KETO/very-low carb put me right! I was pre-diabetic, 69 years old, many symptoms creeping up. Now I'm 35 again, 27kg lighter, and my symptoms have all gone, and my blood results normal once again. LOVE eating keto-style: steak and eggs and bacon, fish fried in butter, marrowbones for soup, cream in my coffee, and a bit of veg as a garnish. NO fruit (nature's candy! evil stuff). And I seem to eat a lot less as steak and butter fills me up... so the expense of organic steak is offset by no junk food, no extra snacks etc. Win win!

Thank you so much for making this film. I'm 54 and was diagnosed with Type 2 3 months ago. I haven't taken it seriously until a few weeks ago, when I started doing research. Last year I went through menopause and got a sweet tooth due to hormone imbalance. The doctor told me this was quite common and as a result many women get Diabetes after menopause. Why isn't the info stressed more? It's like a conspiracy or silence. Your film has inspired me to go on the low carb diet I've read so much about. I'm still young. I have years of life yet, and I don't want to spend it as an invalid. Thanks again. :)
What a lovely documentary. My husband has been diagnosed with type 2, looks like fixing husband is about to start. Great description of type 2 from the new GP. Thank you x
Bill gets it!! They went to the right guy. I have been managing my T2D for 24 years since diagnosed at age 40 with a very low carb diet. It saved my future.
A touching documentary that perfectly captured the frustrations of people in this situation. It was also infuriating to hear the medical professionals lack of knowledge and ignorance about T2D and its reversability. This was made in 2016/17 (?) but in 2010 my cardioligist reversed my pre-T2D by getting me educated and having me follow a ketogenic diet. It's been known for decades that a LCHF diet or a full ketogenic diet can reverse many of the "modern" diseases caused by too much sugar and ultra-processed carbs. Hopefully this will change but it needs to happen sooner or more people are destined for a miserable middle and late age and early death from lack of decent advice.
@@sunbeam9222 Ermm no you have that the opposite way around. Anyone depriving their body of carbs is putting stress on the metabolism. This is a frankly beautiful piece of filmmaking. Geoff what a journey, and a fantastic public speaker. Your boys , well what can I say, the relationship you have with them is amazing and it was good to see the rough with the smooth, you can see those boys love you.
I just bought Dr Mosley's book 800 diet, and then this doco came up on my feed.....just what I needed. Great that they got to speak to so many in the medical fields and have helped educate so many people. I love the fact that they are just an ordinary family, who love each other deeply, even through all the fights and arguments.....love in action. The Scottish scenery and Auld Lang Syne choked me up. Well done, boys and Dad, I'm sure it has cemented your relationship ❤ God Bless you all. 🙏
Great news about the type 2 diabetes - a lot of time, hard work & willpower obviously went into making Fixing Dad and I think you did an excellent job, especially Geoff, what a star! I also think that Whitington Brothers should do more documentries!

Very impressive video! Well done and congratulations to Dad! And how wonderful the Son’s! Powerful message on taking our health more into our own hands.
Where’s the love button? I choked back tears towards the end. What a film, what a story, what a message. One comment though. The doctors lay the blame on the politicians. Yes, it’s their duty also to act to turn back the epidemic. But the medical establishment can do much, much more.
I agree. Though they play a significant part in managing through medication, the medical training should have nutrition as a required module that every medical student should pass! Minimizing on nutrition and giving more emphasis on drugs like metformin and others is a very unbalanced way to train these professionals
Sadly prescribed medications to lower cholesterol; which is produced naturally by the self-healing, self-regulatory, Intelligently Designed human body - according to its need - more so in the elderly; contributes to the possibility of developing diabetes. In men increasing the possibility 40%, and in women more than 70%.
There are so many words that can not be said. I saw this many moons ago, felt it, understood it. Yet did not , or was not able to help my own dad to overcome a totally preventable issue. Dispite the outcome, it is good to see the input youve had, to just make him ok. Hi five! The goal of just being human is a thing.
It's really nice seeing at least some semblance of first-world health care in the UK. Both of my parents died in their early 60s, largely due to lack of medical care especially preventative screening. I'm watching my boss follow the standard "progression" of diabetes, and he's got decent medical care now but it's only because he's old enough to have Medicare which starts at age 65. I've talked and talked with the guy about his diet and how he can halt the progress of his type II diabetes and even reverse it, and he simply won't change his diet. Everyone I know (here in the US) who has diabetes or is overweight or both, will get worse and worse and die too young, before they'll change their diets. I watched another docu about the NHS and the fight against diabetes and there was a lady with a tent set up, offering free screenings, it was amazing - we used to have those long ago, here in the US. They'd set up in the park or most of the time at a library or Senior Center and screen for diabetes, all for free. As the US gets worse and worse, things like that are only distant memory. It will cost me a lot of money to just get tested for A1C which is the test to see if you're diabetic or pre-diabetic. Carry on, and don't let anyone interfere with the NHS!
