Mate I’m a builder and you’ve done some things “wrong” and you sure have taken some unnecessary flak from some commentators, BUT, for the price you paid you have got a great result. Good on you, keep up the good work. You’re happy, you’re family is happy, everyone else can take a walk.
You took a lot of abuse from the haters, much more than you deserved my man. But the result speaks volumes ("res ipsa loquitur"; the thing speaks for itself). Outstanding!!! Great job all the way around.
Oh, and regarding nails, dings and scratches: I want character and I feel it has a much more authentic look and feel. Would take this over laminate ANY day.
THE FLOOR IS AMAZING! I am "floored" by the negativity ... is hate looking for a home? Im sorry you were dealing with all that ... but you seem to have ignored them all and powered on to an amazing floor with a happy little Angel who seems to feel quite comfortable on it! THANK YOU for sharing it!
Praise the Lord! Thank you for having that (apparently) rare combination of brains and regard for your viewers required to post a follow-up. Well done.
I watched all three of your videos and I am impressed at your ingenuity and how you provided your family with lovely flooring at a reasonable price, but what amounted to a great deal of your time. Not everyone would have worked as hard to provide for their family. Kudos to you sir. I am about to tear up carpeting in my bedroom that is no longer viable no matter how many times I steam clean it and I looked at Bamboo 3/4 inch flooring, but the colors they offer do not work with my furniture which was my grandmothers and will never see paint. A lot of people said in the comments just do bamboo dude, without taking into consideration that not all of us want yellow or golden floors that will not work with the antiques inherited and their original finish that is part of the reason that they are so cherished. You have provided me with another option and I especially appreciate the follow-up video; many people who upload DIY videos do not provide us with the information on how well their project turned out under use by a family, especially one with small children and pets. You are indeed a Family Dad.
I have just watched all 3 of your plywood plank flooring videos and will bookmark them. We will embark on a total remodel of an old mobile home soon and this is exactly how I want to do the floors throughout. Your videos are so down-to-earth practical and the results are just what we are looking for. Thank you so much for your thorough explanations and practical suggestions. Especially the follow-up which is proof your method provides long-lasting results for the budget-minded do-it-yourselfers!
You may think others think it is silly but I fully agree with you. The scratches, gouges, little stains etc in an old hardwood floor give you the timeline and the character of the occupants of the house. "Seethat stain, that's where timmy lost a tooth spinning in circles and fell down". "That cratch there is rom the old couch we had for 10 years". Just all kinds of stories in things like that.
People who speak trash about Plywood flooring have no clue what pre-engineered stuff is made from. I'd say you can get just as good or if not a better product out of plywood if you finish it properly and use the right wood. The stuff you get at the store has a very thin veneer of either wood or a polyboard of some kind along with compressed fiber board stuff. Great job!
you're missing the fact that all plywood is rotary peeled(for cost). your plywood floor will always look inferior to the resawn veneer laminated to plywood
Chris I always go with white oak, but I’m not on a budget . My neighbor did hers in 4” pine ply; turned out ok. Rustic though. Perhaps the secret is in the finishing materials?
I have just moved into a home that we bought off the tax sales and the previous people who where in here 10 years ago painted the floor white. It’s a hassle to peel off so I decided to take room by room and do something. Thank you for sharing this because I will be doing this project!
I've watched all three videos and I think it looks great. I remember back when I was a kid this is how my Father and I floored our entire house (granted it was 50 some odd years ago but still). Don't pay any attention to the haters, they didn't buy any of it, help you install any of it, and didn't have to live with it either. Good job young man. Kudos to you!!!
I was wondering if this was possible. I am a DIWife and I laid bamboo interlocking planks in our new home. My daughter, who rents my old home, needs her carpets replaced. I know what we paid for our floors and I did not feel like spending that kind of money on a house I may sell in a few years. I may save up extra to get the oak as I like the grain better, but these videos have been EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
I've watched all 3 videos and didnt want to comment till I saw the end result. I think the floor turned out GREAT , you saved money ,and got the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Also the fact that you did it with second hand tools was very impressive. Great job..
Watched all 3 videos and could not be more impressed. I've put down several engineered floors and this competes with them all. Always love it when someone take an idea and shares with such great results.
I put hard wood ply flooring down 22 years ago and its just starting to be beyond clean/repair standards that's with dogs and 3 kids, I don't think i could have found anything else with that longevity
I did this in my house use a belt sander medium grade and fine grade then use sanding sealer then clear poly and after four years still good very durable...
I loved the way the floor turned out so much my wife and I did this in our living room. Well currently doing we are waiting for our 5th coat of polyurethane to dry. We can't wait for it to be done and move our furniture back in. Thank you so much for helpful tips.
I have had my plywood flooring down since 2001 and looks the same as yours, except in cherry. We used 8 x 4 sheets and routed the grooves for the planks and castleated the ends to join to the other sheet. Far quicker as I mentioned before in one of your earlier videos.
if you want seamless joints j dewitt just use full sheets but if you use manufactured laminate flooring or whatever it would show up with the different grain patterns i thought that was the whole point to make it interesting and not look like a sheet of plywood.....
J DeWitt The idea of the routed tongue and groove edges, is it makes it near impossible for the flooring to lift or twist. The grooves hole them all firmly and level with one another. The difference in boards pattern and end joints is an unavoidable part of wooden flooring. If you don't like it, you would be better with carpet, Lino or tiles. There is plenty of options for everyone's tastes.
I like the look. I'm going to do an install on top of a concrete floor. I will float the first couple layers and then nail the top layer on top of the floating pieces. I will be using Oak, so I can call it a hardwood floor!
Still looks amazing. Thank you so much for sharing these three videos with us I am definitely doing this because of you. I greatly appreciate the time and effort you put in to make sure to film this correctly. One recommendation would be to upload all three videos into one big video. Thanks dude
oh wow I just commented on the original video then found this one, answers both my questions! looks like it held up just as well as any wood floor would and indeed it looks nice finished. I think im gonna give this a try in my office, gonna go with 4" planks and oak instead,we shall see how it turns out!
