Today I installed a back up camera, but I tapped into the back up light hot and ground wires INSIDE the car just behind the rear piece of carpeting. You just cut back the factory tape, fine the light green wire and black wire, connect your back up camera red and black, seal it all up, and you're done. It was handy, easy to access, and it's inside the car where the splice isn't subject to rain, sleet, snow, and ice.
Ordered the same one. Same camera to from amazon. Thank you for doing step by step and also calling out the wires. Was gonna pay someone to do this but u made it look easy so hopefully I can do it myself..
Good video thank you! One thing of note, you don't have to drill through the back to get the wire from the rear into the cabin. Over to the lower right there is already a grommet that can be moved a bit and push the wire through there.
Y’all motivated me to tackle this project on my own! I literally just ordered the listed install kit and rp5-gm11 from amazon. Backup camera is similar. Hopefully my 2013 vette will be ready to rock by Saturday evening. Thank y’all!!!
This video is really helpful, I'm getting ready to do an install next week. Unfortunately, Crutchfield doesn't offer the pre-wiring service for the C6 anymore but I think I figured it out with their wiring docs, wish me luck! Also, love the TX emblems, I'm going to have to find some for myself.
That sucks to hear that Crutchfield doesn't offer pre-wiring for the C6. Last summer they pre-wired my Alpine Double Din for my 2002 Lexus ES300 and saved me alot of hours and frustration ! I plan on buying a 2008-09 C6 next September and was hoping Crutchfield was still doing this.
I see that you must of purchased the PAC RP5-GM11 Radio Replacement Interface prewired from Crutchfield. Maybe that was the better way to go. I will soon find out. I haven't installed my Kenwood yet in my C6 but I purchased all including the Interface unwired. I have installed plenty of Receivers and 2 were Kenwoods like the one I plan on installing in my C6 in the last year and years back but none needed a Interface so when I finally get to mine hopefully I don't run into any problems. I was hoping to see a video where someone wired up a Kenwood Double Din to the RP5-GM11 Interface to make things a little easier for myself but I haven't seen a video for a C6 as of yet as to the wiring involved. If someone reading here knows of one surely point me in the right direction. I should be getting ready to do mine within a month or so. You guys did a nice job on your video I should also mention.
@ffas23 Did you install your head unit into your c6 yet? Did you use the PAC module? The c6 I was planning on doing a radio install has the basic radio and no steering controls so I'm trying to decide if it is needed? I can figure out the rest of the wiring just no sure I would need to put a PAC unit because the car has really no features on it, just an 05 base model car.
@@fuzzymoto896 Sorry I just saw your reply today. Yes I did the job back in May of 2020 and it came out great. I don't have Factory Radio steering control in my steering wheel either on my 2006 Base Coupe C6 either but installed the Pac RP5-GM11 Interface and wired it myself and it works great. Previously my car had the Factory GPS Radio installed. Plenty of people on the Corvette Forum recommended using the Pac. During the month of May I also installed another Kenwood Double Din in my C5 Base Coupe also but used a different brand of Interface. That job was a lot more work being the C5 isn't really made to fit a 7" Double Din Receiver in it with the stock dash. Had to get a cluster made to except the Double Din and cut some rivets to take out some aluminum shelfs in that car. That one also came out great. Its too bad I can't post any photos here.
1. The side brackets from the Metra kit are on backwards. 2. You also don't need to drill a hole for the camera. The taillight wires already go through the back bumper through a rubber grommet. 3. You can tap into the reverse light/ground from inside the car when you use that grommet.
If you’re using a chime retention harness, it already has a reverse trigger wire. Just use the yellow rca with built in red wire to get power at headunit from reverse trigger wire. No need to hack into the reverse light wiring.
I've seen others install head units in the c6 and have a hissing sound through the speakers and the volume doesn't turn up with the same scale as stock...like it's loud at a low volume number already. Did you guys experience anything like that? The guy I watched did not use the pac interface and I'm hoping that is the difference. Installing an Alpine ilx-w650 soon on my 2010 z06. Thanks for the video.
BSfunk44 we didn’t have any problems when we changed it. We had a hissing sound with the stock radio which is part of the reason we changed it. Sometimes the hissing can be caused by a dirty or loose ground wire on the factory amp.
Very good video. I just bought the 906s... how do you like it? Also would you buy the Natika camera again? Will be installing into my 09 JSB next week. Thanks for the post.
Very good video. I have the exact color C6 and installing the exact same things you did plus the satellite radio module. I watched several videos of the install and yours was the most straight forward and informative that I saw. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is removing the A-pillar and routing the microphone behind the steering wheel to the console. Good job!
I like the radio. I think it was a really good value. I haven’t had any issues with the natika camera. I like the video quality and I would buy it again. Thanks for the positive review!
With the PAC int we interface is it necessary to use the Kenwood antenna, or is the a way to use the factory mic? I just installed a Kenwood in my C6 put the car isn't picking up my voice but I can hear promts and commands from siri .

Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to try to help others who are thinking about doing this . Very helpful. Thank you again!

@@stephendibari5010 I just bought a new Kenwood from Crutchfield. Full wiring harness prewired is available.
@@JimKelso-zc4wq nice 👍. I’ve moved onto saving for a C7 since I posted this so won’t be having to remove the factory radio.

How did the satellite radio work with receiver mounted in the dash like that? Thank you.
How did you connect the backup camera, did you use the reverse/white wire, because there is a way to turn on the camera without going to reverse also.
Where can I get this done i live in Nashville I have 2011 GS

You need to add a ground loop isolator to remove any hissing or whine.
Why didn't you connect the backup camera power inside the trunk space? Would seem like it would be easier to get to.
Did you have any issues with your chimes volume being loud after your install? If so how did you adjust?

What did you do with the GPS antenna?

Richard Hinkson after taking out the stock head unit, I put the gps antenna on top of the ac vents.

I’m pretty sure you have to use the Kenwood mic. My factory mic did not work with the aftermarket radio.
