting about a high percentage of BTS music videos is they don't use CGI all the time. The car blowing up in the background at 10:39 was actually real and was not CGI. And for Fake Love when the floor is falling with Jungkook running, that was also not CGI same with the Fire MV when the car dropped. Sorry if I spoiled anything I just wanted to let you guys know since I find it cool💜Love from the US

Great reaction. They say this was influenced by Barak Obama 's famous Mic drop. This wasn't a simple flex. This song was a gut kick to former "friends" in the music industry who went out of their way ti shade, troll and undermine BTS. When RM says " live a life man, Good luck" we all felt that slap down. BTS uses little or no CGI, the behind the scene is fascinating.
