I didn't know Busoni transcribed that piece, I love it! My ringtone is from the organ mass, which I learned from Gerubach, may he rest in peace. His passing is a reminder that your work shouldn't be taken for granted. I've learned a lot, I've experienced a lot from you and I thank you with all my heart. There's no single objective answer to that question.

While I think, the Prelude has to be played (and heard) on the organ, I'm surprised how amazingly well the piano version of the Fugure sounds. On the organ the fugue is unfortunately quite often just a "sound soup".

There are parts of the prelude that sound perfect on the piano, and the fugue is great on the organ if you can find a recording with low reverb.

I love the piece, but when I was listening to my video based on an organ recording recently, I wished I could hear the polyphonic lines more clearly, and since my wife prefers the piano over the organ, I decided to make one based on a piano transcription. Like you, I like Busoni's take on the fugue better than what he does in the prelude, but I think I could be much happier with a piano version of the prelude if it weren't so over-stuffed. (I was also a little disappointed that Busoni chose to cut out a section of the prelude.)

man this piece is so fun but I hate the ending so much, it feels like he kills all the momentum at the end (it's busoni's fault not the performer)
