I almost want to take a trip to Thailand and hire a translator so I can learn what they are doing over there.

The backwater has a better mounting system for the transom i have had that motor for 4 years in the salt marshes of Utah and as long as you keep the shaft greased and keep an eye on the bushing on the shaft by the prop they are great mine is a medium kit with a 14 horse preadator 9 inch prop pushes 14 foot john boat with 2 adults 8 dozen decoys and all of our gear at 14 miles per hour according to the gps if I put 3 guy's in it it dogs out
I would love to have a backwaters on all my boats... just out of my price range at the moment for all the builds I have going on right now. They make an awesome mud motor.
Would you be willing to do a video on their fuel consumption? I'm intruiged as to what their run times are and if its possible to add a linkage for an auxiliary tank? I've seen yours, but how did you do it?

Randy, we probably have been watching the same videos.... I don't trust those reviews at all. I ahve ran 2 of the major kits in the past and I know they both work, I am waiting on one more to ship so I can get the review started. I think it will be helpful for people on the fence about what kit to buy.

@@SendItJonBoats some duck hunting waders and trapper hat snow gloves maybe even a wet suit could work too. that's what I've been doing weather in az on the water had been in the 30s in the mornings. Only issue is motor need to warm up longer than normal.
Send it jon boats, Love the longtails, I have an older model mudskipper kit on a predator 420, I have not played with different prop sizes to see what is the best and since I bought it used it only had the one 6.5" prop, since I hear you are the Wiseman of the longtail could you tell what works for your 420 setup?
I have ran from 5.5 inch props all the way up to 8 inch props on the 420 set ups... all depends on the boat, how it rides, and what motor mods you have. No two boats of mine have been the same.
So I got an inflatable catamaran and I’m gonna strap one of these mud motors to it. I have a predator 212. And the catamaran is on back order I’m just waiting till I can afford the long tail kit. Should I document my build ?
For how long can this motor run before overheating? Can I use it for traveling 35 miles straight without having no issues? And thanks for the video man cheers!
They have a fan on the front of the motor that keeps them cool. You can do 35 miles no problem. The motors are the same ones used on pressure washers and lawn mowers
Having experience installing 2 stroke motors on beach cruisers for my friends I will be the first person to tell you that most guys simply cannot stay on-top of minimal maintenance issues
Oh I hear ya on that... just getting people to change the oil in a lawn mower once a year is like pulling teeth! LOL, luckily the cheapo harbor freight motors are cheap to replace if people cant stay on top of maintenance.

To get the power out of the little motors a GEAR reduction SETUP is what's needed Gear reduction needed to turn the prop 2-3xs faster than the RPM of the engine

I’ve got a 8 hp beaver tail mud motor with a 1” output shaft and I’ve got a 16 hp vanguard that has a tapered shaft. Where can I get a u joint that is tapered on one end and 3/4” straight on the other?

I had to sub immediately when I found you, I’m currently working on a 1440 Jon boat. Planning on upgrading to a 1648 when I find one at a decent price. For the time being I would like a mud motor on my 1440. I’m thinking about doing the beaver dam kit and running a 22 hp predator. That way I can move it to my 1648 when I get it. Do you think it will be too much for the 1440? I reinforced the transom like you did and planning on adding pods. Any info helps, thanks for the videos! I’m also going to be filming my project and putting it on my channel!
I started with the hf 420 and 85” from a cheapest kit. Broke the old style coupler that’s like a dual style key flat head screwdriver shaft to duel cutout coupler. Crap. Went with spline and gold. 22hp… then 100”. More pitch. Then more pitch. Bent rods broke props. Then built a motor. Bent those rods and well. Stock motor bullet prop and haven’t looked back. Have to jam that sked down sometimes but once you get going again 10mpg and reliable is just so hard to get away from. Just me gets 25 on a 1440 and it works every time. When you have multiple other boats ocean, airboat, but just don’t want a 30k legit mud boat, a home built long tail does fit the bill just right.
They take some adjustment and tinkering with to get them dialed in and make them easy to drive. Thats the thing about these cheap motors, got to put in the time and work on them to get them dialed in right or else they are a bear to drive!

