That Mako and Korra scene being described as genuine is HILARIOUS 😂 Especially bc Mako is, both intentionally and unintentionally, being disingenuous as hell to Korra AND Asami
Well yeah, because that would be slagging Mako. And Mako is their boy, their Zuko stand-in...even if he's barely a fraction of the character Zuko was even in book 1 and really sharing nothing in common other than being a male firebender. Hell, dude even can lightning bend like it's nothing and landed the pretty water tribe girl, like they were actively trying to make him "better Zuko" out of the box and give the Zutara shippers a consolation prize. lol At least when Bolin is being a dingus, he's not meant to be "serious" or "cool" so it actually works fine and makes his actually cool and charming moments work more. Mako just kinda feels tryhard, like Bolin trying to play it cool but it actually played straight, and ends up looking like a nob. They at least salvage him a bit with actual characterization in seasons 3 and 4, but he's by far the weakest of the Korra Team Avatar imo (including most of the supporting cast like Aang's kids and the Bei Fongs).
Mako's problem is that he's too shortsightedly intent on not causing pain. If Korra doesn't remember breaking up, telling her would be hurting her all over again. But by not telling her, he sets everyone up for more pain later.
Fr. I’ve never seen someone go so hard for Mako. It’s weird because they didn’t even get on his a** about lying to Korra about them breaking up. It’s one of Mako’s most icky moments in the series.

It was nice that Mako finally got his "I told you so" moment. I can understand why he didn't come right out and say the truth to Korra in that moment in front of everyone. Ideally he would have told her that they need to talk privately and explained it then and there. Instead it feels like he's not being genuine to Korra nor Asami, and everyone's gonna end up feeling like shit.
Ngl after rewatching the show now that I'm older I'm glad things end up they way they do in the series finale. I'll admit the first time around I didn't fully comprehend it nor did I understand all the behind the scenes stuff with the creators wanting that for the character since day one but getting insane pushback by Nickelodeon, they were finally able to end things the way they wanted because Nickelodeon had already planned to pull them from their tv timeslot and put them on the web only for the last season so they said screw it then we are gonna end it how we want. Some say it was too vanilla but I thought it was very tastefully done, if you didn't like the love story you could think of them friends. A few hated it but frankly most of those individuals didn't even realize as it went over their heads until the creators spoke about it later then they had a huge problem lol.

At the time I could understand Asami because this whole season she has been dealing with the aftermath of her father's betrayal, so she was in a psychological fragile place. I mean, it was a betrayal from her own father, anyone would be mistrusting after that. Regarding the spirits, I really think it's Vaatu that controls them, and since Unalaq has been working for him, they will help him.
you're right! varrick isn't all bad! he's just a very, very smart, and very, very selfish man. he pursues his own interests. when those align with other peoples', great! when they don't, he manipulates the playing field until they do. he doesn't actually Want People to Suffer and Die, he wants to make money and build cool shit and have a giant boat. he's got a great arc where he never really leaves his pro-varrick leanings, but does make some strides towards pro-other people leanings.

Guys, I think you missed the real motivations of Varrick the whole season. His only reason why he wanted to "help" the southern water tribe (and the operative word here is "help") was because of profit. All for HIS own profit. Technically, he doesnt help anyone with all his actions but himself. He was the one who sparked the civil wars by organizing a coup to kidnap Unalaq, tried to involve Korra's father, (fortunately he declined), then when that was over, his next step is tech and weapons. He didnt saved the Asami's company, he literally bankrupt her to a point where Asami cant refuse his offer. So weapons to sell for the war, equals profit: check! Then next step is to involve other nations, and that is by convincing world leaders, first stop: President Raiko. How to pursuade the president? By propaganda! This is where Bolin comes in, to capture the hearts of the people of republic city in the hopes of pursuading the president. Unfortunately for varrick, this is where he failed. Nucktuck is not supposed to be just a movie. It's a whole marketing ploy. An investment of some sort. You see. Having the whole world being involved in the war is a big market for weapons and tech. He is a business genius. He is probably not an evil villain in the surface because of his eccentricity and comedic antics. But he is kinda selfish and mischevious manipulator if you think about it. 11:30 Honestly I feel like you are underselling Bolin a bit here, this might be a controversial statement but honestly throughout the show Mako might get more focus but I would call Bolin the more powerfull and skilled bender. He has the strength and power of an earth bender but he shows fare more agility and precision than any other earthbender we have seen, bar probably Toph. Mako in the meantime is not really anything special as far as firebenders go. Sure he is quick with his lightning but it does not pack anwhere near the punch of people like Azula or Ozai.

Yeah this show is about to get very anime. Cant wait til you move on to the better seasons. Season 1 of ATLA is generaly my least favorite but S2 of Korra is judt above it. But after this its all smooth sailin.

There was no point in Game of Thrones where Locke could reasonably have been mistaken for a good guy, as his mission to join the Watch in order to assassinate Jon was made clear (to most viewers anyway...) from the outset when he was given those instructions. 11:30 Honestly I feel like you are underselling Bolin a bit here, this might be a controversial statement but honestly throughout the show Mako might get more focus but I would call Bolin the more powerfull and skilled bender. He has the strength and power of an earth bender but he shows fare more agility and precision than any other earthbender we have seen, bar probably Toph. Mako in the meantime is not really anything special as far as firebenders go. Sure he is quick with his lightning but it does not pack anwhere near the punch of people like Azula or Ozai.
Spartan is clearly a black and white kind of person. If someone goes against his favorite character Mako he immediately starts hating. Spartan should understand that Mako is not the Zuko regen. He's not half the man Zuko was. Just let it go Smh
@@stwartic4296 Yeah, honestly im worried that he will not like the later parts of the series just due to Makos role. as you said, Mako is not Zuko, and as zuko grew more and more important, I kinda feel like Mako fell off to make room for more interesting characters.
When I describe Zuko words like true honour and redemption come to mind, in Makos case its just "Love interest"

I feel bad for Mako. He got his I told you so momoent figuring out who wanted to start a war but the moment he gets out of jail, he has to deal with Korra forgetting her memories.

Yeah this show is about to get very anime. Cant wait til you move on to the better seasons. Season 1 of ATLA is generaly my least favorite but S2 of Korra is judt above it. But after this its all smooth sailin.

Literally yes? Who cares if a character doesn't look or talk or act like your definition of what a human is?
The criteria is only based on how consistent that character is with their own core. Expecting characters to always act like humans or be "believable people" is an assbackwards way of processing art of any form.
@@vgfunman they don't need to act like a "human" (see Spock) but they need to be a character with motivations and in turn actions that align. when they act and believe in things one episode, then another episode act differently and seem to abandon values then it all feels hollow, unpredictable and disingenuous. this is inarguable psychology of writing
