      @@JaiHylRubis Yes in my younger and more able days I used to love doing the odd pieces of joinery and surprised myself on how well I could make things like rail and post doors blanket boxes out of recycled timber but my arthritis has caught up with me and my large if not basic machinery now lies idle and I hope one day my son will use them when he gets the time as he is quite good at picking things up. I drool over some of the Blacktail machinery and workshop and it must have cost a fortune but it is worth it in the end eh to know that you did this by yourself? Plus the fact that you know that the things you have made are perfect and not just thrown together like some factory made furniture.

      Some of them had sawmarks that came out after getting some varnish on it, but honestly in some cases these look quite good.

    Don't think of being a content creator as a bad thing. You're doing something you have a passion for, teaching people by showing people your mistakes so they can learn from them and creating beautiful products while doing so. We as viewers are lucky to have such content for free on TH-cam and you seem to enjoy the process too. It's not something to be ashamed of, it's something to be proud of.

      @Chris____. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@sofreshsogreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D

    To answer the question "Would or wouldn't wood?" - I would go with "Wouldn't" for a kitchen island. What you did in this video is a masterpiece but even if it was a regular piece it would really need to be pampered if it was to be preserved. Table, bar top or pretty much anything except for a cooking surface, especially warm kitchen - this is the way to go for style points.

    • @JayDee-xj9lu
      @JayDee-xj9lu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have the liquid glass as a finish and you don't really need to pamper it. It is so tough. You can always sand it and refinish it. If you have a granite top and place something hot or oily on it, it could be ruined for life. I've seen a $20,000 granite top and it had a large circle permanently etched into it.

      Having heat insulated place mats for kitchen utensils when cooking to preserve the wood. But yeah, for a kitchen to be function over form that wood would mark or dent very easily. At $15000 I'd have to have a cheap counter top to use instead.

      @@iknowme483 You ever think that maybe it's possible the client wanted the epoxy?
      You'd have to be a pretty snobbish and or/ independently wealthy woodworker to tell a client their idea was stupid and you weren't going to do it simply because you don't like the way it looks...
      Oh, BTW, what did you make on your last commissioned sale?

    i was skeptical of the big "hole" in the wood originally, but simply filling it in with black works well, especially since the wood is already so dark after getting treated! wonderful craftsmanship!

    Wood is it was a smaller counter. It would never be as beautiful as what you just did. Thank you for sharing your talent and patience.
