I watched your walkthrough video as well. Thank you for your very detailed explanation of your thought process, as well as cost information. This was very helpful.
Thank you so much for having a start to finish and advice and pricing on stuff.,I was hoping to find a video such as this .. thanks so so much. Enjoy your media room and have a great day
@justine thanks!! When I created this I planned it for six months and no one else had a time lapse or full recording showing what they did, step by step.
Your cousins are so amazing. This video is so informative, that its hard to explain. Thank you very much for producing this. Its timeless to watch professionals work, coz there so much wisdom in it.
Hey buddy I truly appreciate this video because I’m trying to figure out how to build my home theater in my guest room. I was wondering about building a riser for my theatre seating and this helped. Sorry about all the messed up comments from others but I love it!
Good job. All the comments are interesting too. Good advice to help whoever else might try to tackle how tedious this job is. The only comment I have other than congratulations is your projector was exposed to a lot of insulation, dust and saw dust leaving it hung during construction.
I was thinking the same, I was not expecting this. I really can't see how you could justify that much work for watching films, I mean, who watches enough films and television to make this cost effective? It seems to be a huge undertaking for something that would be used a few times a year.
Thats a stunning building layout my friend, enjoyed every minute watching you and your team building it. But now we want to see you final setup with the speakers and everything ;) you got my sub my friend.
I placed vinyl on the 2" thick plywood which contains soundproof installation. I also put two vents at the front and two on the back to absorb sound. From all my tests.. there is no vibration or reflective sounds coming from the platform.
Right at the beginning, i have to say that it was really good choice to choose Two Steps From Hell as music..and i have only watched first 4,5min... ;D
plywood is run the wrong way. Never run it with the floor joists, it will bow between them. Even though it is oriental strand board the wood chips are placed a certain way. should be using 3/4" T&G. great theater room
You are most welcome! I didn't really see anyone on here that had a full time lapse showing everything that was done in the buildout and I really just wanted to give everyone a view of what I did and how I did it step by step.
I was reading the comments and wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your heart condition. I will pray for you. Fist rule of construction is NEVER 25:00 + use final floor for a work table! I hope it's not all scratched up . I hope you enjoy your room thanks for the video
Nice! Two things, though. I found myself skipping ahead to watch it in 3 minutes. HAHAHA. Also, why such a great room, projector, and screen --- and you ended up with $2000 of Sony speakers? Come on, man! Rob a bank and complete that room with "at least" some B&Ws. (We are getting ready to close on a house that's going to give me a lot more theatre space and I'll be upgrading away from my B&W 5.1 system. Can't wait. Dual Klipsch SPL-150SWs here I come!!!)
Just wondering why you raised the first row of seats? If they had been left on the floor - less work and then the second row would not have had to be raised so high. Or was it to put insulation under the front row as well?. Just asking as I am hoping to start a similar project this year. Thank you.
Curious how you like the recliners now 2.5 years post-video? I'm considering buying the same (I believe they are the Larson Leather Power Reclining Home Theater, correct?). Would you recommend?
I thought it looked really nice.. it's actually vinyl flooring. The platform is 2" plywood with sound proof insulation. I don't think there will be any vibrations, ect. I was going to do laminate or real wood flooring, but I thought that might be too noisy and a laminate floor has to float, so it would have needed sides which could have been a trip hazard. The vinyl makes it look really good. I could have carpeted.. but again. It just felt more pro doing it this way
Awesome video my friend, especially the music. The music sounded like a Soundtrack from the Games Of Throne. The Finish Product Was Breathtaking At Best.
Great video! I smoked some bud, watched this video, and laughed my ass off. I especially like the parts when the old crone in the black dress comes into the room to bitch out the crew. Suggestion: do a part two ... same video but slow motion and in reverse.
Awesome job but I have one question did you ever consider putting the subwoofers underneath the platform? It would give it a little more explosions I was going to do that to my theater but I have tenants probably would drive them
Keep your eyes peeled for deals. I purchased my laminate flooring on sale from $2.99 psf down to .99 cents psf. My power recliner I only purchased one because I was keeping the old sectional was on clearance at Costco from $935 down to $175.
Hey Mark, Yes; I wanted to make sure that I cut down on any sound vibrations from the speakers and eventually when I install the Buttkickers in the chairs. I did a ton of research on this prior to building and everyone that I came across that built something like this.. they put in the insulation and vents to help carry the sound and any vibrations.
That answers my question...looks like a lot of excess materials used though.. Why not float and isolated the riser..one thing layer of sound deadening material under finished floor. .looks awesome though. Hope you enjoy it for many many years.
Waite a minute here look at all those 2x4's no no. Why did you do it like that. The front part was right you you should of made it longer so you could use it to build a 2x12 platform on top in the back. So you did not have to use so much wood. But none the less it looks awesome.
The insulation helps stop vibrations, being that it is sound proof I found that it helps with sounds a lot better and then providing the vents helps the sound and pressure flow through the platform.
Nice work, looks great! I plan on doing something similar for my home theater. How wide are those steps? I'm trying to squeeze 4 seats in between my steps like you did with your first row but that would mean they would only be 18" wide on both sides. Not sure if that's doable or just sacrafice the 4th seat for wider steps... Let me know what you think.
I hope you gave your one cousin in the video that clearly was the brains and the Braun of the operation a larger cut. The female cousin was on point and ready to go as instructed. However the cousin in the black shirt is the quintessential slacker. How do you call out a lazy performance upon ask, replay his actions of a days work in high speed. Lol
What brand of soundproof insulation did you use, and what was that approximate cost? I have a virtually identical room and would love this exact setup. Probably going to have an issue in building the riser though as I am not handy at all.
I didn't help them build it.. I helped with the design. For an experienced builder, it wouldn't be hard to build at all.. for a newbie.. I'd put it at about a 6.
Can I adopt Steven and Marie so they would be my family? I am disabled and never got to build my HT of my dreams as I am forced to be in bed up to 23 hours a day. Love the video. Love the music. Looks fantastic. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Incredible!!! Just got those same seats from Sam's Club!!
Funny how about 25 years ago 'Home Theater' meant a 32" TV and surround sound speakers!

Wow man that’s awesome. I wish I had a room in my house big enough to do this. 😂😂😂
McLovin! Great job
Great looking space. Surprised you opted for a reflective floor rather than carpet for sound absorption.
I placed vinyl on the 2" thick plywood which contains soundproof installation. I also put two vents at the front and two on the back to absorb sound. From all my tests.. there is no vibration or reflective sounds coming from the platform.
Michael Bowes can’t wait to see the final finishes 👍👍

What do you put on the hard board before you put the vinyl in? It looks like paint, but I guess that isn't it
J Rivera There’s a reason why you won’t find a cinema with hard floors despite them being easier to clean.
We need a list of this sound track.

The insulation helps stop vibrations, being that it is sound proof I found that it helps with sounds a lot better and then providing the vents helps the sound and pressure flow through the platform.
