Or if it continued for a bit further he could've killed Optimus but not destroyed the matrix and that's where Rodimus comes in and eventually in a final battle Rodimus and Megatron team up to end Unicron and Galvatron, they succeed but Megatron sacrafices himself to do it, ending the war

Transformers prime shockwave was genuinely really well done, a cold hearted scientist believing in logic, rarely felt the need to rush anything, and powerful, with an excellent voice
I have always viewed Shockwave as one of the most terrifying decepticons. Mainly due to the fact that he only views things logically and will betray Megatron if it serves Cybertron to rise and that he views the autobots as nothing more than a puny rebellion that he will uses as lab rats. Whether you are his ally or his foe you are just a variable to him. The fact that he can look so emotionless as he blasts anyone just for the sake of "it is only logical that you die. For Cybertron to live." To me makes him one of the most terrifying foes the autobots will face. That is why to me personally he died in the original movie, a fitting end, he spent his entire life to bring the best out of Cybertron, to bring it to it's peak through logic, only to see his work crumble around him by something entirely illogical, chaos in carnet.
The only thing really stopping him is people who don't act based on logic. That's why characters like Prowl (also logical) can't realy crack every case. They assume people act based only on logic alone. We don't. Sometimes people experience feelings which guide their action and that is why autists like Shockwave can't really be leaders imo. They fail to understand the motivations of other people to be able to predict what they will do. When something isn't logical, it causes them to faulter because they don't understand other people properly. This is today referred to as "emotional intelligence" (yes I know it's a dumb term and I myself don't use it) and important for charismatic people who are leaders of large groups to control their followers. (politicians) Without any charisma nobody is going to follow you. That is why Megatron is superior because he has the logic too, but understand why Autobots fight to protect fleshlings out of heroic virtue. Shockwave probably just sees it as autobots wanting energon from humans to use against decepticons which is NOT true. But shockwave if he was leader would fail to see the reason to use human fleshling people that are worthless to him as part of a plan to control Optimus Prime. So although Shockwave can be quite scary, he is not sociopathic the way Megatron is to be able to manipulate people's emotions like politicians and get whole groups of people on his side while understand the weakness of heroic and virtuous people who act like knights that must follow a code. This is why the Joker in the Dark Knight was so interesting because he took advantage of Batman's "no killing" rule to piss him off so much. lol (knights have codes you see?) By understanding emotions and others you can win battles with less losses. Logical people who don't understand other people's motivations have a smaller playbook of plans to use. They will just look at everything as math. It's not how the world works. We have spiritual values, beliefs, and emotions and this is what seperates us from machines which just see the world a objects around us. It can be used to empower people (such as using anger to fight harder) or as a weakness (optimus prime sacrificing his own men to protect humans or going easy on megatron after he could have captured or killed him to end the war faster). Shockwave being ONLY logical is less capable as Megatron since Megatron has more "emotional intelligence" which lets him use political tactics to build strong army that looks up to powerful and charismatic leaders who also can instill fear to stop bullies from defying them. (bullies are cowards that only target people weaker than them) Strong leaders can police the local bully of the area and swoop in as a "hero" to bring order. You don't have this unless you are good at fighting and combat which Megatron is clearly superior at compared to all the decepticons around him. Without order, you don't have stability. Without stability you get in-fighting and that only weakens the army and gives enemy an opportunity to take advantage of the chaos. So strength, charisma and intelligence (both emotional and war tactics) are needed as well as respect (Megatron is clearly stronger than all the other decepticons save for Devastor who is still not highly-skilled when combined due to bad co-ordination - but after megatron died in the 1986 movie Devastator quickly came in to declare himself the most worthy replacement due to low ranking and low intelligence decepticons favouring strength and brute power over other qualities) Shockwave if he ever fought Megatron wouldn't be as good at actual fighting since he is more of a scientist type. Similar to Tony Stark being good with tech but not being as skilled as Captain America in combat since Captain America is a soldier with warrior mindset. Shockwave may also lack power to kill megatron. Without power you can't beat someone in a fight only survive against them. For example you never see any car robot take on the dinobots in a one vs one duel accept for Optimus Prime who fights them in the cartoon. (Optimus Prime has high strength to actually beat a dinobot in one vs one fight) The dinobots only respect people who are stronger than them or at least on par with them. If Optimus Prime was weak the autobots may not have them as allies in battles since they respect only strong warriors. Shockwave being too nerdy to kill Megatron, means nobody in the ranks of the decepticons would listen to his orders unless they came from Megatron himself. Being weaker puts you lower in the pecking order in military since you don't have the power to pull off daring mission yourself. Tough guys don't take shit from nerds even if they are right. It's about respect. "Beat me in a fight then I will obey" is how many decepticons probably think. That is how Megatron got control of them probably because they tried to kill him and lost the fight and the proof of his power is in how he can beat you in combat. This is why Starscream always addresses him as "Mighty Megatron" to stroke his ego so he has his guard down. He knows megatron prides himself on being the best pure warrior in the group. If you want respect: beat megatron in one vs one then you get to replace him as leader.