I live in Oklahoma and on Social security now with type 2 and trying to fight it myself. This is what I'm looking for. Real people fighting the real fight with real hope!! Even a nutritionist told me to take metformin and live it up. Her comment "You don't expect to live forever do you" the advice from a "professional" here. So many conflicting stories here on TH-cam, plant based only, keto only, even keto plant based only, we are right, you are wrong camps everywhere, medical community is ignorant on the subject in many cases it seems. Thanks for your sharing.
Wow I’ve just come across this after being told I have Type 2 today you were super inspirational in this film i will use it as my motivation thank you xx
Started off having a quick look at GP's recommendation - 1 or 2 minutes, I thought. 1 hour and 4 minutes later of the best, informative , spirited and enriching documentary I was left wanting more...
Thanks for this film. It's all true. I have diabetes type 2, injecting insulin now. Lifestyle has been a mess. Everything you say is true its what you eat I know I've proved it to myself. x
You boys did good. You did really good by your old man. If you have children, they noticed. Guaranteed you left an impression on their minds. And decreased your own chances of growing old and being left behind.
Loved your film. Lost my dad last summer. You can't turn back time. Noticed my dad ageing never thought we would be without him now. He was always active looking after mum who has two new knees. Why did we not see what was happening now I know we could have helped him. Turns out he was on prescription drugs he had no need being on you know the kind doctors put old people on statins, aspirin, anti acids and flu jabs. He had been a smoker in the past and so when he started feeling not well probably thought the worst, as we are all repeated told that one in three will get cancer. Slowly, eating less because the anti acids weren't working, which of course don't work and the doctors know best situation he became so deficient he had a stroke and then taken into hospital where they well and truly finished him off.
Debra Dooly so sorry about your dad. Thank you for sharing this with us and do stay in touch. it's about you and the healthy continuation of your family now. fixingdad@gmail.com Best wishes FD xx
Medications to die for... The third leading cause of death - following heart disease and cancer - currently being prescription medications (half of these deaths, after taking them as prescribed) 😥

Great and enjoyed watching this greatly. Awesome relationship between father and sons. "Dad" made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Really inspiring.
My dad died in 2020 before I realized he needed us to help save him. He was sad after my mom passed. Grief and loneliness led to bad decisions, not to mention they’re just not good for your health. I miss him and I wish he was still here.
Such a Inspiring film I have not got type2 but am overweight.... has kicked my bum even harder to lose the excess 11lbs so far And Dr Bill Warrilow is a excellent docter! I live local to charing...
I think what saved their dad most was they became a support to him and walked with him through this journey to health. So many people die everyday cause of giving up on themselves and not having belief and confidence in themselves that they can be and do better. He proba la could not have recovered in this way without the love and support of tmhis sons pushing him to be better. Having loving people in your life can make such a big difference in how you choose to live.
What an inspiring and motivating film, can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before. Thanks to re-reading Michael Mosley’s 8 week sugar diet book where he shares this story.
Any chance for a follow up? Or, is it known how much dad's vital statistics improved; blood pressure, pancreas making insulin again, etc.? Even the liver can undergo dramatic healing after major changes in lifestyle.
Sobering look at what's really important in life; selling your soul for some corporation seems like a waste....unless you can afford to retire before you are burned out.
Wow what an Amazing Film,so thought provoking, Brilliant,Beautiful story of the Love of Their Father. They cared so much to help their Dad make Vital Life changing decisions, that at times brought fear and helplessness into all of their lives. To see the way that Geoff made this changes was was really an honour to watch. I got goosebumps watching Geoff getting to the finish line after his huge race for Diabetes. The best thing of all was Seeing Geoff speaking out in front of an Audience of People, getting this Vital message out. What a champion you are Geoff.. to his Sons,Thankyou for getting this Important message out,and for Caring and Loving your Dear Dad ❤️
I reversed my diabetes though diet. Its pretty simple don't eat the sugar or carbs, and you won't need the insulin. I eat meats, salads, berries, yogurt, eggs, mushrooms green fruits like cucumbers and peppers. But more important what I don't eat, Sugary fruits, candy, carbs (rice, bread, pasta, potatoes), bad oils (omega 6's) seed oil and veg oil, peanut oil, margarine. My tip is Eat lots of good fats (avacado, oilve oil, nuts, butter, fatty meats like bacon, or steak) because fat makes you feel full and satisfied. If your starving and hungry all the time your diet won't last very long. Don't count calories, Just eat protein and fats, and some veggies.
bit concerned here. It is very well documented that type 2 diabetes is a self-made disease. 99% of type 2 diabetics can reverse and get rid of the illness by changing lifestyle, including activities/exercise, and diet. I am a little surprised that the message doesn't seem to be getting through to mainstream. Type 2 is a 'cause and effect' illness. you cause it. Thoroughly enjoyed the film, very uplifting. Good job guys.
