My favourite moment is Trevor punching Dracula, and Dracula's reaction is "you must be the Belmont" - because only a Belmont would have the balls to just punch Dracula in the chin, lol I liked that weird spinny dagger thing he found despite how silly it is, because it adds to how skilled and knowledgeable he's meant to be - he not only knew what this obscure thing was, but he knew how to use it well.

I loved this show so much. The fight animations were a perfect blend of cool and selectively realistic. I’m glad you made this video acknowledging the little realism goblin. I have struggled with that goblin ever since I discovered channels like yours.
The thing is, all the combat has impact and physicality. And everyone is going for the kill rather than tapping blades, so it feels real in their world.
6:52 - I imagine that Alucard has inhumanly high pain-tolerance so blow to the crotch was ineffective. But blow to the head was probably even less expected at the moment and while in itself didn't hurt much, disoriented Alucard for a moment, creating an opening.
I watched it with my gf and we loved it, i never played Castlevania btw This series is so awesome, quick, has the ending, nothing unnecessary introduced, almost everything fits and has purpose It's just satisfying
The whole "letting the sword float real quick" actually remind me of real human, astronauts in microgravity doing similar things. And when they come back to earth, they're still not re-adjusted to gravity so sometimes they might do things like try to let a pen just float in front of them and look dumbfoled for a second the thing isn't levitating where they left. This is actually more "realistic" (verisimilar is the word here), than being "realistic", because we know even mere mortals can and have adapted to "superpowers".

