      reminds of the screenplay quote by dumbledore: 'Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.' think it's also a bit inspired by it, but there proably 50 others like this out there.

    So, fun fact, Avatar, particularly airbender culture, takes A LOT of inspiration from Tibetan Buddhism. Iroh saying he left his physical body behind to come to the spirit world connects pretty well to a concept in Tibetan Buddhism called the Rainbow Body, a dissolution of the physical body into pure light near the time of death upon attaining complete knowledge (which is defined as the absence of delusion). Those who have attained the Rainbow Body can appear wherever their compassion directs them. Its a concept that really suits Iroh I think!

    If you are looking for answers why Korra manifested her child version in that part of the spirit world, well, if you think about it, the theme the show always wanted Korra to learn is CHANGE. Changes in her mindset, in her outlook, in her attitude and the in her ways of dealing things. You see, she had to lose her bending to be open to a greater change, she lost her memories to change the way she think about being an avatar, she has to become a child and lose all her experience to be able to change and reshape her outlook in things. All through out the series you will notice that. I hope this answers your question. This is one of the most interesting bits of themes and concepts the show proves that it grows up with its audiences. Thank you for reading. :)

    I really loved this for Iroh, the idea that when he knew his time had come he left his body and chose to come the spirit world to remain it's just so fitting for him. Like you said we only heard about his connection to the spirits and the spirit world but never got to experience it until now. I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the show so far. I actually also really like Korra reverting back to a child, the spirit world for the Avatar like Iroh said their emotions can change reality there. Korra was extremely frightened and vulnerable, she felt completely helpless like being a small child again. I do also think because Korra was like a child prodigy with bending and knowing she was the avatar she grew up with a sense of purpose but she had tunnel vision only thinking about being the avatar and was very sheltered as her parents and Tenzin wanted to protect her from the outside world. Her whole world revolved around being the avatar and she didn't think about being anything else. This is why Amon was so frightening a figure. Even though she was sheltered from the world she wasn't a normal child I wondered if she even had friends her age or if she was constantly around adults all the time. She didn't have the world experience or room to figure out herself more so she is figuring things out later in life then Aang did though she is still very young.

    Hi guys, I knew you'd enjoy this one. The spirit world was much more distant in the last airbender, bringing it closer in Korra really helps to elevate the spiritual themes. I think Korra is a child in this one because she feels so vulnerable. The appearance of a spiritual being is affected by their own energy and that of others around them.

      There have been plenty of unique spirits this season, so I think that’s a bit unfair to say. Also, it’s not about good and evil. It’s about balance. After all, we’ve seen many non-corrupted spirits who were violent and aggressive, in just this episode alone. We’ve also seen otherwise peaceful spirits become corrupted by other reasons back in ATLA. So the fact spirits are corruptible has always existed.

    • @yabada7866
      @yabada7866 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@c.a.honeycutt5046 There is no uniqeness to the spirits in this season. All of them are either "corrupted" or "normal". There is no unique abilities to the generic spirits they showed us. In ATLA every spirit has a role or unique ability. Koi fish represented Yin and Yang, neither of them was good or evil themselves alone. It only gets "dark" or "corrupted" when one of them gets killed by Zhao, hence, breaking the balance. Hei bai becomes "corrupted" when its home gets burned. They are not moral or immoral, they are amoral. Also it is about good and evil. Raava and Vaatu is a western representation of God and Satan. In Yin and Yang philosophy, they don't battle but "They balance each other with an eternal dance" as Koh said in ATLA. Raava battling with Vaatu eternally, instead of co-existing shows how wrong is their "balance" representation is. Not only it was a wrong representation, their battle is technically out of balance. Raava battling Vaatu is not balace but an imbalance, so by battling Vaatu, Raava does not keep balance but disturbs it. Not battling Vaatu also disturbs the balance, so it's a loose loose in any case. Sorry to break it to you my friend but although it seems like they are showing balance at first glance, it is not the case. If you have any slight information on what balance is and what is Yin and Yang, you would know. LOK fails to follow its own logic. They don't have any idea about the theme they are working on.
      For more information, I suggest you search about Yin and Yang and compare it to the God and Satan. I have specific suggestions for you which they are specifically about this subject:
      Legend of Korra's 'Beginnings' | An Overdue Critique by Hello Future Me
      The Problem with Spirits in Legend of Korra by Unicorn of War - Thomas Vaccaro
      Both of them are on TH-cam and both these creators are LOK lovers. Unlike you, however, they understood the theme of Yin and Yang and God and Satan.

