In my truck driving years before I officially retired I was told by a mechanic where the vehicle was serviced that when starting the vehicle to depress the clutch which in turn helps the starter spin the engine and thus uses less power from the batteries, I have done this ever since even with my petrol car.
Yes, the layshaft constantly turns & if the oil is cold & thick it can make a difference. Let the pedal up as soon as the engine has started so the gearbox can lubricate itself before you ask it to do any work.

Happy birthday jack 🎉 I am a truck mechanic in the UK, even new batteries can be problematic. I literally fitted a brand new pair to a truck today, and the trucks I work on (Renault) have a battery health meter/guage on the dash. Of the 5 bars (max health) only 3 were showing. They will come up and improve to full health when you use them and hopefully give you a few more years of trouble free use 👍

Not even talking if they had renew their camp reservation on the app with automatic validation 😆
Happy Birthday Jack hope you enjoyed your day. Another great video guys, you are such a lovely family , glad your making best use of your time with the kids making memories. David
Something else you could use to save batteries which is a different option than a solar charger to your vehicle batteries. Could use a battery auto power remote disconnect which means you can isolate battery connection without disconnecting them and therefore avoid any drain on the batteries x
Glad you got the new batteries in without any major issue. I wrenched my back removing my old solar batteries (5 x 55kg) so could feel your pain. I had a visit by the Swiss police one morning. It took them about 20 minutes of discussion and phone calls, but everything was okay in the end. Having a larger rig does present issues, but it does make travelling more exciting sometimes!

Hi, i enjoyed this video very much, its nice to see the place i grew up through different eyes. Too bad its all getting so expensive these days. When i was young, you could park and go so many places for free.
Like you said, he's had a bad time with someone he couldn't take his frustration out on and you were the next best option for a man child. I charge from my solar to my engine batteries which not only means being able to start the truck no matter how long I stay somewhere but it also increases the life of them substantially. Would recommend.
@@Touringwiththekids Same system, its just one of those smart chargers connected to my inverter that I run a couple wires from the living area so I can turn it on and off and see whats going on to the batteries under the truck.
Hi. Love the videos. I use a separate solar panel and solar charge controller on my vehicle batteries alone. This means they are always fully charged and charging whilst parked up. Never had a problem since but before I used a solar panel I was having problems. Now I don’t worry when parked up along time. Maybe this helps. Keep the videos coming x

I’d certainly get a meter on the alternator just to ensure it’s giving correct voltage. Could also slap a self adhesive solar panel on the cab roof just to trickle charge the starter.
I had a battery drain problem in my renault madter camper, it turned out to be an additional battery in the van that is charged from the main battery which powers the central locking system which i didnt even know existed in vehicles 😮

@@Touringwiththekids My son and I recently spend two weeks in Germany visiting various places and ending up in Berlin visiting relatives and buying some food stuff which I can't get in the UK. Like Rick said, I felt a bit ripped off.
@@davidmatthews3093 Why? My son and I stayed in Youth Hostels in Wernigerode, Dresden and Leipzig, drove a normal car and still were charge the tourist tax. The towns and cities only do that to raise some money.
Hey guys thanks guys for another video, not sure why you wouldn't simply do what has been asked🤔. But I do have a question...... I noticed you frequently take up multiple parking bays at your park ups do you pay for each parking bay you use up? Keep the videos coming.. safe travels.
Thank you for watching 👍 It depends on the conditions of parking. If it states pay per bay then yes we would, but most motorhome parking areas just charge a flat fee. A lot of motorhome aires also state a maximum length!
Belated Happy birthday Jack. My parents met someone like your angry German man when they stayed in the black Forrest too, wonder if it was the same one lol. Very beautiful scenery though.