That maybe because current advice does not recommend limiting carbs upping healthy fats, Davidm to reverse type 2 and reduce/eliminate the need for (expensive for the NHS) medication. Once this changes, we may begin to see our population's health start to improve and pre-diabetes/type 2 diabetes figures decline.
Diet is the most important factor in regaining health; regular mild-moderate exercise and strength training helps, especially for autophagy but it's not necessary, T2D can be cured with diet and fasting alone. Those who are obese should concentrate on weight loss through diet before they start putting stress on their joints and organs with heavy exercise. At least... that's my personal take.
About Dad's refusal to cook - Why can't you just teach Marilyn how to fix/cook proper food for him and how to pack his lunch? Teach her keto. She's already cooking so why not just teach her the dos and don'ts? I'm missing something here.
Amazing documentary, and hoping it’ll open up communications to my own dad who has Type 2 and just got out of the hospital after failure to manage it. Quick question though and I believe I missed it, but what was Geoff’s Mind goal?
I discovered Veganism almost 4 years ago. I lost well over 140 pounds, It so good I have peope I know who is shocked, dismayed, a doctor thought I had to become a drug addict. She thought it was no way I could lost 120 plus pounds in 18 months, Trust me it was hard. I reached a point that this lifestyle had me skipping meals. I wasnt hungry as I used to be. I tot scared during Covid as I did no exercise d say many weeks of a 3 to 5 pounds lost in a week...But now to am so deep into it, I am upset if my scale shows a 2 to 3 pounds weight gain. I learned that Vegan Junk food exists. I am careful now to never skip reading labels
I can't express how angry it makes me when someone makes no distinction between the simplest carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates, and this especially when it comes from a physician (@14:17) who is expected to provide clarity and insight. Indigestible fiber is a carbohydrate that we need and come from plant foods that contain a superabundance of carbohydrates, most of which are complex.
@@CountBeetle The evidence provided by "petrified poopies" from our cave-man ancestors suggests that we should eat a high-fiber diet that provides between 100 and 200 grams of fiber per day. If you eat that and don't go over your calorie needs you will be eating a nonprocessed plant-based diet.
I guess there's still not much hope listening to the doctor's and experts in the video. It's not carbs that cause diabetes, it's ultra processed food. Unfortunately there's way too much money there to do anything about that soon. It took decades before action was taken against tobacco even.

You’re not crying I am
Any more information on how this is going now .i like your show top effort
bit concerned here.
Self made doesn't mean that the root cause is the self if you don't know how to uncause the issue.
How is he going now after these years
Revesing diabetes, happening all the time, with diet! Check out Jason Fung, Sarah Hallberg or Diet Doctor!
Videos of a person in a diabetic rage
True!😊
About Dad's refusal to cook - Why can't you just teach Marilyn how to fix/cook proper food for him and how to pack his lunch? Teach her keto. She's already cooking so why not just teach her the dos and don'ts? I'm missing something here.
Was thinking the same..Marilyn enjoys cooking for him so wats the fuss about???Am sure she wud be glad to cook wat he needs to get better
Amazing documentary, and hoping it’ll open up communications to my own dad who has Type 2 and just got out of the hospital after failure to manage it. Quick question though and I believe I missed it, but what was Geoff’s Mind goal?
Grabbing and holding on to the glimmer of hope that the condition could be reversed?
2:00. Tears: jerked.
Why didn't they talk about what he ate? I'm prediabetic and wondering if anyone has a word on reversing it
Look for example into the work of MD's David Unwin Jason Fung... Combining a low carb diet with regular fasting seems to be a good approach.
This one hit me hard
Food companies are like big tobacco of the past . Just don't eat the junk they sell
ALL LIFESTYLES DISEASES ARE REVERSIBLE IF YOU MODIFY YOUR LIFESTYLE
I can't express how angry it makes me when someone makes no distinction between the simplest carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates, and this especially when it comes from a physician (@14:17) who is expected to provide clarity and insight. Indigestible fiber is a carbohydrate that we need and come from plant foods that contain a superabundance of carbohydrates, most of which are complex.
He said eat above ground vegetables they have fibre and are carbs. But reality is the aren’t needed. Animal protein and fats is all you need.
People are just LAZY and CARELESS
What sorts of foods does one eat?
@@CountBeetle The evidence provided by "petrified poopies" from our cave-man ancestors suggests that we should eat a high-fiber diet that provides between 100 and 200 grams of fiber per day. If you eat that and don't go over your calorie needs you will be eating a nonprocessed plant-based diet.
@@tom47opm3 You are asking for trouble with a diet like that.
I guess there's still not much hope listening to the doctor's and experts in the video. It's not carbs that cause diabetes, it's ultra processed food. Unfortunately there's way too much money there to do anything about that soon. It took decades before action was taken against tobacco even.
