  • One in five New Zealanders will develop diabetes. Paul and Boxer should have died of type 2 diabetes years ago… but against the odds they’ve transformed their lives. With humour and optimism they confront the challenges of living with a debilitating disease.

    I applaud these men 👏 👏 👏
Giving up the sugary sodas is hardest for me (yikes ).
I gave up meat (except fish) fast food, cigarettes, chips but quitting the soft drinks is the hardest. For me anyway.
It DOES take discipline + dedication!

Just adopt a high fat, low carb diet combined with time restricted eating and intermittent fasting to solve your diabetic issues. It is not hard. it is simple. In three months, my AIC went from 7.3 to 4.5. For the past year, I have had an AIC of 4.9.

This. I'm in the US so I don't really have access to medical care unless it's an emergency room and I think I'm gonna die, but I was having headaches and wanted to lose some weight also, went on the keto diet and the headaches are gone and I'm losing weight. I'd really like to know what my A1C is, but again, since I live in the US I won't really be able to get that information without spending a LOT of money, so I just assume that whatever it was 2 months ago, it's better now.

Vegetable based boil-up is awesome, all veges, no meat. Everything from the garden and adding wild greens, its really good for you.
Adding smoked pork bones without the fat would be a good way to get the classic boil-up flavor. Smoked wild pork is the leanest, and has the strongest flavor, and you don't need much.
Our tupuna used meat as a garnish, fruit and veges made up the bulk of their diet.

If Paul and Boxer are still that huge, they're not following a good diet at all. My boss does this. He injects insulin for every meal but the meals he eats are full of starches. It's like driving with one foot on the brake and one foot on the gas.

Wow that's horrible, sorry to hear that I been a T1D for 23 years and so far so good. I feel that its not particularly the patients fault but the poor guidelines given to them. Carbohydrate are diabetics worst enemy they will cause a lot of harm specially at high amounts

Was Boxer named after the courageous, hardworking draft horse from Orwell’s Animal Farm or you know, after tough, spirited boxers like Muhammad Ali? Either way, very fitting name for a wonderful gent!