A lot of places have a problem with vehicles overhanging their pedestrian areas. I wonder could that have been the problem? The barriers in the Air are a strong clue, but in places where there are no barriers, it can still be a No-No. Regarding the batteries, as long as they physically fit in the tray, a larger capacity is not a problem. Very important that they both have the same capacity, so always replace them as a pair. Keep a note of the original capacity, because you must never go lower than that. The original capacity should be regarded as the minimum spec. Anything larger is an upgrade. A crude, but useful, check you can do regularly, is to check the battery volts. The two batteries should be the same voltage, with practically no difference. That means if the total bank measures 26v, each individual battery should be 13v. If they’re starting to go out of balance, you need to find out why.
I don't think so, we weren't actually overhanging any pedestrian area and we are always cautious not to park in anybody's way. We were in the bay a metre each side and if he doesn't like people parking in that bay because it's near the service area, he really shouldn't have a bay there.
All these cable cars and train routes are so worth the money, also in Switzerland. It may seem like a lot of money but the experience is impossible to value in money! See Jungfraujoch in Switzerland by train from Interlaken area, so expensive but years later and still one of the best things I did, even though I went to China and Australia afterwards!
Remember you can get things delivered to lockers which are located all over the continent, very often at supermarkets, petrol stations and odd locations everywhere. I dont have the big truck but i do have a starter pack which will start a van from completely dead to start in about 5 minutes. Its saved me a couple of times. Donyou not have breakdown cover? Green flag or similar?

I charge from my solar to my engine batteries which not only means being able to start the truck no matter how long I stay somewhere but it also increases the life of them substantially. Would recommend.
That's the set up we might go for. Do you have a seperate solar panel and charger for the engine batteries? Or is it on the same system? Thanks 👍
Loved this video, Your relationship with your children is inspiring. Look out to visit Gengenbach. We're not far from you but your videos are a few weeks behind our travels. Would love to bump In to your guys one day.
aw thanks Clare, thats a really nice thing to say. Hope you are enjoying your travels too ☺️
@@Touringwiththekids we are day 5 in of 30, currently in Strasbourg. We did several weeks around the romantic road last year, but much layer in the year.
Ohh lovely, romantic road would be amazing around Christmas time I reckon ☺️ P.s. thanks for joining our Patreon ❤️ much appreciated!
good evening Kieria and Jack and Rich and Ted and the young girl and happy belated birthday I hope you are all well and enjoying your adventer in your motor home aboard
please keep safe and warm and please say hi to the kids and please keep up your good work on your TH-cam channel
Thanks so much ❤️
Hey yo you can win them all, I would have told him to do one lol - glad you finally got the batteries sorted, hopefully that’s the end of the issues with starting
Fingers crossed, all good for now 👌
What a lovely trip up that mountain something you guys can look back on in a few years
Really enjoyed your vid 👌
It was absolutely incredible that mountain!
❤❤❤ Absolutely!
I’d certainly get a meter on the alternator just to ensure it’s giving correct voltage. Could also slap a self adhesive solar panel on the cab roof just to trickle charge the starter.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK. YOUR CAKE LOOKS DELICIOUS.
Thankyou! It was actually a cake mix from a box as it’s so hard to find them in the supermarkets over here! But it was delicious 🤤
Hope young Jack had a fab birthday 🎂🎂I just love to see the kids having such adventures,.
Thankyou 👍 he had a great birthday. Can't believe he's 7 already!
happy birthday jack xxx from us all in stowmarket.
Thankyou! 😊❤️
I had a battery drain problem in my renault madter camper, it turned out to be an additional battery in the van that is charged from the main battery which powers the central locking system which i didnt even know existed in vehicles 😮
Happy Birthday, Jack.
I'm sorry that you guys made the experience with a rude German but I can assure you that the majority are very friendly and some are even friendlier than I am
Thankyou! We actually love Germany as a whole, just a shame about this experience 😊
@@Touringwiththekids My son and I recently spend two weeks in Germany visiting various places and ending up in Berlin visiting relatives and buying some food stuff which I can't get in the UK. I noticed that where ever you go they charge you now the blimming tourist tax. I remember the time when only seaside resorts did that. In some places you don't even get a ticket for a free bus ride. Like Rick said, I felt a bit ripped off.
@@hanshartfiel6394I blame people with camping cars.
You never know, could be! Other than that experience the Black Forest was brilliant, really enjoyed it there x
I hope you get a chance to see Poland. Start of in Wrocław, Jelenia Góra & Karpacz, Sniezka.
Travel east to Our Lady of Czestochowa, Krakow, Wieliczka Salt Mines. Then Zakopane on the Slovak border. Take the tram up to the top. Beautiful views! Can do the Dunajec River Rafting 10 per boat paddled by a local. Can see stork nests on cliffs.
I am glad you were able to get new batteries Just curious have you actually checked the batteries with the engine running to confirm the charge voltage Thanks for another great video
Yeah we’ve done all that 😀
Good video enjoyed this very much, thank you for sharing
Hello Folks,
I read a German news website every day and saw that the weather in parts of Germany and neighbouring countries is absolutely horrible at the moment and had to think about you guys. I hope you are alright and not stuck in the floods or even snow.
Thank you for thinking of us! We're all okay and now heading north away from the area affected by the floods. Looks really bad 😟
@@Touringwiththekids Try and stay on the western side of Germany as the East is having it bad as well. Cities like Dresden are experiencing floods and it's supposed to get worse over there
Happy birthday to jack hope he had a great day x
Thankyou x
Thoroughly enjoy this video x happy birthday Jack xx🎉😅🥳🍭
Aww I’m glad, thank you so much x
Happy Belated Birthday Jack!
Sounds like he took his frustration from both on to you!
thankyou x
@@Touringwiththekidsyour welcome! 😊
Happy birthday Jack x🎉
Thankyou so much x
Jacks comment “we’re all gonna die” nudged a fond memory of a family trip up the Blackpool tower lift, on a very windy day, my little brother asking my dad repeated questions about the lift banging and the cables snapping etc. By the time we got to the top,the packed lift which was previously full of calm adults at the beginning changed to stampeding panicked ridden mob by the time we got to the top as they all rushed to get out first 😂😂😂
Oh my gosh!!! Boys hey 👋 that’s hilarious 😆
Aww bless happy birthday Jack 🎉 hope you had a really nice birthday.