The irony of using the word reality...
Thing about Shockwave which I always hated was, in both the U.S. and the U.K. comics, he always, ALWAYS got the best of Megatron. Every time he plotted against him, he got his way. Heck, he wound up using the Predacons against Megatron TWICE!! (On both sides of the Atlantic!) I suppose that's a testament to his cunning and, indeed, logic, but, hey, this is freaking MEGATRON we're talkin' about. Megatron OWNS the Decepticons, each and every one of 'em, from chassis to spark. That's why I loved in issue 9 of the Dreamwave comic, Megs FINALLY put one-eye in his place! In issue 10's letter column, even the editors said it was an overdue, well-deserved smackdown! And I still lament Dreamwave's demise because we never got to witness the fruits of Megatron's plans for Shockwave (and Starscream) firmly under his thumb module. Ah, well. That's what fanfictions are for!
I too also want to be believe Shockwave is alive and well helping restoring Galvatron back to Megatron. I think Shockwave will look good if he has a female decepticon companion such as Slip Stream
I started with Prime, yeah I’m a latecomer so that will always be the definitive version of Shockwave to me. I also find it has the best combination of his varying portrayals nicely.
I also started with Tfp, and i loved Shockwave from his first scene. He shoukd've showed up more. Well, technically i started with Armada, but i was _very_ little back then and i _still_ haven't seen all the episodes. I used to have toys of Armada Megatron and somebody else, but my brother broke them and mom took them and threw them away by force because she had something against fixing things.
I remember having a DVD of “The Transformers Generation One Season 2 Volume One” and The Episode: “Autobot Run” was on it, and I swear to god, I never noticed Shockwave was in that episode at all, and ever since I saw this video, I would suddenly notice him in that episode now, when I re-watched the DVD.
😂😂... I thought I was the only one that bought that cheap radio shack shockwave.... I totally forgot all about it until the narrator mentioned it in this video.... unfortunately I was late buying transformers and I was living in a small town where the toys were scarce...we didn't get a toys r us until after I graduated which of course I was done with toys.....but I do remember buying a real Shockwave about a year after that cheap radio shack one got busted up
Yeah Roddy, I tend to believe that our one eyed G1 friend is still around. There's a reason why that script did not make it to the movie! Great retrospective bro! Hope your move is going smooth. Till all r one!!
Still getting the house ready for the big move. It's stressful trying to get it all done in addition to working on these videos. Thanks for the support.
Man hang in there, know exactly what your going through, doing it now as well..My mom died, left us her house, Well it's lots easier to do some things before you move in, floors, painting, general remodeling etc. Know you'renot alone..we are about 2 months out..Good luck!
My Favorite Decepticon By Far!!! Defeated Megatron twice, the only decepticon who made megatron call him "Commander", Defeated Optimus, Scorpnok, and the Dinobots, three OMEGA Units (Omega Supreme sized Bots) with one blast. Excelent military strategist and scientist, and also became a Prime! It is good to remember he was the Military commander of the decepticons and Megatron True second in command of the decepticons. Starscream tried to usurp Megatron´s place because Shockwave wasn´t there... In Dreamwave´s "War Within" after Sarscream thought he had killed Megatron after blowing the place where he was... He tells Shockwave he is the Leader now... But Shockwave makes Starscream undestand he will return after he finishes the battle on Iacon to take leadership, and starscream was clearly afraid of this... And I personaly think Shockwave didn´t die on G1.
