Sure, but google watches work better on certain phones and not on others to the point they just tend to disconnect from time to time, making them a hassle. Samsung watches have way more features if you pair them with other Samsung-phones. There's just way less variables if you stay within 1 ecosystem, be it Samsung or Apple, which makes different appliances work way better together.

As an Apple user, I don't understand why ANYONE would defend Apple in this. If they lose, then everyone wins, no matter what devices you are using. No matter what you are using right now, you are already being punished and paying more because of Apple's practices. Their price hikes lower the bar for everyone to pay more. Think about the price hike in the last iPads, for example. Tests (including ones on MKBHD's channel) showed m2 was slower in some aspects and yet we're now conditioned to pay more for the same product. Apple Pay is also funnelling their money from every transaction happening on the planet. I will keep using iPads to paint, but I hope they are forced to change their ways because of this.

Capitalism requires functional markets, it requires competition. And therefor it requires antitrust regulations.
And Apple is running afoul of this antitrust legislation.
You are defending Apple's right to create a product as they envision it. But Apple is killing lots and lots of potential innovation from other companies by being a gatekeeper and keeping anything that could potentially compete with their products, off the market.
And you, as a consumer lose out, along with those (potential) companies.

10:17 That (games being malware) is categorically incorrect, and can never be the case with game streaming. Because none of the game code is running on device and only the video is being streamed to the device, it can do no harm to the user. The concerns are exactly the same as videos on Netflix, prime etc. or eBooks on kindle - content moderation. Which Apple doesn't do.
The reason they actually don't want it to happen is:
    1. They don't get a cut of all the games if they were individually downloaded.
    2. Easy to move to a different platform if all your services are in cloud or highly unified. E.g. Xbox cloud gaming, super apps.

13:32 That's exactly why Microsoft was sued - you're not allowed to use your monopoly position in one market (desktop OS) to gain ufair advantage and crush competitiors in others (internet browsers). The same thing with smartphones and smart watches

Microsoft was a true monopoly with 93% of the market in the late 1990s. Apple is not even close to being a monopoly with 20% of world smartphone market. To be considered a monopoly a company must have upwards 90% market share, otherwise they are just a competitive company. To the extent the government continues to use the nonsense logic that Apple is a monopoly, the will lose this case. This battle was already fought in the Epic case, and Apple won easily.

Apple has gotten away with making hardware with fewer features at comparable pricepoints purely because of their walled garden approach to their ecosystem. If people could buy any brand they wanted and they worked together fine, Apple would actually have to innovate, make better products, and be more price competitive. Their computers with the M chips are probably the only products they make that actually compete at their price point feature to feature, performance to performance. This type of suit is good for consumers including ones that only use Apple stuff.

Apple's identity as a system that 'just works' is predicated on their insanely petty nature of hamstringing hardware and software to not work (well) with anything else, then blaming it on Microsoft or non-Apple manufacturers. Remember how sending a file to Windows required the 8.3 naming scheme more than a decade after Micosoft had stopped using it? Sometimes I'll look back and see promising products pulled from the market because certain features didn't work that well on Apple at any rate, while knowing it was more likely Apple screwing with them. It's an ethics/intent issue IMO. It's fully in a company's right to make their products work/play better in their ecosystem compared to others ecosystems. It's not right when you deliberately make a competitor's product not work well in your ecosystem by limiting features/performance and not providing clear context to the consumer beforehand. It needs to be clear to consumers that Apple is deliberately limiting features/performance of competing products, rather than it seeming like an issue with the non-apple product itself. That's an issue of defaming the competitor and bolstering opinions and perspectives of your products (Apple's) in the public eye.

25:30 I think this take about NFC and Apple wallet from David is from an American perspective.
    1. In most countries, Apple wallet straight up doesn't work.
    2. In many countries, apps like Google pay, Samsung Pay, etc. have tap to pay through NFC options. NFC can be turned on through the Quick settings. While Iphones don't have a NFC toggle, they have a scan nearby devices toggle, hence if you have an iphone, you can't tap to pay in any app other than the Apple wallet. Basically you have NFC on your phone, the hardware is there, Apple won't let you use it with other apps. It's crazy but considering it's Apple, the greediest company in the world, I'm not surprised.

I have to admit that I never really got the MS argument when the DoJ was going after them. As an Apple user I was pleased that MS had their monopoly broken (and as a side-effect bailed out Apple), but I didn't entirely understand the logic. I'm not sure I'm any clearer now - part of me feels that if a company's whole schtick is "it just works" (which let's be honest, it doesn't always!) then making their own hardware work better with itself makes sense. That said I don't feel that the Apple eocsystem would be significantly harmed by allowing a Samsung phone to airdrop to a mac, or an HP windows computer share its clipboard contents with your iphone. So, that'd be cool. The BIGGEST difference I would argue though, and here my Apple bias may show, is that back when Microsoft was broken up they had a dominant position (that dominant position still exists) but with seriously inferior software. That's not the case now - for the most part the various Apple OSs are as good as Android and Windows, so the case for knocking them off their perch is less clear to me.

Just FYI, in a legal sense, it doesn't matter if Apple now allows you to do something that you previously weren't able to do, if it is proven that at any point Apple didn't permit this with malicious intent then Apple is still liable to pay fines etc... I think that's a big area where the tech community doesn't understand why the DOJ is acting the way it is - because the DOJ is not looking to alter the most recent trends, but rather prove that Apple violated the law regardless of the point in time at which they did so. They may also make references to previous cases because of the precedent-based legal system in the US. In analogy, if, for example, a chemical company improperly disposed of waste then stopped, they would still be liable for the waste they disposed of improperly, regardless of the fact they have stopped doing it. I personally think the DOJ is acting now because they likely feel Apple's Masimo litigation has opened up the opportunity to put additional pressure on Apple.

I think looking at each of these "arguments" individually misses the bigger picture of everything together. If a smart watch maker wanted to make a compelling watch with nice features they could build in compatibility with their own app, or another "super app" that would allow their watch to make payments, send messages, do notifications, etc. By Apple denying access to SMS or other phone features from Apps and other devices they are reducing user choice and forcing them to use their app, their watch, their system.

I genuinely think all of these products should just be required to work with each other. An Apple Watch should work with an Android. A Pixel watch should work with an iPhone. The H/W chips should be available to other headphone manufacturers to add into their own products. Fuck these mega corporations artificially making our lives worse so we give them more money. This is what government is for. To protect the consumer.

If google makes a smartwatch they now have to code a version to maximize the android operating system as well as the apple operating system. It's not as easy as just making it work, they need different teams.

    • @richiemohanty5107
      @richiemohanty5107 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@iitzhasheemGoogle is a mega corporation that makes a smartwatch. Let that be Google's headache. Smaller companies like Garmin already do that. If it means more choice and more genuine competition, then the ultimate winner is not Apple or Google but the consumer. Google has more than enough resources to manage two teams, especially when companies like Garmin already do it. Same goes for Apple. All of their limitations are artificial and it's good someone is finally going after the tech cos.
