Thank you Chris for digging up a blast from the past. I remember back in the OLD days in the summer season going to the drive-in theater, (I believe it was seasonal, never remember any drive-ins open in the winter). Hot, and sweating was what I remembered about drive-ins back in the 70's. No air condition in the car, windows rolled up to keep the mosquitos out. What really top off the night was hoping you picked a good spot with a good speaker. Sometimes the speaker output was low, or it would rattle when you turned up the volume. I think we always brought our own food and beverages. Also enjoyed people arriving late so their headlights from the car would interfere with the movie screen. Ah, what memories. I think Las Vegas still has an operating drive-in theater. No desire to leave my 70 inch 4K UHD TV in the comfort of my home eating my hotdogs in a bun, potato chips, and drinking a bottle of beer.

I really miss Drive-in theatres, they were so much fun for everyone ; I wish they’d bring them back , it was an economical way to see a movie with the whole family, no babysitters required and it was fun. The whole family would pile into the car with snacks, blankets and pillows for the younger kids; teenagers would have a great time hopping from one car to another socialising, meeting up at the snack bar during intermissions and watching the movie . Addendum: Thanks Chris for this bit of nostalgia with the historical inserts, reminding us what they were like in their hay days, that said, it’s so sad to see what used to be a popular social and family outing, abandoned and derelict, it kind of represents how our culture has shifted. ❤️🇨🇦

How fun! The drive-in was one of the highlights of my youth!? Sneak a friend or two into the trunk of the car or under blankets in the back seat so we wouldn’t have to pay admission for everyone! Or we’d try to get our parents to let us take the convertible. That was really fun to at the drive-in…Great video! Thank for bringing back nice memories!
At 0:24 just as you were giving the narrative of being 'stealthy' it looks like a police vehicle driving along that highway you mentioned. I worked at a drive-in back in the early 80s, in Ontario Canada. It had a capacity of 667 vehicle spaces, and during the 1978 run of "Smokey and the Bandit" it sold-out nightly for a month. Often car line-ups stretched in two different directions for a mile each way to get into the place. It was common for people to be turned away in those days. 30+ years on now it's just a vacant field. Great video, brought back good memories for me.
@@basecampchris Your video editing is epic, like a well planned TV documentary. The Drive-in video is what drew me to your YT channel. I would love to see more abandoned stuff like amusement parks, train stations, schools or hotels. Thanks again.

