    Shannon - I have had countless projects at my home and although I usually feel confident, you have always provided reassurance to me in the process. I have tackled several projects just because of you. Your teaching is fantastic, informative and you always explain the things that worry me. Your shower surround video, specifically the drain adjustments, cutting, measuring, etc helped me today. Thank you!

    Much appreciated this informative video. I'm putting in a Maax three-piece shower, very similar, and using the same drain I think (BMI #01824). Your video cleared everything up for me!
    One tip I can add: for screwing in the top half of the drain, a short piece of 1x3 board (finished dimensions 3/4" x 2 1/2") locks in there perfectly.
    I'm going to follow the instruction, not put silicone sealant on the underside of flange of top piece, but will monitor closely, hopefully ok. I get the sense the top piece completely "funnels" into the bottom piece, within that underside gasket. I hope...

    the cardboard ring,,which is often silicone instead, serves as a slip gasket to prevent the rubber gasket from wrinkling during the tightening process. always leave it in place.

    • @Didleeios88
      @Didleeios88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering about that. I was worried that it might come into contact with the water but it looks like it's sealed pretty tight. And it is only needed during the tightening then even if it does dissolve later it's no loss.

    Need to put a rag down in the drain before doing any cutting work inside the pipe.. one time I was cutting off a pipe with that drill saw and the chuck came loose and the bit fell into the pipe... in a 3in pipe it slid down to the seam... had to use a heavy magnet to extract... real pain it was... always good to rag it....

    Just a little heads up for homeimprovements, when cutting the shower drain height you used the perfect cutting tool. Next time do not take the stall out, just cut the pipe with the cutter FROM THE INSIDE what is was made for or have you figured that out by now.

    I love your videos. They are so informative and easy to follow. I have a more specific question for installing a fiberglass corner shower in a tiny house on wheels. Would you recommend lining the floor/walls with a cement shower pan or cement board to prevent any leaks from any cracks that may occur? I'm trying to err on the side of caution for all scenarios. I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks so much

  • @MrGraygrizz
    @MrGraygrizz 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shannon there is an easier to install, heavy duty, shower stall flange available, that is brass, (a little more pricey), but you can install is from the top, making it so much more easier to do....Oakley makes it, and it screws down from the top, compressing a large rubber seal onto the 2" pvc shower pipe that was roughed in. You still have to carefully figure/measure the height to cut off the 2" pvc pipe, like you did, but there is not gluing needed with this flange.

    Are all drains on showers usually abs? Nice job and and detailed explanation. Ive been watching your videos for years you are a jack of all trades. Are you a licensed plumber? Around here you could be fined for doing this without a license and leaving evidence of it on the internet...

  • @NHPlumber
    @NHPlumber ปีที่แล้ว

    Very informative. The only issue I saw was with gluing the drain on. You should always apply glue to the pipe and the fitting. Also, I am hoping that was glue and primer in one, otherwise that fitting will definitely leak someday. if you are not using a 2 in one (which I would never use myself) you must apply primer to the fitting/pipe and then apply the solvent (glue) to the pipe and then the fitting.

    • @johnjames77
      @johnjames77 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would not worry about using primer on a non pressure ABS fitting.

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The grout is only needed to help support the floor of the shower and keep it from flexing. So really it depends on the shower you have purchased. Check the installation instructions that came with the unit.

    Shannon, GOOD video! Thank you.
    Just bought a Maax US36 and for the life of me, cannot locate their installation guide. Have a call into them but their website is difficult to navagate. Maybe because I’m in the US? :) Yours brought light to problem.
    There is a 1” +/- lip in the front, and funky plywood at the corners for plumbing & leveling, I got that thanks to your awesome video.
    In my opinion, there needs to be mortar under the floor foundation of the stall.
    Here’s the problem when the stall is plumb & level while dry fitting, when I installed the drain, it sits 3-4 degrees out of square with the stall. Is that normal or just a flaw.
    Hopefully I’ll get a quick response from Maax technical!

I went to the store to get one replaced but can't find a replacement. They all have different threads.
