    I heard this piece the first time in St. Catherine's Church, Frankfurt. To me this was a key step in realizing how great this man really was. People left the church with big smiles on their faces and a guy in front of me was quietly whistling the last fugue theme.

    You worked quick! I immediately recognised this recording from the Netherlands Bach Society. 9 days ago, and here you are! Nice job!

      I’d heard the prelude many times over the years, but it wasn’t until I heard van Doeselaar’s thrilling playing that I knew I was going to make an animated graphical score for it.

      @@alexanderbayramov2626 People have suggested that, but the process is pretty boring to watch ... just me sitting at a computer. What's interesting is what's going on in my head. If you're curious, I've written some things about that ... e.g. www.musanim.com/Method/ and www.musanim.com/Organisme/

    This new technique with glowing notes is fantastic and fits so well in prelude, feels quite 'synaesthetic' which is unusual

    I am so glad you posted this, I have been waiting for ages. Probably my favourite organ piece along with Bach's passacaglia and one of my favourite compositions by Bach obviously.
    I remember watching a docummentary about Bach and get fascinated by Glenn Gould playing the first main section of the fugue. It wasn't until a bunch of month or a couple of years after that I managed to actually find the piece. That felt like a blessing.

    Awesome! The continuing reinvention is constantly refreshing the whole image and concept together. I especially love the new shell-like symbol (I can't remember if it is a conch shell or a nautilus shell) that bulges from left to right. This is such a massive piece; you must have been exhausted by the time you finished. Kudos! Great job. Thank you!

    I read in Aaron Andrew Hunt's post that the transition at bars 175-176 bothers him which I find an interesting criticism
    8:18 is the moment where that happens
    I am not sure if I agree but what he has to say is very interesting (he wrote it in his blog "Passages that bother me")

    • @micheal49
      @micheal49 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Y'know, it used to bother me, too.
      But then I gave it some chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk. Now, it pretty much leaves me alone. It just sleeps under the couch mostly. Now it only bothers me when it gets hungry.

      I always found it genius. Like telling the audience: "Happy with that? You're forgetting I'm Bach and this is a structurally perfect prelude." and then bam.
      The grandiose gets you off guard, but it still makes sense.

      Nobody says you have to like it. However, many people, myself included, DO find Steve's animations unique, interesting and a great way to visualize the music of Bach and many other composers. Heck, one visitor has even commented that Steve's videos have served to turn their children on to Bach's music, and if that isn't a great thing, I don't know what one is. So, if you don't happen to like these videos, there's plenty to see on TH-cam. There is also no need for you to trash Steve's hard work publicly - if it isn't your cup of tea, just move on to something you do like.