If you can move that fast or with that much agility, why would you need to use something with massive slashing attacks? Quick short jabs with a rapier type sword would be most beneficial
@@widdershins5383 even if you can move that fast, isn't it faster to slash 40 guys with one big slash, than to jab 40 times? Or maybe you just don't want to look like a sewing machine. Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I think jabbing over and over again might be more exhausting than slashing. Not that it matters much in this case (these guys don't easily get tired in a fight), but do note with their agility they are quite good at targeting the soft bits of flesh (slicing throats of 'mostly armored' guys, for example) which I think requires less energy than piercing a ribcage and pulling the blade out, for example. Though I guess poking throats/jugulars with a rapier, as long as you don't hit the spine, would also be quite energy efficient.
@@Tennouseijin but it requires more finesse to show off your skill and speed to jab 40 times, besides then you get some variety. Stab some in the jugular, some in the femoral, a few straight through the heart, maybe one or two in the eye piercing the brain, maybe through the bottom of the jaw into the brain...variety lol
one thing I really love is how in the fights the characters personality shines trough. In most movies/series fights are just that, a fight nothing more, maybe a few words but nothing else.
Even after I learned about historically accurate and realistically feasible arms & armor, I still enjoy anime and fantasy stuff in general. Rule of cool and having things stand out for meme quality is part of the enjoyment, no matter how ridiculous things can get. I just prefer that things be what they are: don't put fantasy stuff in attempts at historical recreation, and don't be anal about historical/practical accuracy in a fantasy. It just depends on the context.
The reason for the headbutt vs crotch kick inflicting odd amounts of damage is in my eyes to show the different personalities of the characters, Trevor's got a knob for head and Alucard does not seem to be someone who thinks with his jewels. An interesting and comedic way to really embody their discrepancies imo.
From a different perspective, IMO that scene is done as a form of brick joke: in Ep1 Trevor got kicked in the balls (one or even twice?) which looked absolutely painful. Fast forward to Ep4 sword fight, Trevor finally got to kick someone else in the balls...which had zero effect.
I believe they said it was a direct omage. But yeah it was fantastic. I had chills when she said "day armor". I'm not really a berserk fan but I was hollering the whole scene.
The scene, where he blocks with both arms is demonstrating a common miconception about logic where there are fantasy elements. Something can be logical without being realistic. I always appreciate it, if things make sense within the rules that are set by the universe a story takes place in. It enables the viewer to think about what happens and anticipate events, strategies or actions. Basically, for me (as I like to think about potential outcomes and developments of the movies/series I watch) it allows for a deeper involvement of the audience. The opposite has similarity in character to watching a sports event without knowing the rules - you just would be less emotionally involved if you had less understanding about the reasoning of the players' strategies
I love how they animated the whips Trevor uses, how he uses his limbs to tweak the whip and snap it in a direction catching the things he is fighting off guard
Apparently the same studio said they would be interested in a Berserk adaptation, I would be so happy to see that instead of the abomination that is the 2016 anime
There’s also that scene in season one where Trevor lead peasants in killing demons where they use really good tactics including an improvised pike formation. Any thoughts?
The art style of this anime definitely have some big inspirations from "Kawajiri Yoshiaki" (Ninja Scrolls, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, X, Animatrix, Highlander: The Search for Vengeance). That's why it's totally fit Castlevania franchise & definitely one of the anime strongest point.
sadly no mentioning of my boy Isaac. This series has so many great characters but Isaac is my absolute favorite. killing multiple vampires with a dagger and a thorny belt... i wonder who would win between him and trevor in a battle with daggers or short swords. no fancy arifacts no demon raising magic, just speed, strength and skill...
Assuming Alucard and Carmilla are roughly on par, feats favor Trevor. He put up a really good fight against Alucard, whereas Isaac would've died a number of times without the aid of his demons (which he obviously was well aware of, hence their usage). Neither Alucard nor Carmilla are capable of taking on Dracula in a 1-on-1. The former was willing to try and duke it out, the latter wasn't - and Alucard's showing wasn't exactly bad, so I'd actually rank him slightly above Carmilla. Still, I'm hesitant to say Trevor would beat Carmilla without help; she looked fairly impressive considering Isaac's "plot armor". Overall, basing on these comparisons, I feel content in saying Trevor wins a straight-out duel. It won't be fast, considering Isaac's agility, but I don't see him struggling either. Give Trevor a whip and I'd wager he stomps. Isaac is impressive, but his biggest strengths don't exactly lie in direct combat ability.
The final Isaac fight against carmila is my favorite in the series hands down. One of my favorite animated fights ever properly. It's so satisfying, so filled with character and believable emotion. I am carmila of stirga and, F*CK Y0U
in my opinion the magic is the most fluid and custom its ever been, this series is constantly evolving with different spells and application. SO GOOOD.
7:55 I like fights that show that the characters involved are not just dumb meatheads and the one who wins the the one who screams louder. Especially in fantastical fights with supernatural powers, it opens up so many ways to work off those powers and counter what the other person is doing. It doesnt need to be super realistic or even make that much sense, as long as it all comes together in the end (e.g. JoJo's bizarre adventures: great fights with interesting gimmicks, but also batshit insane xD)
Oh man, it’s so good! I was re-watching all of the Spawn animated series when I saw this video yesterday and have been binge watching since. I sure am glad I saw this video, thank you!
9:17 it's actually inspired by the haladie, an ancient double bladed dagger that was used as a weapon of war by the Rajput clans of India. When I first saw it I was immediately delighted to hear Trevor mention them to Sypha while explaining the origin of the weapon
The cross could _partially_ work with triangular cross-section blades, nested sliding rings and a lot of careful grinding and painting. It is drawn with a line along the ring and different patterns for the two blade axes which fits this idea but it has too many ridges to actually fit together. Instead of locking it could rely entirely on rotational inertia but that would require you to always move it in the same orientation around the sliding axis. Still no idea how to actually grip and wield it in a useful manner and the geometry required for overlapping the blades actively contradicts using them as airfoils to control the flight path when thrown.
I had only heard the name "castlevania" before, i didnt even know what it was before i started watching the series, getting to know that there was a whole lot more around it. The story series was amazing and i hope it doesnt get watterd down like so many series does because of its success. Even better as a WOW player right now, i get to play in that setting in the current raid that is out, Castle Nathria, only his name is Sire Denathrius and the theme of this raid is just spot on, when it comes to the "vampire elite, goth" style.
@@fenorlex1126 I did at first, but they bungled the story so much, that it has become a canon unto itself. Just refer to it now as "Warrenvania," and dropped all expectations. So far, shutting my brain off had made it slightly more tolerable.
@@fenorlex1126 I did. Castlevania games originally had little to no actual lore. People are exaggerating with negative reactions to this show's storytelling.
@@pvshka If the show had been really true to the games, they would have had the protagonists visit all the locations from the later seasons in the first but be unable to enter because they didn't have the key or ability to get in yet. Season 3 would have been backtracking only!
The "combat cross" is actually a combination between a haladie and a chakram, but i've been thinking about it for a while and so how it would work from a mechanical standpoint is that the second semicircle would slide out of the first semicircle, the second semi circle would simultaneously pull the top inner blade behind the top outer blade to a stop gap at the middle of the first semicircle, while letting half of the second semicircle slide through the bottom inner blade, then when the middle stop gap of the second semicircle comes in contact with the bottom inner blade, it stops sliding through it and starts pushing it, and so the upper tip of the second semicircle locks in the guard of the top outer blade completing the fully extended form. but you might ask, well then how does that accommodate the triple blade form? so as i mentioned earlier the top inner blade actually slides across the first semicircle, meaning it can move independently without moving the second semicircle and it just needs its own independent force to push it outwards, the two studs on the hilt of the dagger, i believe are used to lock it into fully extended mode/reverse, and the second stud is used to lock the top inner blade within the two positions here is an image to help you visualize the process: twitter.com/powerhouseanim/status/1414283554217938944

If he gave it a wrist flick and pressed the 'free rotation' button, it could spin on that axis for a while. Some dwarven level of craftsmanship seen here.

