Waiting to apply product after wash day CHANGED THE GAME for me. I wrap my hair with a t-shirt for about 5 minutes, then spray it with aloe vera juice to close the cuticle and put it into 2 loose buns with ribbon ties (my hair isn’t long enough for 1 bun). Then I’ll come back and apply my moisturizer after about an hour and a half. I have not woken up to a damn-it’s-still-wet twist out since I started doing this. And bonus: This method uses less product.
It does use less product! And, I agree -- I prefer to wait just a couple of hours, rather than overnight (then my hair gets too close to being fully, 100% dry). It's so helpful for when I need my hair to dry quickly.
I cosign using an old cotton t-shirt first to blot my hair after washing, and even better are the microfiber towels that I buy either at Home Depot or an auto parts store. I also twist or air dry to 80-90% (after spraying aloe vera juice)then do the leave ins.
The tip about making sure your hair isn't rubbing against your clothes is so vital. I couldn't make it past shoulder length until I twisted my longer lengths up and away when the fabric would touch them, now I'm grazing armpit length:). I love how your videos are so unique, I'm definitely going to use the tap not rub edges one, and the 90% dry before apply - products seem to sit on top of my hair if I apply it straight after.
I’ve let my hair dry in braids without products in the past, and my hair was so dryyyy and matted, even though I had fully detangled in the shower. My hair prefers to have product in it, even though it would dry faster without.
Proof, yet again, that we have to get to know our own heads of hair to really see what works and what doesn't! My hair prefers product in it too, but this method still works for me if I really need it to dry quickly.
Celia Ford last time I wash my hair, I let it dry without product. It was horrible but I learned a lesson: curls and potions flex seed gel is a great detangler. 😲😲😉😉😁😁
Hey beautiful! Love all your length retention hacks. I apply 2 of your tips. Flip over satin bonnet..... Allow your hair to dry 90% before adding product. Here's 1 tip that I recently stop doing to my hair. Twirling my ends around my finger. It causes breakage :( Big thumbs up and I shared :)
Ah -- see, I never really did the twirling of the ends, because it never really did anything for my hair, anyway, haha. That's actually how I started setting my ends on the satin rollers, instead. It was a more effective way to get my ends smoother and neater, but then I realized how important it was in helping to reduce SSKs!
So happy I’m subscribed to your channel. You have such amazingly relevant content. I was just fussing at myself regarding my edges and not getting hair length.
One thing I learned, always have a plan B style. If your twists are still wet, put them in a twisted bun or wear a head wrap. Do not let your hair out in it's damp state, it saves you a lot of tangles.
Omg I ALWAYS wondered the same thing!!! I’ve been doing the exact same thing, wearing the bonnet inside out.. my bonnet slides off so I’ve been rolling the perimeter once it twice to make it sit closer to my head...
I've resorted to using hair clips over bobbypins. I can't deal with how they're always everywhere AND nowhere at the same time, smh. EVERY ONE of these were brilliant ideas tho', a couple of which I do subconsciously without considering the details of WHY I choose to do it that way. Those last two time-savers tho'! *Yet ANOTHER* video that lives up to your track record of intelligently-delivered amazing information. Plus, the bonuses of some of my favorite types of moments from you .... "betraying me" & "passing away"..ROFL 11:34 (Amistad-referenced Motherland accent) Giveth the strands FREEEEE!
all of these tips were great. the one that has me stumped is about the elastics/hair ties... my hair isn't long enough yet to wrap around but what do you guys think about those puff cuffs? have you seen them? T's critique on the elastic make sense so I wonder if these puff cuffs could be a solution? Perhaps it needs a good nappyjojoba review
The ones with little hooks on each end? Those ones broke my hair off. If I can't use my own hair for whatever reason, I use a knee-high stocking. I can tie it around my head like a headband, and then I'm able to manage the tension while creating my puff/ponytail. Feels gentler than an elastic, too!
Sade Adams Hi Sadie! I actually flip the elastic band all the way around so that only the fabric touches my edges. I use a really big bonnet so that there's still enough room for rollers or just for my hair to be loose in the bonnet.
Sade Adams I had the same problem. But then I started using a scarf to tie down my edges and placing a bonnet over top and that has helped a lot. Bonnets tend to slide back leaving your edges to rub against your pillows. And the elastic can be harmful to edges
I bought a bonnet that has string ties instead of elastic. That has stopped a lot of the tension against my edges. I think I found it at a beauty supply shop.
This, and you can secure the bonnet yourself so that it doesn't fall off but doesn't graze away at your sides. I'd order my bonnets online, since it's usually satin not silk in store.
My hair is low-porosity, but it is super dense so I do find that it takes more than 24hrs to dry. Do you still recommend holding off on product for a while on low-porosity hair?
Great tips T! I also take time layering my products. Wait for hair to be damp from t-shirt/air drying, add leave-in, wait a few hours (or overnight) add oil/butter/thick cream. But I do that because I am LOW porosity and it takes an age for my dense hair to dry and for products to soak into my hair. Hmmm... I thought high porosity hair dried quick! I do sleep with hair uncovered some wash days, but in winter with the dry air or the heating on, it really makes my hair feel brittle come morning. My solution is to wear a cotton scarf over a silk one. The silk prevents friction while the cotton wicks away moisture (but is slowed down by the silk). Also it keeps my head warm. I've never owned a bonnet. I didn't know they weren't silk/satin/smooth on the inside - that makes NO sense!
My hair is normal to high porosity, and I think it takes forever to dry simply because it's able to take on so much water, from washing. All of that H2O takes its sweet time, evaporating, haha. Glad you liked the video! xx
See T, this is why we need to be friends!! I wonder the same thing!! Where do the BOBBY/HAIR PINS GO?!?!?! I mean I would a row of bobby pins at the beauty supply, in two days I can not find ONE! T, that is the reason why I subscribe to your channel, because you always give a different perspective instead of your repeating the same tips that another youtuber said. Keep doing you!! I LOVE IT!!
Chalsey Wilder So cool you use Rosewater as well!! I use a mixture of Aloe Vera juice and Rosewater with a few essential oils for a leave in...I'm nervous about the honey...is it sticky? How much do you use?
What people fail to realize is that you dont need to kill your edges with a hard bristle brush. You just need to use a small amount of product and wrap a scarf around your head for like 5 minutes. I cringe when i see girls use a giant glob of gel and brush the edges hard as fuck like relax. Lol sometimes i think people just hate their natural kinky hair and want it to look like 3c hair
Bobbie pins are with the missing socks. Gnomes take them.
Tracy LOLOL
Bobbie pins are a magical objects just like socks. No one really knows what mystical dimension they truly reside.
Yes! I always turn my bonnets inside out. I had the same thought as you about the smoother side of the bonnet being against my hair.
val287 same. That never made sense to me
Bobbie pins + tupperware + socks all go to their *secret places*. Love your channel! Thank you!
Hahaha, "secret places" is right!

