I remember you buying this camper and was wondering when you'd go camping with it. Seeing you cook the eggs made me remember the time you forgot to bring the eggs. Typical Chris just laughed it off.
You could mix it up by using the camper as a base then doing a overnight hike. Don't give up on back packing. Please

I was wondering when you would use the pop up. Another great video, camping, cooking, story telling and great photography. I'm a huge fan of your history lessons and folk tales and of course the cooking. The camping is the icing on the cake. I think I was in Nebraska when I saw wagon wheel ruts from the 1800's, they had packed the ground down so hard nothing would grow in them. Always looking forward to the next one, stay safe and cheers!

    • @basecampchris
      @basecampchris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thanks 👍 Ben! I have never seen the wagon ruts...outside of photos. Just the idea that they traveled right where you are standing sounds really cool.

Chris, if you want you can use your lanter as a night light and enough heat to keep the chill off. Use your cleaner wire turn the wire almost straight up, the light will dim and you will get enough heat to keep the dew from building up inside. I HAVE DONE IT FOR YEARS.

I liked this one. As a child, probably 15 years old (I am also from August 1962) I read a book by Gwen Bristow called the Jubilee trail. It is a story of a young woman making a trip like this. I found it amazing. Still treasure the book with paintings from a Dutch artist Anton Pieck.

Chris, Fun Taco Tip....Next time you make Tacos: Heat up one extra taco shell and lay it on the bottom of your plate. Then as you eat your other three Tacos, all that falls out goes onto the fourth Taco shell and you get a fourth Taco or a Tostada! Fun Tip, I hope you like it. Cathleen

You should take some refried beans with you. You could’ve put some beans in your tortilla with the bacon, potatoes and eggs, cheese/salsa on top, breakfast tacos! It’s a thing! Leftover tacos can be wrapped in foil and put them in your windshield to keep warm and it’s lunch tacos!!

I've got both the dual fuel lantern and dual fuel stove, great bits of kit! My stove was manufactured in 1991 and I bought it 3 years ago and haven't replaced anything. If you do use either the lantern or stove with petrol regularly as I do, I would recommend putting through a fill of shellite every couple of refills, it burns cleaner and help to prevent clogging from the impurities in the petrol.

Plus, I've never liked the frigid water of Lake Tahoe. I will always be thankful that I got to experience the beauty of Lake Pyramid. Summer season is the best. ☀️🏜️

I've been considering getting a small camper or even preferably a small RV for awhile now. I think it would be fun to be able to just hit the road for a week or two and travel around staying at a new place every few days. After seeing your pop up and how efficient and just roomie enough that they are I really think I could be happy with even just one of those. I would imagine that I could take a pop up a lot more places than I would be able to fit a larger camper or RV.

Nice video. Reminds me of when I lived in the high desert of NV. Crisp, quiet mornings without a cloud were my favorite.
While most people think they do, they really have no idea how harsh the desert truly is. I have drank water most people wouldn't use as a toilet and was happy to have it. The terrain, lack of water or shade, the heat, lack of sustaining resources. For the settlers, add to that, people hostile to your presence.. Everyday day makes you appreciate the enormity of the unimaginable challenge of crossing with horse and wagon.
I used to venture out into the desert on a dirt bike. What speaks loudest to the conditions is the fact that finding grave sites of where settlers had to leave loved ones behind is not at all uncommon.
    Safe travels.

    • @basecampchris

Look in the areas on the Eastern side of the state not far off the Utah border......North of the Pioche/Panaca/Caliente and South of Wheeler Peak.. You can even find some with short crude wrought iron fences around them. I think they are from the period.
Also historical markers...i.e.......13 Morman families (with the family names) killed here by such and such a tribe. Then it names the names of the families sent there to replace them....damn brave........that one is in a valley (Eagle Valley, I think) just north of Panaca to the east of Pioche.

I really enjoyed this one. That first rock formation had the profile of a face. 😁 I never knew the desert beauty until I started watching adventure videos. Love the stories and histories you share, plus the info written below the vid. Thank you! ✌

The tacos look like they came out good. We also have a Pyramid Lake here in CA near to Castaic. It may be a desolate desert where you are Chris but that lake is sure a pretty blue!

I really enjoyed this video. Good to see you using the Coleman lantern and stove. Great tried, tested, and proven reliable tools for non backpack camping.

Liked the tacos Chris, you could have warmed tortillas on your skillet. Just saying, truly enjoy your episodes and scary stories. I am a recent subscriber and have seen most of your vids. Need new ones, appreciate all the history, as I majored in History. Happy new year to you and your family.