@@stanp6383 Your in the same kind of water as me. Shallow rivers with a few deeps holes but mostly super shallow. We have a lot of stretches of the rivers near me that are less than 6 inches of water and nothing but mud, leaves, pine straw, and sand... along with a bazillion downed trees! A long tail is about all that will survive it.
I'm currently building a 10 ft crackerbox using a beaver dam kit mounted inboard and a fully built 224 predator. Expecting 25 to 30 mph with a 92lb 12 year old girl as pilot.

I gotta disagree on the bias comment though, i think he does a fine job explaining each point and why he feels the way he does about each setup. I have only had a PPF wood duck and now a Swamp Runner but it was his detailed videos that made me choose that, not his trashing or bias. I could have had a backwater, but the expense and seeing the benefit of a longer tail both led me in the direction i went. Keep it real, keep it interesting and please stay above any negativity and you will go far with fans. Oh, and don't forget to turn your auto focus off so the camera won't be searching for focus when ya move!

@@MudMotorsMax I'm not an iphone user, but i know on my phone there is a pro mode that lets me choose the aperture and iso and pick a focus point. I figure they would have one too. Just move the focus point to where you will be standing and you will be good to go. I really think a good video for you would be like a beginners guide to long tails, what tools do you need on the water, how often do you do maintenance, what is something you wish you knew before your first build... you know, stuff like that.
Hold off until you see my review... I was really shocked at the truth when I looked at the kits side by side. Absolutely confirmed that most previous reviews I have seen are fake or paid. The truth is about to come out.
Nobody is building crazy long tails here because of the availability of factory made long tails and surface drives from Go-devil, Backwater, gator tail, mud buddy, pro drove, boss etc.

So long as I run the carb dry after every use. The fuel gums up like crazy in these carbs for some reason.

I just scooped up a 15ft 42in Jon boat and trailer with a working 16hp Go-devil motor for $500 bucks best 2 hour drive to save thousands.

Call Beaver Tail, they might have an adapter.

Yeah it will work fine on a 1440. I ran the 22 on 1036 and it worked good.

When you have multiple other boats ocean, airboat, but just don’t want a 30k legit mud boat, a home built long tail does fit the bill just right.
I had the 22hp predator long tail and that thing kicked my butt but been thinking of giving another try Looking forward for all the helpful tips
They take some adjustment and tinkering with to get them dialed in and make them easy to drive. Thats the thing about these cheap motors, got to put in the time and work on them to get them dialed in right or else they are a bear to drive!
@@SendItJonBoats my sore muscles agree with you lol My river is deep holes followed by shallow flats , inches in some spots I don't think I could run anything but a long tail without destroying it lol
@@stanp6383 Your in the same kind of water as me. Shallow rivers with a few deeps holes but mostly super shallow. We have a lot of stretches of the rivers near me that are less than 6 inches of water and nothing but mud, leaves, pine straw, and sand... along with a bazillion downed trees! A long tail is about all that will survive it.

I'm currently building a 10 ft crackerbox using a beaver dam kit mounted inboard and a fully built 224 predator. Expecting 25 to 30 mph with a 92lb 12 year old girl as pilot.

The small kits for the 212 is $475. They are good kits, I just got one for my 212, which I need to hop up and see how much speed I can get out of it.
You may want to check out the mud skipper twister and twister lite for $520 , also OMB warehouse has performance parts for predator engines .

I gotta disagree on the bias comment though, i think he does a fine job explaining each point and why he feels the way he does about each setup. I have only had a PPF wood duck and now a Swamp Runner but it was his detailed videos that made me choose that, not his trashing or bias. I could have had a backwater, but the expense and seeing the benefit of a longer tail both led me in the direction i went. Keep it real, keep it interesting and please stay above any negativity and you will go far with fans. Oh, and don't forget to turn your auto focus off so the camera won't be searching for focus when ya move!

@@MudMotorsMax I'm not an iphone user, but i know on my phone there is a pro mode that lets me choose the aperture and iso and pick a focus point. I figure they would have one too. Just move the focus point to where you will be standing and you will be good to go. I really think a good video for you would be like a beginners guide to long tails, what tools do you need on the water, how often do you do maintenance, what is something you wish you knew before your first build... you know, stuff like that.

Nobody is building crazy long tails here because of the availability of factory made long tails and surface drives from Go-devil, Backwater, gator tail, mud buddy, pro drove, boss etc.
