I also check the racks closest to the dressing room too! Those are items that people found interesting enough to try on.

What a great concise overview! One suggestion I have is to check how the thrift tag was attached. Some places use a tagging gun incorrectly or staple items on, so it’s good to be aware of whether removing the thrift tag will cause damage.

Helpful as always... thanks!!! I also glance through random aisles that I don't sell (i.e. kids) because things get labeled wrong and people stash things in weird places... 😊

I just wanted to stop by and say how wonderful this video is from start to finish. Its extremely thorough, professional, and well-done. I love the attention to detail with editing - as in, including bullet points for your topics and wrapping up at the end by reviewing all that you went over throughout the video. Your tie-in to Whatnot was great, too! I love watching your videos, but this one really stood out to me. I love it! I consider your channel a great resource for the reselling / entrepreneur community. Thank you for making this! I love watching your channel and business grow.

Thank you for the tips! I really enjoy watching your videos. I am fortunate and have a goodwill store near me that gives out 20% coupons every time you make a donation. I keep a bag of clothes in my car that is not worth reselling and make it a habit of donating a handful of clothes to get the coupon before I shop for the day. It really helps to keep the cost of goods down 😊

We always thought a discount would be a great incentive for donations at Goodwill. We wish ours would do the same.

Another reason why Monday and Tuesday are best is because a) the tags usually change on Sunday and b) Saturday the thrifts are packed with old dudes and high school kids and Sunday the thrifts are packed with entire huge families epsecially after they are on their way back from La Iglesia (at least here in TX)
    Monday and Tuesday ftw
A good tip also is to mark your calendar when certain thrifts do certain discount days. If you're a teacher, veteran, senior, etc, there might be a day when there's a better discount. For example our Salvation Armies have 50% the whole store on Wednesdays so I'm never at Goodwill on Wednesday because Salvation Army is draining all my energy battling the crowds listening to THAT DAMN MUSIC (Cayley, grrrrr)
Another tip that just occurred to me is to sign up for various points or bonus programs if your thrifts have them. They'll also send you notifications of special sales via email or text. We have a couple good ones - one thrift chain lets you accumulate points, and when you get 200 points your entire next thrift haul is 50% off. They also just let members know they were putting the whole store 50% off for a weekend, beforehand so we could show up early. And the St Vincent DP has a membership card you can sign up for, and you get $5 off for every hundred you spend or something, and $5 gift credit on your birthday! And they also alert you to sales.
    Happy hunting

This video is wonderful. Exactly what I want to see. I have learned a lot of these along the way but there are NO videos like this out there. It's all about brands when watching youtube videos and when I started I did not know how to thrift. It definitely is an art to learn. Thank you so much!

Also don't forget to put your best finds on the top of your cart and roll slowly by the other resellers so you can rub it in that you found all the stuff they missed.

Items in the wrong category . I look them up because sometimes other buyers hide things in the wrong category. I found some really nice gems this way. Some times someone dumped them off too.

Cayley this is an excellent video. We already use many strategies, some of which you’ve mentioned previously but we did pick up another tip in this one. Thank you.
When we first started we also wrote down the color rotation at our local thrift store so that we would know what items are going on sale and when. Sometimes it can be a different buying decision if you know an item will be half price the next day.

Great video! Each thrift store is definitely a different though. I work for a chain of thrift stores in Southern California. We put out new items all day, every day, 7 days a week. Our goal is 18 racks of 100 items each every day. So 1800 new pieces of clothing daily. Shoes, accessories and hard goods are in addition to that. So the shop early in the week or early in the day advice doesn't really apply to the chain that I work for. So absolutely ask your thrift stores how they run things.
Also, we pull inventory that has been on the floor for a few weeks and send it out to a clearance center, similar to the goodwill bins. There is always always always good stuff that has not sold during those few weeks. So, at least in my store, I wouldn't automatically assume that there is not anything good in the older merchandise.
BTW It is so hard for me to pull these good items and send them out but I am not allowed to purchase anything for resale at my store 😂

My local thrift stores have a .99 cent color tag twice a week. While you might think there's nothing left by the time they drop the price to .99, I always find good items that they marked up so much no one bought them when they were half off in the days before the .99 cent sale.

I remember when thrift store shopping used to be like this. 🤣 Sadly, none of this is happening here. No sales. No discounts at all at Goodwiils. And oh yeah, no name brands. Not for the past 5 years.
    But great video Cayley! Seriously.
