I think this reasoning about BTS popularity in the west it very weak. According to your logic the novelty of being a boy band after a hiatus in the west makes boy bands popular then why only one. No other boy band or even girl group is anywhere near them.
You have also to realise their fandom ARMY is the most unique fandom ever. Our loyalty and dedication plus the bond with BTS is unmatchable.

Also, majority of us are non Koreans and only a deep dive into BTS makes one get their lyrics which are so poetic at times and harshly critical of society and haters at other.
I kind of agree. There have been hundreds of kpop groups but the only ones that are well known in the west in my opinion are BTS and Blackpink. I don't like BTS because they are kpop, I like BTS because they are BTS and to me no other group is like them. I think it cheapens their success to say they are successful here in the west because they don't have any competition and there is a void to fill. I hate when I see comments like if One Direction were still together BTS wouldn't be this popular. First of all plenty of groups have co-existed at the same time, and One Direction and BTS have completely different musical styles and performance so not every BTS fan enjoys One Direction and vice versa.

Apparently you don't understand the changes that comes with growth. The more they grow, the more their style will evolve. Its with all artists. The way you think is the way your art evolve. Meanwhile why all these comments and recommendations of other Artists under BTS' videos? Why don't you go make your own reaction video and post it? I don't even mind the recommendation as long as the reactor asked for them but do you have to put BTS down first before making your recommendation? I just don't get it.
Growth and maturity does not equal midiocrity. Music & humans are constantly evolving & changing. Back then their growth was outwards, testing their wings and exploring and flying out to the wide world. They were out to prove and were hungry.
As they grow older they have delved more and more inwards, exploring deep psyches and how our inner selves is a whole universe to explore in itself.