I too have always had "head-cannon" that Shockwave was in hiding, trying to find a way to convert Galvatron back to Megatron...However, in my story, when the conversion process commenced, something went wrong and Megs & Galvs became 2 separate entities, dividing the Decepticon factions (because they hated each other)... On a side note, why wasn't the Diaclone gun, 'Browning' ever used in any of the TF series? All the guns could be combiners: Megatron, Galvatron(if used as a separate entity), Browning, Sixshot, and Shockwave, except they wouldn't turn into a giant robot, but a huge cannon (like the booms on the SDF-1)..but they would all hate each other, therefore making it difficult to utilize that firepower.
I do believe that Shockwave fate was that like in Transformers Prime where he escaped in a escape shuttle or pod until time is right for his return back to Cybertron.
I always considered Shockwave as having survived the film. Like you said it was never technically shown that he didn’t and I always chalked it up as to him being pushed to the background because of the reasons you suggested
Since Shockwave was never seen definitively dying on screen in _Transformers: The Movie,_ I assume he survived Unicron’s attack. However, I prefer his characterization in the Marvel Comics as a cold, calculating and powerful contender for Megatron’s role as Decepticon leader.
I’d love to see a story where Shockwave becomes the Decepticon Leader after Megatron’s defeat from the Autobots. In his calculating logic, Shockwave would make Soundwave his second-in command. The two would become two cold, heartless machines with the goal of conquering planets, including Earth, and have the inhabitants into slaves or “the Human Decepticons”. It would be both awesome and logical to have it happen.
Shockwave should have been portrayed as Megatron’s brother given his very similar gun mode. In fact, Megatron should have had an identical gun mode before his reformat on Earth.
Another great video Rodimus Primal. Keep the updates going. Would love to see a mention of "Shattered Glass" versions in the videos if you can squeeze them in.
i honestly loved the dreamwave version, for me that was the first time being introduced to the character when i was beginning to get into transformers when i was younger just how he did something that even (throughout the comics and books i read at the time) the leader of the decepticons AND autobots couldnt do, restore cybertron and end the war
It actually has to do with the beginning of the war. Megatron wanted to stop the caste system. When cybertronian's are brought online, their given a job for life. Even if it's a garbage job and your better suited for something else, too bad, your a digger. Megatron wanted to end this, so he became a gladiator, and a damn good one. Eventually he had the minds of the people, especially the lower classes, and created the Deceptions to rise up and fight the wealthy and lazy classes they were toiling away for. And you guessed it, the higher caste were mostly the Autobots, as they dubbed themselves when the war began. Well needless to say, the deceptions were winning the war, forcing the Autobots off world, but to answer your question completely, Megatron ALWAYS, put Cybertron itself ahead of everything, at first anyway. And while he still does, his aspirations became tyrannical after a time, but by then they were already so loyal to Megatron that it would take a complete betrayal of their beliefs to change them, but Megatron truly liked both Soundwave and Shockwave as they were super loyal, super useful and super dependable. Hope this (short) explanation helps. I recommend checking out the IDW comics, and other media, TF Prime is also good for the Aligned continuity, which is the best storyline imo, and alot of TF fans. Have fun, it's a rabbit hole lol, but an awesome ride.
Shockwave is very sly and smart. I think he managed to escape, and has been hiding somewhere secret, and coming and going onto the screen from time to time.
Thanks! The original had a a lot of audio flubs, wrong aspect ratio on video clips, and needed expansion. This is actually twice as long as the original.
Honestly after the stupid twist IDW played with Shockwave in their comics, making him the damn Onyx Prime, the damn Onyx Prime who was supposed to be the greatest villain of the contuinity, Im glad they are going to reboot the IDW continuity
Yes I mean after his redemption in Dark Cybertron why the hell IDW ruined him that way?, he had finally acepted his sins and just that, they destroy their entire story of the Primes
Honestly..... I think since he was at the beginning.... they wanted him and Bumblebee to be there at the end.... plus they made him morally ambiguous.... like in transtech... also it also kind of made Diamond Bolt's dream about him coming back and becoming a prime a reality... so i feel indifferent about it but let me know what do you think about it OK good.