I think the floor looks awesome and it's held up very well. I personally like the scratches and dings...all real wood floors have them it adds to the character! Who wants the same old laminate everybody else has anyway, I don't. Good job!
Floor is gorgeous and thanks for the update. I'm deff doing this. Thanks because I've been stressing over the amount of money I've been planning to spend on hardwood floors. And your daughter is too cute lol.
Love the idea and creativity! Takes guts to try something new. The sanded corners give kind of a beveled edge plank look with the stain and polished poly in the sunlight looks really nice. Glad you didn't have any issues with wear or planks coming up. You might look into some of the newer bamboo engineered flooring if you do another project. very durable, don't have to rip, sand, stain, refinish and is super cheap and installs super easily. Thanks for the vid!
I think it looks better after a little aging, seriously. In your second video where you finished it, I thought it looked good for what it was, but I really like it even more with a little wear and tear on it. I keep seeing comments about you getting a lot of hate over this. That's pretty typical from people that can't or won't go thru the effort, but like to run down everyone else. Awesome job, keep up the good work!
Awesome video. We we're planning on renovating our bathroom & living room floor. We have the laminate flooring. Not even 6 months after installation, it was already showing some major signs of wear. Now, less than 5 years later, it's worn out. We we're planning on installing ceramic tile, but we were gonna have to wait until we could afford it. Now, I think we are going to use your method. Thanks so much for posting this video. Me & my wife are both disabled due to a car wreck. We are on a fixed income. I think we can afford to fix our floor thanks to you
Glad you liked the series on this flooring! I would cation against putting this flooring in a bathroom though as consistent water getting in between the planks is going to cause issues. We had a few spills on this flooring with no trouble at all in the kids bedrooms but if you were to get pooling of water or water on a regular basis it may cause issues.
That's really showed the naysayers! Hardwood faced plywood is pretty cheap in the UK so you'd even be getting a hardwood finish. If it survives kids and dogs then that's a real test it has had.
Looks great! I've done this in my brother's rental mobile homes. We glue (Liquid Nails) and brad nail the planks to the subfloor. Instead of staining and polying, I painted the floors with high gloss oil-base paint in light gray (neutral color). Tenants move out and I just paint on a fresh coat of paint. It is more cost effective and durable than carpet and linoleum. And, it really looks great! No more ripping out and replacing flooring every 12-18 months.
Gosh I love it! We priced having our floors done and it would have been a few thousand ugh! Now I can see it happening we Can have beautiful wood floors, Thank you so much!
Like it! Think we will do this in our next project 😊 never would of thought of plywood till I watched this. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge 👍🏼
thanks for the update we did this in our master bedroom about a month ago used liquid nails to secure though since went down on concrete (single story house in southern AZ) glad I found first video
Amazing idea, well planned out, excellent DIY help for installation (just perfect amount of time used for video!), and it was pleasant to watch someone enjoy the actual work doing the project, not only the finished product. Well done!
I was going to ask the question then found the answer in this video. Awesome story/idea, sir. I have a small wood shop, my garage, and so I'm thinking about doing this. I'm almost not considering heavy traffic, I think it'll look good anyways.
This floor looks better than my "big box" tongue and groove that I just had installed. I have large separation between boards - it is winter so hopefully the summer will make it better and I did acclimate my floor before installing - just not quality. Love yours and will do in the next bedroom I am pulling carpet off of. Thanks for the update - I liked watching your first video and really appreciate you posting this - especially while moving. Thanks
Thank you so much for posting the video promptly!! I was waiting on it to make a decision and we are doing it. The floor looks nice. You did a wonderful job!! Thanks so much. Maybe I let you know how our project turned out. :)
Never mind the haters this is a DIY project and a great one didn't expect the out come to look so amazing but it did looks a lot better than those hard wood floors to me thanks bro keep up the great videos
Mashallah, I was trying to convince my wife to go the plywood route for ages, and I remembered your video from last year. she likes it. I like the price even better. Well Done God Bless
All I can say I loved when you put it down and still love it today. We have a cabin and it has given us ideas that I truly appreciate. Be blessed and are you moving to a new house?
I like it, I'm getting ready to make 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 6' & 4' planking using maple on one side. Building a 438' sq. ft tiny house, all my kids now have kids so I am on my next phase of life... Living 🤣. I love my children & grandchildren and love when they visit. Now my house is set up for them. God bless, really nice work on those floors 👍🏻.
I have to say the finish looks awesome. I have been looking to finish my basement floor which is elevated already, and this looks like a good option for a very cheap budget, but yours turned out really well. I have been looking at costs where it can range from $400 to $1000 for vinyl flooring and hard wood and manufactured. I am going to try this! Great work
Your daughter is so cute, and the dog is to, you are a good person, and I am thinking about ripping out the carpet in my home so I am considering all options. I am sure there is cement flooring under the carpet. Your floors look real.nice, Good Job ! 👍 🌈👵🏻
This is a great Idea and I am strongly considering this as I have just bought a house. And I even work at a flooring store, but hey stuffs expensive. Thanks for the details of your experiences. Cheers.
that is a really good idea and a good job. Just a bit of advice though... instead of paying for furniture protectors go to home depot and grab some free carpet samples.
I like the look of the plywood. It’s a great solution for people on a tight budget and need to floor a room. The only problem I would have with it is that it’s not a hardwood and is going to be more susceptible to dings and scratches.
Forget the haters this proves it can look good and last. I have one question though . How would you apply this method of flooring to a concrete floor ?
Nice! I considered that in my house a while back but came across some nice 15 year wide plank laminate for $.50/square foot so i went that way. I was thinking i would need to tongue and groove it though and that seemed like a lot more work. Nice to know how well it can turn out. Thanks for the video.
Superb! The biggest concern for me was the boards coming up overtime or separation between the boards from time expansion and contraction. This put my worries to rest. Thanks so much for all this wonderful information. Cheers!
Plywood moves less than solid wood. With plywood there won't be much separation but those gouges will happen easily. I'd go for expansion/contraction over gouges because gouges aren't seasonal. Also if you get hardwood that is quarter sawn it will move less.

