I would like to thank you too. I did the sequence to put my CX 5 in maintenance mode so I could change my rear rotors and as I was working on the first side I heard a bunch of chattering coming from the front. I don't know why or what it was but when I went to put it out of maintenance mode the car was completely dead! The only light in the dash was the airbag light. I checked and only had 3.6 volts in the battery and it would not take a charge. I let it set overnight with the battery unhooked and when I hooked up the battery it somehow returned to 12.6 volts. The car actually started, so I shut it off and followed your sequence and it worked! The only thing different was that I had to push the start button three times. Thank you so much for your help! You are a lifesaver!

Great video. Thanks. Just to clarify. I'm holding the accelerator the entire time all the down? Also, to retract the piston, is it possible to do this without the special tool? I have the general tool which pushes back normal pistons (front caliper pistons), but I don't have the one that allows me to turn the rear piston CCW. Thanks. (Just read below, c-clamp will work)

How f-Ed up is this to go through though ? This secret “trick/protocol/procedure” I think is for the benefit of dealerships - “Oh, it’s waaaaaay to hard for you, the owner to do, bring it in so we can charge you $450.”

    • @__dm__

well you need a procedure to disable the e-brake motors (for electronic e-brakes you always need to disable the motors so you can push the pistons back in). a lot of cars require something to plug in to the OBD-2 port (but even this is cracked in many cases). mazda is actually one of the better ones that let you do the service mode without a special tool.

I also have the ''switch operation not accepted, have the vehicle inspected''. The PB switch basically does not work anymore and you can't exit the service mode (or set \ release the EPB). What was the fix?

Replying to my own comment... Went to the dealership, service director sat in the car and tried many times to put the car out of service mode (while getting the ''switch operation not accepted'' message). He eventually succeeded and said one needs to be persistent and repeatedly try to put it out of service mode until successful. I did not count but it took several attempts.