To be honest Dark Cybertron end in aperfect way, reshaping the very Transformers mithos forever, villains redeem themselves and changes their ways, so the very fact that Shockwave became a villain just because IDW could´n make a true villain of Onyx Prime simply ruin everything, all for what Shockwave had passed mean nothing, and for what?
Shockwave is an unusual and clever Decepticon with one eye that transforms into a giant laser gun. I have the Seige version and customized Shockwave to transform into a laser gun.
As a Shockwave loyalist, I love IDW's rendition of him in the Dark Cybertron series, as well as his spotlight comic. It really gives more depth to his character. But that's just me
Gen 1 comics were so much edgier than the gen 1 TV series, and one of the reasons is the characterization of Shockwave in the comics. Shockwave dominated. Made me nervous as a kid reading the comics. Like holy shit he just took out Megatron like he was nothing.
I always thought any Decepticon holding Megatron would just crush him up. Let’s face it, it was a huge amount of trust Megatron placed in characters like Starscream.
There was a rumours he was supposed to take the role Blitzwing took in 5 Faces and going against Galvatron. This would have been his swansong as he would become unaligned and disappear. However they made the switch as his toy was discontinued.
Shockwave surviving and killing onyx prime and becoming him totally ruined his character in the comics the dark Cybertron ending for him was good enough
In my eyes, if I didn't see him die than that means he's alive. Mann! It would of been awesome if we got to see JetFire, Combaticons and Stunticons in the 1986 movie even if it was only for a brief moment. As always great video!
Shockwave was bad ass in the comic. Overthrowing Megatron and holding the Ark and even Prime hostage. Plus he is a scientist type that uses his brain more. Love it. He also is the voice of Larry Chester in Gabriel Knight 3, which I'm streaming on my channel ironically enough now lol
Dang i remember him being at Radio Shack! I forgot all about that! Then once he went over to Transformers I was like WTF? In fact he was the first Transformer Toys R Us sold (at least in my area). It was an entire isle of just him! lol.
I really miss those aisles of nothing but cool Transformers that I used to see back then. Back when it wasn't so hard to find the Transformers toys that you wanted.
But he did he literally told all the decepticons on cybertron to attack unicron in the movie. And may i remind you that shockwave is the guardian of cybertron
Talking about Decepticon leaders, I really enjoyed the time when Shockwave lead the Decepticons in the MARVEL COMICS. I like to think, after the G1 movie, he was hiding on Cybertron. Coz with the Autobots on Cybertron, it is Logical to just hide and wait for the right time. Or he could be doing something like he did in TF Animated, where he disguises himself as a random Autobot. I still hope Hasbro would re-release G1 Shockwave and G1 Megatron toys. But If Hasbro can't sell Megatron coz he becomes a realistic looking gun, maybe they should sell him as a non-transforming toy locked in his robot mode. I remember in grade school, some of my classmates claimed that Megatron didn't transform, because we only had access to the cartoon and only a few people in my grade level had seen a catalog. The toys here were hard to come by back then in my area..
And also do a retrospective of fortress maximus, punch/counterpunch, starscream, goldbug, the pretenders, the headmaster juniors, scorponok, metroplex, arcee, inferno, sideswipe, smokescreen, hotshot, red alert, hoist, sunstreaker, the past primes, barricade, the stunticons, kup, the storm makers, brawn, the weaponizers autobots and decepticons, circuit breaker, landmine, prowl, ratchet, ironhide, wheeljack, windcharger, the technobots, bulkhead, wheelie, perceptor, sky lynx, crosswise, and lastly what is the unicron trilogy?

So basically thanos in a way
The corrupt senator was Ratbat, who was punished by the Decepticons losing his humanoid form and forced to join them as one of Soundwave's cassettes.

You don’t have to believe it ....in fact you should believe whatever makes you sleep well but reality is Shockwave was killed towards the end of the 1986 film by Unicron hand. It’s in the freakin movie script FFS

The irony of using the word reality...
Ah another updated “Revisit” I love it. Thank you!
I actually did 5 of them. Who Became Cyclonus, Skyfire/Jetfire, Shockwave, Dion, and Ultra Magnus. Glad you enjoy them.
"Gets distracted by parachutes". I shouldn't have laughed, I'm sorry.
The remaking of this episode was..... Logical.
This video is only logical
Making him an Onyx Prime impostor totally undid all of his character development...