    Now, this is one special episode... IROH comes to do what he does best!... He's MERLIN, he's OBI-WAN, He's YODA, He's JIRAIYA, He's DOC. BROWN, he's GANDALF, He's MR. MIYAGIH... He's the archetype of the MAGE ~ "Driven to understand the fundamental laws of the universe in order to make dreams into reality", he's also, but not always, the archetype of the MENTOR ~ "who serves as a guide, advisor, and teacher to the protagonist. The mentor possesses knowledge, skills, and experience that the protagonist lacks, and they help the protagonist to develop their own abilities and overcome obstacles". (in Korra, Tenzin also fullfills that role although with specific aspects, since Korra in is Journey meets with "other" mentors).
    For IROH, dont think there's anyone in the Avatar community who doesnt love this episode!... Spartan and Pudgey didnt escape that! Thank You for another great reaction!... Spartan!... Yup you are right!... You havent seen it all... Season 3 antagonist (and some other things including the end! :)) elevates that season to another level!

    wah shi tong hates humans because they only use his knowledge for war , and zhao burnt all his precious books to destroy intelligence of the fire nation . Then sokka tricked him again to gain knowledge for war and aang was with him so he kind of hates the avatar, he doesn't really care what happens to humans, he just hates them and unalok is probably very knowledgable also , he makes exceptions when someone is well read or smart i think plus he didn't know about radio because he sunk his library to the spirit world and doesnt get knowledge from the physical world

    Korra being a toddle the spirit realm is representative of her emotional control.
    Also the Iroh luncheon scene is a tribute to Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter table.
    Korra is on a clock/chasing like Alice looking for the rabbit (the Spirit bunny/Jinora)
    The Mad Hatter's lesson in Alice in Wonderland is to stop dwelling on the past and stop worrying about the future.
    To enjoy your company! Iroh gives this lesson to calm down toddler Korra when her tantrum starts to turn the guests at his table dark.

    I always took Korra being a child in the spirit world as her being spiritually and emotionally "immature". But this season to me needed a lot of "self-interpretations". Like maybe Lin is under pressure under the president causing her attitude in this season, or the dissolution of the Council of Republic City taking away the most effective diplomatic representation of the Southern Water Tribe leading for the chance for a Northern take-over. I just eventually ran out and said "heh, whatever."

  • @vgfunman
    @vgfunman ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Yeah, the Book 2 hate is really unjustified and just comes across as weird.
    Even when it was coming out, a lot of the "flaws" people had with it boiled down to either "I hate that Korra is a flawed character that's on a clear character's journey!" and "I'm mad the writer's aren't writing the story that I specifically want".
    But the truth is that there's no character or arc in Book 2 that is inconsistent or poorly done and the character work Korra gets in this season specifically ties in both to Book 3 and Book 4 immensely.

    Season 2 is easily the weakest season of Korra. The slow start and Korra's horrible attitude makes the first half really drag. The second half of the season is stronger than the first. The lore with Avatar Wan really starts to build some momentum for this season. Despite being the worst season it is the most important season as it lays the essential groundwork for seasons 3 and 4.

But we're just sort of told that they like him and that he's spiritual, instead of seeing what it is about him that makes him so, and are supposed to just accept that on face value.

    Damn, Korra is such a rubbish Avatar... once again she is whipped by the Villain... is the Avatar State even a thing any more? And once again it is down to someone (or something) to Deus Ex Machina her out of peril.
    And whatever happened to the idea of "balance" with the Spirit World? Now it's all about locking up an "evil" spirit for thousands of years? Because of some BS reason that the spirit can't be killed? And how is it that that only works one way - the evil spirit is fine about killing the "good" spirit! No wonder they felt they had to drag Iroh into this hot mess; those feelgood vibes he induces has clearly fogged the critical faculties of some viewers!