The Dracula vs Alucard detail is another nice touch because Dracula probably doesn't even realise he's doing it. In the first fight he was still raw from his wife's death and was mostly together. By the time of the second fight, his mentality has changed a lot and he's almost suicidal in some ways. So he's probably unconsciously giving Alucard more chances to kill him, or at least there's a part of him that doesn't want to actually kill his last living family.

6:52 - I imagine that Alucard has inhumanly high pain-tolerance so blow to the crotch was ineffective. But blow to the head was probably even less expected at the moment and while in itself didn't hurt much, disoriented Alucard for a moment, creating an opening.
Also pain resistance isn’t the same as concussion resistance. Regular old pain is a way different experience to having your brain rocked

This series is so awesome, quick, has the ending, nothing unnecessary introduced, almost everything fits and has purpose
It's just satisfying

One of the reasons why the fights in _Dragon Ball Super: Broly_ were so engaging.

@@joniwesslin1494 Yup that’s it
Season 4 has really fallen apart. This show used to be amazing, but now it kind of sucks, honestly.
The fighting in this series is so good I forget realism is a thing. That's when you know you have a good series
Least realistic thing in the entire show is the sword familiar ACTUALLY BEING HELPFUL
Level that bad boy up to 99 and it’s a decent enough melee weapon
The Day Armour scene is AMAZING.
I hope they get Berserk’s rights xD
I believe they said it was a direct omage. But yeah it was fantastic. I had chills when she said "day armor". I'm not really a berserk fan but I was hollering the whole scene.
with how good castlevania is, i have full faith that this team could do justice to a berserk adaptation
I like how with the morning star he needs to build momentum to bring out its full power. Looks really cool with that style of weapon
Apparently the same studio said they would be interested in a Berserk adaptation, I would be so happy to see that instead of the abomination that is the 2016 anime
Berserk sucks, no thanks. Glad it will never be finished. Time for you fanatics to shut up about it. Tired of hearing about it.
I mean, day armor scene is like "we can't have Guts in berserk armor, so we have vampire amazonian woman in day armor"
There’s also that scene in season one where Trevor lead peasants in killing demons where they use really good tactics including an improvised pike formation. Any thoughts?
The axe wielder viking teleporting vampire is a mix between Kratos and Noctis. I really liked that.
"And if you have watched it--do it again."
My goodness; what an idea. Why didn't I think of that?
Isaac is awesome, yeah. I just like too many characters... Alucard, Sypha, Isaac, Hector, Striga, etc. :)
Pretty sure that Trevor is superior in pure combat. Isaac relies heavily on his lads
You know what? I can't decide. Their feats stack up and I don't have a clear picture on who would win. I guess Trevor due to his experience?

"The what are you doing step bro" moment was... Well I really don't know what to think about that.
Oh man, it’s so good! I was re-watching all of the Spawn animated series when I saw this video yesterday and have been binge watching since. I sure am glad I saw this video, thank you!
🤣🤣the Alucard slaying the voice of conscience made my day 🤣🤣
9:17 it's actually inspired by the haladie, an ancient double bladed dagger that was used as a weapon of war by the Rajput clans of India.
This is probably one of the best examples of high quality animation that any production company has ever put out.
I see how Trevor "operate" his whip, like those Shaolin's monk .
When even the German-Canadian history nerd is satiated by the rool of cool, you know you’ve done a good job.

@@fenorlex1126 I did at first, but they bungled the story so much, that it has become a canon unto itself. Just refer to it now as "Warrenvania," and dropped all expectations.

The "combat cross" is actually a combination between a haladie and a chakram, but i've been thinking about it for a while and so how it would work from a mechanical standpoint is that the second semicircle would slide out of the first semicircle, the second semi circle would simultaneously pull the top inner blade behind the top outer blade to a stop gap at the middle of the first semicircle, while letting half of the second semicircle slide through the bottom inner blade, then when the middle stop gap of the second semicircle comes in contact with the bottom inner blade, it stops sliding through it and starts pushing it, and so the upper tip of the second semicircle locks in the guard of the top outer blade completing the fully extended form.
but you might ask, well then how does that accommodate the triple blade form? so as i mentioned earlier the top inner blade actually slides across the first semicircle, meaning it can move independently without moving the second semicircle and it just needs its own independent force to push it outwards, the two studs on the hilt of the dagger, i believe are used to lock it into fully extended mode/reverse, and the second stud is used to lock the top inner blade within the two positions

I only recently learned of gravity knives.