I agree.
Yeah I hate it
Same here it was basically just I've realized what I've done wrong, but fuck it I like being a cunt
Didn't expect to find another biotuber here, and I agree, they ruined his character
Perhaps that maybe they were trying to make him like his Transtech counterpart morally ambiguous. Lets find one of the writers and find out.
I remember having a DVD of
“The Transformers Generation One Season 2 Volume One” and The Episode: “Autobot Run” was on it, and I swear to god, I never noticed Shockwave was in that episode at all, and ever since I saw this video, I would suddenly notice him in that episode now, when I re-watched the DVD.
i had the original shockwave toy from Radio Shack. it was a good toy but way out of scale. but scale didnt matter back then either, lol
Love how he starts off as a megatron rip off
Danny Vestal very sorry for your loss! :( Hope your move & remodel stays smooth too!
RodimusPrimal Your dedication to us TF junkies is very much appreciated.
5:33 Aww. Shockwave has a son. (Gun in his right hand.)
I like to think that Shockwave survived The Movie (1986). And just didn't appear in 3rd season of G1 Transformers.
G1 is, and always will be, the best wave of transformers
If we're talking about the original Marvel Comics one, then yeah
Also "Transformers Prime" version.
@@mwizachihana9551 and the Fall Of Cybertron one.
I like that his discriptions of all the other versions of the character are faily tame but he goes savage on the lame bayformer one.
Shockwave is one of my favorite Decepticon, and this video does him justice. Once again, well done! 🤖🔫💜💜💜💜
Awesome info in this! Huge Shockwave fan, thanks for this
In retrospective shockwave is always an awesome addition for any transformers media expect the movie 😒😒😒
I know right, it was so dissapointing
I choose to think of the movie version as Shockblasted the Drillbeast Tamer.
I agree. Dotm shockwave was hyped up and then did literally nothing except be disappointing.
Straight Busta and then I’m pretty sure that shot missed.
@@deepfry4173 Only good thing about DoTM Shockwave is that he had one of the best toys in the entire dotm line.
Hey you got new sub love your video! Shockwave is one of my favorite Decpeticon
Thanks! This was a worthwhile update to the original version.
Shockwave is one of mine too, along with Megatron. I just wished as a child that they were both a similar size.
Shockwave: It's only Logical that I'm your favorite.
Mines Too
Till all are one!
And then Dr. Smoov made him famous again on the internets.
Great vid sir!
I do believe that Shockwave fate was that like in Transformers Prime where he escaped in a escape shuttle or pod until time is right for his return back to Cybertron.
Loved the part when Shockwave was actually used as a gun by Bruticus...powerfull combination
I always considered Shockwave as having survived the film. Like you said it was never technically shown that he didn’t and I always chalked it up as to him being pushed to the background because of the reasons you suggested
I like the idea that he survived on Cybertron.
Awesome video about one of my all time favorite Decepticons.
Okay let's just pause for a sec @0:10 like just how badass Optimus was back then! Unpause
Since Shockwave was never seen definitively dying on screen in _Transformers: The Movie,_ I assume he survived Unicron’s attack. However, I prefer his characterization in the Marvel Comics as a cold, calculating and powerful contender for Megatron’s role as Decepticon leader.
The live action movies leave a sore spot for EVERYone.
Shocky is one of my favorite Transformers! I´ve got him from the Combiner Wars Series, as shown in this Video!!!
GREAT VIDEO! keep up the great work.
Thanks!
One of my most fav decepticons
The only way he could be more "Evil Spock" is of he had a beard.
(Yes I know Rodimus Unicronus has that beard, but it makes sense here too.)
I absolutely love your retrospect videos!!!!
Crazy. Shockwave is one of my favorite decepticons and yet I never knew that he was originally a radioshack toy.
Another great video Rodimus Primal. Keep the updates going. Would love to see a mention of "Shattered Glass" versions in the videos if you can squeeze them in.
I remember seeing the Astro Magnum toy in Radio Shack which would become Shock Wave later.
i honestly loved the dreamwave version, for me that was the first time being introduced to the character when i was beginning to get into transformers when i was younger
just how he did something that even (throughout the comics and books i read at the time) the leader of the decepticons AND autobots couldnt do, restore cybertron and end the war
I always wondered why Soundwave and Shockwave are so loyal to Megatron?