Terry Herman very well said

I bought a house years ago it was 101 years old. The flooring was just like this. I loved it. You have done an amazing job. 👏

Baked aluminum oxide
Very hard & durable is one difference, but i like the intangibles of plywood flooring better.
you're missing the fact that all plywood is rotary peeled(for cost). your plywood floor will always look inferior to the resawn veneer laminated to plywood
Yes, but the laminate will always go “kilckiy-klack” when you walk on it, and the 3/4 ply won’t.
laminate and laminated is a major difference
Chris I always go with white oak, but I’m not on a budget . My neighbor did hers in 4” pine ply; turned out ok. Rustic though. Perhaps the secret is in the finishing materials?

im in ireland and about to re vamp a house. your ideas have got me excited. i might need a few tips from you soon. nice work buddy.
good luck!

Love it. My little house was built about 100 years ago and this would fit nicely and is more affordable for me. Thank you!
I am thoroughly impressed. I am building an off grid home and now know the floor I want to install. Thanks for an informative vid.
Scratching and gouging happens with hardwood too.
Love the old farmhouse natural look. Just beautiful.!!
all the scrapes the floor gets just gives it personality. I love this look!
I've watched all 3 videos and didnt want to comment till I saw the end result. I think the floor turned out GREAT , you saved money ,and got the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Also the fact that you did it with second hand tools was very impressive. Great job..

I did the same thing to my home.. years later.. it's holding up and i love it more than when i first did it.. any scratches just add to the charm
I put hard wood ply flooring down 22 years ago and its just starting to be beyond clean/repair standards that's with dogs and 3 kids, I don't think i could have found anything else with that longevity
is it just me or are your kids taking a while to grow up? :)
Triple B (Bend it, Break it, Bodge it!) 🤔
Hardwood last longer lol. But okay.
Good job, thanks for your time and effort
That floor is beautiful. And yes the scratches make it look even better.

glad to hear it! We loved ours and have now moved and are planning another room as well. Thanks for following up!
great to see some pictures please?
I appreciate your channel and the scripture at the end.

I like the look. I'm going to do an install on top of a concrete floor. I will float the first couple layers and then nail the top layer on top of the floating pieces.