Hi guys love the video s you do Jack happy birthday big 7 now have a lovely week 😊😊😊😊

Happy birthday Jack ! x
Thankyou 😊❤️
Happy birthday to the young lad Jack.
Thankyou so much 😀
It won't have kept him happy if you were arguing with him , I would have just said sure no problem and moved.
But when we've paid and parked as indicated and correctly and not in anyone's way, he's just bossing people around for no reason. His land so we left the next day 👍
@@Touringwiththekids the problem is theirs no point arguing with him , as you said its his place so what can you do but move
Happy birthday Jack 🎈 🎉 Awesome family adventures 🫶🏻🥰🩵🏴
Thankyou so much ☺️
Awesome ❤❤
Oh wow just stumbled on your vlog & thought ooh I’ve seen that lorry. I was arriving at Wank as you were leaving. I managed to do all 3 cable car regions but I only pay for just one of me & it was still a lot. For 5 of you you’d need a mortgage 🤣🤑 look forward to following your travels.
Ahh that’s pretty cool! Doing all 3 must have been epic, but yeah we’d definitely need a mortgage haha 😝 thanks for following x
Happy birthday Jack!! Wank(en) means sway or totter. What the cable car would have done. :)
No, wank is most likely a local dialect. What you mean with swaying would be "wankeln"
Happy birthday Jack hope you had a great day
Thankyou, much appreciated 🎂
Happy birthday Jack. I think you made a mistake and argued having run campsites arguing is a no no if you had just moved you would have still been there. Point I am making is one should not argue with the owner.
Thankyou 🎂 We did move up as much as we could 👍
We must have just missed you, we was at landsberg on Monday night!! Enjoy 👍👍
Ah no way! It's such a beautiful place isn't it!
@@Touringwiththekids yes it is, there’s better places down there though, we were coming up from Mittenwald via Garmisch to landsberg then Nordlingen then Rothenburg!! Now home😤

Love the scenes in Southern Germany!❤
It’s such a beautiful area 😍
Guys Tom and Izy Lost in transit from uk there earlier this year at Wankhause 😏😂so funny but beautifull countryside great videos.Im a mechanic releived to see you finally got batteries was worried voltage surges would cause E.C.U. damage to lorry bud.Love your vlogs great familly all the best 👍👍👍
Great comment, thankyou! Glad you enjoy the videos ☺️
Absolutely correct he is the owner, his rules.
I believe you may find similar objections at private sites with a larger than normal conversions.
1 year down, and this is the only objection we have come across 👍
Happy Birthday Zack🥳
Thankyou! ❤️
Happy birthday Jack 🥳🍰🧁From Norway
Norway, we love Norway 🇳🇴 Thankyou!!! x
Can you not disconnect the negative lead off the batteries while parked up? Know it's a faff, but at least they won't discharge while parked up.
This is what I'm doing until back in the UK and can install an isolation switch 👍
Thanks for the tips r.e. the batteries 🔋
Very true, we would love to do that one in Switzerland. It does look amazing!
It sounds like your alternator is on the fritz so keep watching out for your batteries👍