Sweet, I’ve been waiting for an update on this video.
When I read it I was very much annoyed too.
Yes I mean after his redemption in Dark Cybertron why the hell IDW ruined him that way?, he had finally acepted his sins and just that, they destroy their entire story of the Primes
Javier Santana Avilés at least idw did a good job in other comics
I like to believe that shockwave escaped headquarters but was flung off into deep space by unicron’s hand creating a huge rumble
I think that, some how, good ol' Shocky found a way to survive Unicron's assault on Cybertron.
There was a rumours he was supposed to take the role Blitzwing took in 5 Faces and going against Galvatron. This would have been his swansong as he would become unaligned and disappear. However they made the switch as his toy was discontinued.
It's true. I made a part 2 to this video that you can see here - th-cam.com/video/NujcE6qtM14/w-d-xo.html
Another great video👏👏👍my only source for Transformers, thank you for the time and effort you put into making these detailed videos.
Thanks!
I always thought that FoC Shockwave was the coolest of the lot.
Great video, by the way!
6:20. Shockwave was a Mazda RX-8? Cool
Shockwave surviving and killing onyx prime and becoming him totally ruined his character in the comics the dark Cybertron ending for him was good enough
He was damaged and he figured the logical thing to do was conserve energy High and wait for the appropriate moment to re-emerge
Forgot about his minor appearence in Transformers the game 2007 where he has 2 alt modes and is destroying the suburbs of tranquility
Prime Shockwave was dope as hell! Sobolov did an excellent job.
Nice video gave me lot if details on shockwave thanks for redoing the video
Its weird to me how there are 2 normal retail wreck gar toys in the prime wars trilogy but only one shockwave toy
Thanks for talking about shockwave he is my favorite
In my eyes, if I didn't see him die than that means he's alive. Mann! It would of been awesome if we got to see JetFire, Combaticons and Stunticons in the 1986 movie even if it was only for a brief moment. As always great video!
Shockwave was my brother's fave, because he had his toy back in the day
Shockwave was bad ass in the comic. Overthrowing Megatron and holding the Ark and even Prime hostage. Plus he is a scientist type that uses his brain more. Love it. He also is the voice of Larry Chester in Gabriel Knight 3, which I'm streaming on my channel ironically enough now lol
I find your assessments to be...logical 👍🏻
Dang i remember him being at Radio Shack! I forgot all about that! Then once he went over to Transformers I was like WTF? In fact he was the first Transformer Toys R Us sold (at least in my area). It was an entire isle of just him! lol.
I really miss those aisles of nothing but cool Transformers that I used to see back then. Back when it wasn't so hard to find the Transformers toys that you wanted.
Friend: Stop talking like shockwave!
Me: When your hit expenditure exceeds mine, then you may choose how I vocalise.
Love Shockwave!!!!! Great vid.
I believe that both Shockwave and Reflector survived, but were removed from the show just because they weren’t on the toy shelves anymore
Classic G1 Shockwave will always be around
Any character who didn't appear as a new toy died. It's common knowledge.
Shockwave is a cool decepticon but I love soundwave fav decepticon
No I trully believe Shockwave die by the hand of Unicron, theres no way he wouldn´t give everything to defend Cybertron to the very end
But he did he literally told all the decepticons on cybertron to attack unicron in the movie. And may i remind you that shockwave is the guardian of cybertron
shock wave is still alive and hiding
We'll probably see Shockwave again at some point, after all, it's only logical.
I have have a feeling you should do a collab video with Chris Mcfeely
I'm more than happy to do so if he's willing.
RodimusPrimal it would be a dream come true if it happen
Bring all the transformers gods in one video
PLEASE DO A VIDEO ABOUT THE STUNTICONS
Shockwave is awesome.
how...
analytical? is that the word?
I might say Shockwave is dead and thank you for the video of Shockwave.
Glad you enjoyed it. Revisiting Dion is next!
Ok thank you RodimusPrimal you are the best.
And maybe movie Shockwave don't had the T-cog.
DAMN, I never knew Shockwave's origins as a toy, and it's pretty interesting!
Nice remaster :)
Does the original video still exist though?
It does. It's currently unlisted but it's there.