Geri Miller great tip! I was on my way to Home Depot today anyway!

nappyheadedjojoba Forever and a day, and what fun it is 😂

The bobby pins dipped out with the socks lol
For real, though!

This is more valuable information from compared to most naturals with all the views ❤
Amen 👊🖤 Enjoyed your hacks, they all made sense. Great seeing you as always. 😊
You are so right about the bonnet. I use mine inside out as well.
Great Tips! You look like a sun gawd you got the glow.
I got the grease, more likely, haha. Thanks!

Great! Great! Hacks , will def be implementing these!! Thanks ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
Your eye makeup!!! 😍
Thanks for all your tips. Some of them I actually already do. You look beautiful. I love You jewerly.
Had to become part of that #notificationgang...you always keep it real and informative
love that satin bonnet hack, sis
Love your tips and I also watched the ads so you can make that money!
Awww, thanks babe! You don't have to do that, but it's very considerate and sweet!
Can you make a video about how exactly you put your hair up by wrapping it around itself? I've tried but failed many time to get it to stay up.
I also twist the ends of my hair!! It is indeed great for takedown.
Wow! Thought I was the only one who uses my bonnets inside out. Never understood why the smooth side is on the outside.
BABY! YOUR ARMS LOOK AMAZING and thanks for the tips lol
Great tios, T. Thanks. I implore many of them, so I believe I am in wonderful company.
Can you do an update on the eyebrows, thinking about doing it this year....
The bonnet thing. I figured that out a while back. I thought it was weird for me to do that lol but great minds think alike
Great tips T! TFS!

My bonnet took my edges out. 180 degrees. Two inches in. 😭😂 Maybe bc I get them from Walmart? I don’t know where else to get them.

Lol. I feel the same way. I buy so many hair and bobby pins, and l can't never find them.
Me too lol inside out bonnets

Haha, thanks love!
Putting honey in my water bottle with water and rose water helps me. Honey doesn't dry my hair out like glycerin.
Chalsey Wilder So cool you use Rosewater as well!! I use a mixture of Aloe Vera juice and Rosewater with a few essential oils for a leave in...I'm nervous about the honey...is it sticky? How much do you use?
J F just a table spoon and a half. And it's not sticky once you shake everything up.
J F I also should mention I'm using agave nectar time around. Same amount
Chalsey Wilder How do you like the agave compared to the honey?
Kai D I haven't ran out of the first spray with honey yet lol. I'll let You know when I try it.
Thanks Jojaba!
Is that your real name?
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE I WATCH ALL YOUR VIDS BUT I WAS NOT SUBSCRIBED?!?! I FEEL AWFUL! #newoldsubie LOL
Last week I found 10+ loose bobby pins (from a pack I got as part of an xmas gift) in a small bin that is for our random dog-related items... -__-
I subbed because you're so beautiful lol
Thank you!