AsTheWheelsTurn use a sealer before staining. liners s softwood.
Ian Powell s
Character! Scratches, dents, that's what gives it the authentic look!. I love it
We’re doing this now! Turning out beautiful! Thank you.
Thank you for the update, I never thought to use plywood as a flooring material.
I think the floor looks awesome and it's held up very well. I personally like the scratches and dings...all real wood floors have them it adds to the character! Who wants the same old laminate everybody else has anyway, I don't. Good job!
Really cool!!! I can’t believe how awesome you made these floors!!! I definitely will try this!!!
That's really cool. I like the look of it. Thanks for sharing the update on how it has faired.
After a year that floor looks awesome! Great job and I want to do that with my floor now.
I think the floors look great. So, great that I bookmarked your videos so that, hopefully, I can get my floors done the same way.
You made a believer outta me! I'm doin this in my house.l like the look and simplicity of it. Thanks
It's funny how the dog was looking around in the beginning of the video at the empty room as if trying to figure out who he was talking to.
That's really showed the naysayers! Hardwood faced plywood is pretty cheap in the UK so you'd even be getting a hardwood finish. If it survives kids and dogs then that's a real test it has had.
Choppington Otter would you mind sharing where you source that plywood in the UK? All the best.
Thanks for the update! You’ve given me food-for-thought towards renovating my house.
Looks awesome, thanks for the videos and hope you and your family are doing well.
I love your floor videos. I just saw them last night, and showed my husband. We will begin our flooring project next week. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for doing a follow up!! Beautiful craftsmanship! Nice work.
*it held up really well*
Tried ,Tested and passed with flying colors. Good work sir!!
thanks for the update we did this in our master bedroom about a month ago used liquid nails to secure though since went down on concrete (single story house in southern AZ) glad I found first video
I've been thinking about how this would work and look for years. great job and thanks for sharing.
Great job on those floors 👌 I'm tempted to do that in my van conversion. God bless you brother!
Thank you for the update! I was wondering how things were holding up.
Looks Great! Even after a year. Excellent. And Summer is adorable.
fix the scratches with shoe polish and a paper towel
Thanks for sharing. This is a fantastic idea. We r renovating our old,old house and this will save us so much money.
Looks good to me. I think now I may have found what I want for the floor in a van conversion.
Floors look really good.

I have large separation between boards - it is winter so hopefully the summer will make it better and I did acclimate my floor before installing - just not quality. Well Done
God Bless
All I can say I loved when you put it down and still love it today. We have a cabin and it has given us ideas that I truly appreciate. Be blessed and are you moving to a new house?
Great Job Pal! I'm going for it!! I live in an old farmhouse, and this might just do. it for me!!
Looks a million times better than any other crap that people think is great!
Nice to see it held up. What im wanting to do when I get my 2 room prefab cabin kit on my property.
I like it, I'm getting ready to make 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 6' & 4' planking using maple on one side. Building a 438' sq. ft tiny house, all my kids now have kids so I am on my next phase of life... Nice job..Floor has held up well and still looks nice.
Great work
Such a great project idea. Have to remove carpet this is super i thank you for your helpful videos. Its so perfect for us too.
Still looks fantastic!
Your daughter is so cute, and the dog is to, you are a good person, and I am thinking about ripping out the carpet in my home so I am considering all options. I am sure there is cement flooring under the carpet. Your floors look real.nice, Good Job ! 👍 🌈👵🏻
I'd do this in my future home. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Nice looks real good and the new occupants can always do a light sanding and re-poly but I like the scuffs cause it makes it look rustic.
This is a great Idea and I am strongly considering this as I have just bought a house. And I even work at a flooring store, but hey stuffs expensive. Thanks for the details of your experiences. Cheers.
The look is definitely better than the home depot cheap plank. Plus finishing variety are custom and endless.
Your daughter has such an adorable smile:)
I love the nails, it looks like old farmhouse floor, I just wish it was cheaper to do. 😂Looks and held up great!
I love your videos I love to learn wonderful job. I also love that you put scripture at the end I love that fact thank you so much
Hi SSL dad; love the industry and ingenuity that you exhibit. Any update on what the new owners have done with these floors? Blessings to you.
I think it looks wonderful. Let those who gripe. Try to do it. They can't.😊
I sleep on the floor, as do entire cultures. No shame.
Nice floors!
that is a really good idea and a good job. Just a bit of advice though... instead of paying for furniture protectors go to home depot and grab some free carpet samples.
great idea, thanks!
what do you mean, sorry I'm stuck?
I like the look of the plywood. It’s a great solution for people on a tight budget and need to floor a room. The only problem I would have with it is that it’s not a hardwood and is going to be more susceptible to dings and scratches.
Well done... gave me great idea for basement
She is so cute, almost makes me want to have rug-rats. awwww.
Superb!
The biggest concern for me was
the boards coming up overtime or separation between the boards from time expansion and contraction.
