    I've seen 3 X 2 used to catch the snots. But drilled holes with rope sash cord and knotted underneath through it so it rests on the ties and you build up then pull the timber up as you go. Quick scrape down next set of ties and a course then timber goes on those.. Rinse and repeat. It's probably easier to pull your U channel up as you go.. Worth a thought though

    Keep the focus on quality, don't let quantity get the better of you. As for your snot catchers, round the corners, and cut the end and bend the sides in slightly - That should stop the trays from snagging on and bricks. You could also tie the string such that it fixes to both sides of the try (like a Y shape) and then cut an inch or two out of the base at the end, that way when you pull on the string it will pull the sides inwards slightly (hopefully minimising it snagging)

    Try gluing the snot catchers, plenty of powerful glues out there now save snagging on screws.

  • @jn1ty
    @jn1ty 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I would try making the front of the catch like a boat bow. If the front is square it can catch as it is pulled out. Maybe a piece of wood or steel to keep the shape and something to screw to and hook your rope onto. Good luck.

Back in the day, it would have been a 6ft length of 2x2 with a short length of rope (Blue Cord) on each end ... Pull it up every time you get to a new tie level ... after the next course lay the 2x2 on the ties and away you go till the next tie level
    You should be able to drill a hole in YOUR channels and attach some rope with a knot underneath
    Why only 6ft long ? ... so you can pull both ropes at the same time ... save asking for help

    I think the cavity cleaner needs lifting up every time you fix a row of ties and should sit on the new ties. Years ago when cavity ties were rigid butterfly ties (before timber frame), bricklayers could only build 900 high before having to switch to the other leaf and the cavity batten was used to sit on eack row as they built to stop snots dropping down. Also, that 13" trowel doesnt help on a narrow cavity when you try and scrape the back