@@basecampchris We got very high winds during hurricane Ian as it went through Fort Myers. I live in Okeechobee maybe 200 miles from Fort Myers. I never lost power so all night your videos kept me company! As the winds were blowing I was really into one of your stories then all of a sudden I hear a loud thump on my roof it made me jump up! LOL I'm like thinking okay it's just a tree limb that fell on my roof! Kept watching the videos I think I went to bed around 3 in the morning. The next day I went outside and my yard looked like a war zone debris all over. Looked up at the roof and a piece of tree fell on my roof! Luckily it didn't damage the roof. I suspect you might just have got away with that when the ticket booth agent was looking the other way. Cheers..keep up the good work.
Chris you really worked on this one. It was very nice. Love your program.i am 68 and in lucedale Mississippi where as a child papa would take us 5 kids to brannons drive in. Sometimes who ever drove had to pull the speaker in the cars window.he would forget and drive off with it still in the window.
Nice production Chris, keep up the good work and thanks for cracking me up with your humor, Chris would you consider doing a costal camping catch and cook?, that'd be awesome
Enjoyed all the drive-in commercials, I'm old enough to remember it well. We actually have a 2 screen drive-in in our town, it opened in 1956, recently some vandals went in and did a lot of damage so it is closed, hopefully just temporarily. They have sound system that tunes into your car radio so no old speakers in the window. They show 2 movies per screen usually Friday through Sunday night. Pretty cool
There are a couple of drive in movie places near Overland Park, KS (Kansas City area), I've been there and always enjoyed the low landscaping and low lights around the trees and bushes, so quaint. The drive in I am talking about here, if memory serve, are The Twins. Two big screens. Last I knew they are still operating, definitely seasonal. Loved this Chris. Also loved the Pony Express episode, and the episode with your dad and the jets crashing (sad to say). You're the best!
Hahaha ha 😆 This is truly Awesome! I love your editing skills. I really liked how you made it look like you were the movie playing on the drive-in screen. Your stealth camping 🏕 is awesome. Great job with editing and all the effects. Little touches make a huge difference. Love how you have your video on the drive in screen at the end. Subbed!
Great watch ! What a creepy outing I think even more than the neighborhood snow storm one. You need some Macks wax earplugs drown out all that noise but then you wouldn’t hear some creep coming into your tent I guess.
Oh definite thumbs up campout here!!👍👍 Just like with the B-52s campout, it just goes to how quickly things get discarded and forgotten here in the good old USA. There was a movie in the 70's called Drive-In. I think I'll see if I can find it and watch it.
Chris thus brought back memories. My family went to a drive in at Cincird CA. Walt Disney movies. The lines to get in. We popped our own popcorn to bring in. .😊
Cool video for sure... I've been to quite a few movies in a Drive-in in Orange Texas when I was a kid, but I've never slept in one...! lol Btw, I'm just catchin up on all your older videos and this is yet another great one...! Thanks for sharing...!
Very well executed vid Chris. I really enjoyed it. Where I grew up , there was 5 drive-ins within a 40 minute drive. One was restricted to 18 and older. Russ Meyer films ect.Cheers ,keep hikin.
Thank you...really enjoyed working on this one...so many memories. So cool for you to have 5 Drive Ins nearby! KP HKING! ( I may go back and do a Sequel at this Drive In! )
Excellent, creative storytelling......we thoroughly enjoyed watching your video! Loved all the old commercial picture in a picture....especially the end with the end of the story on the “big screen”!
You out did yourself, Chris. Cool trip, but the extra video and audio inserts along with the graphics were cool. I always look forward to your vids! Jeff
In spite of giving away my age, as a youth, I had JUST caught the end of the existence of Drive-In movie theaters in my area. There were four that I frequented and actually preferred them to regular theaters as they had offered more food options at the snack bar, such as hamburgers, pizza and hot dogs, something not found in regular theaters at the time. Of the four theaters, only one still had the old fashioned speakers. It was a small one that also had an indoor theater on the property. There were two double screen theaters and one with three screens, which was quite large. Another benefit of the Drive In was that they usually offered a double feature, a mainstream release and a second run. However, in the mid to late 80's one by one, they closed down and with it, much of the fun of watching movies in the great outdoors. 4:55 Given the rusted out condition of the screen, I would have been worried about camping right under it. If you had a windy night, one of those large panels could have fallen on you! 5:15 That is cool that you had theater style snacks for the night. Now all you needed is a personal projector and you could have projected a movie on that screen to go with those snacks! 5:37 That IS an amazing sunset! 6:00 You definitely need a windscreen for your camera mic. 7:52 I think it was "Let's all go to the lobby and have ourselves a snack." Even though there weren't lobbies in drive-ins, they used the same clips. I do remember the "Yum Yum" one you posted at 12:33. 12:50 That's a nice little stove rig you have there! 14:36 NICE! Looks tasty! Now I am hungry...so I have to fix myself a snack! ...Back! 15:38, I would have brought the meal to your car and ate there...get it, Drive-In? Actually even by your tent would have been nicer than in there. 17:13 That would be a good idea since you don't have a portable projector! LOL! BTW I am loving the little clips and ads you are posting! Cool camping location! Brings back some memories! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks do much for watching and giving such a detailed commentary. It was kind of a weird place to eat but I was so focused on the idea/ memories of the drive versus the current condition that I didn't mind. Great old memories and fun!
Wow, that was highly entertaining! I love the movies, but I only have been to a Drive In Theater once. I am not brave enough to explore an abandoned place all by myself. I guess, I am a big ol' chicken lol BTW, I totally like your editing!!!!!

Hahaha ha 😆 This is truly Awesome! I love your editing skills. I really liked how you made it look like you were the movie playing on the drive-in screen. Your stealth camping 🏕 is awesome. You sure did bring back a lot of good memories with this stealth camping trip.
Thank you 😊 bunches.
You're Awesome.
🤗 HUGS 🤗
PS,
Drive-in's and camping were my favorite things growing up also. They still are 😆
Thank you! 😁
Great job with editing and all the effects. Little touches make a huge difference. Love how you have your video on the drive in screen at the end. Subbed!
Thanks so much!
I love my memories of the drive in theatre. Oh, the good ole days!
That was awesome Chris brought back memories.
Thanks - Good Stuff!
Great watch !
What a creepy outing I think even more
than the neighborhood snow storm one.
You need some Macks wax earplugs
drown out all that noise but then you wouldn’t hear some creep coming into your tent I guess.
Cool place in it's day...now a little scary! doable though! Thanks!
nice job !!! i really enjoyed the old time ads !!!
Brilliant memories 👏 👌 ❤️
Thank you, 💖
Oh definite thumbs up campout here!!👍👍 Just like with the B-52s campout, it just goes to how quickly things get discarded and forgotten here in the good old USA. There was a movie in the 70's called Drive-In. I think I'll see if I can find it and watch it.
Chris thus brought back memories. My family went to a drive in at Cincird CA. Walt Disney movies. The lines to get in. We popped our own popcorn to bring in. .😊
this is certainly my favourite based camp chris at the moment saving this video its a cool v0deo.....
That was a fun trip! Thanks.
Really cool and nostalgic. We also had one drive-thru theater here in Lévis, Québec (Canada) that closed in 2014 and I also have lots of good memories
Super cool spot! Thanks for sharing!
Welcome...fun overnighter for me!
Great video.. Drive ins were awesome
Glad you enjoyed!
Great video. I loved the old commercials and music you used in your video! Such a different time. Thanks!
Fun stuff! Thanks. BCC
Wot a great video, I watch lots of stealth camping videos, and this was a good one. Lots of fun. We'll done to you dude !
Cool video for sure... I've been to quite a few movies in a Drive-in in Orange Texas when I was a kid, but I've never slept in one...! lol Btw, I'm just catchin up on all your older videos and this is yet another great one...! Thanks for sharing...!
Very cool! that was a good trip.
just leave the car behind the snack bart too! love the sunset and the cool history lesson thanks for bringing me
Thanks for the memories. I love your imagination.
Thanks so much! I had a lot of fun doing this adventure! Yes end screen hiking off into the sunset !!
You're so funny! 😂 Good video.

You out did yourself, Chris. Cool trip, but the extra video and audio inserts along with the graphics were cool. I always look forward to your vids! Jeff

I camp and all those areas you go into
Keep it up
Love it man. Great exploring.
Thanks a lot! Good times.
You can still go to a drive-in in Graham, Tx and then go to the downtown remodeled old movie theater for another blast to the past.
Very cool and different adventure! I don't eat hotdogs very often but now have the craving for a couple! lol Thanks for sharing. :) :)
LOL! Thanks for watching!
P.S. Hello Chris, this video was cleverly done. I saw the 🎥 movie HONDO in 3D,
Take care. 🤗
Cool 👍 did not know that was also in 3D!!
Wow, that was highly entertaining! I love the movies, but I only have been to a Drive In Theater once. I am not brave enough to explore an abandoned place all by myself. I guess, I am a big ol' chicken lol
BTW, I totally like your editing!!!!!
Hey Thanks Kat! Appreciate it...That was a fun little trip.
Just found your video and really enjoyed it!
