@@Karl-p6h I dont really understand what you mean the by first sentence about wages. if your implying that people working for wages or for a employer on a average wage cant get rich then i dont like your mindset and you are wrong. let me explain
you can easily buy an investment property while in your early 20s from borrowing money from the bank on a "Average wage" ($30 a hour) say the house is worth $500k for example, and you buy in the right place that has good capital growth?
in 1 year that property will rise a good $50k, not to mention its not costing you anything to pay the repayments, as your renting it out for income while still working your job for employer on $30 a hour...
5 years go by now.. now the house has positive equity, and you've paid a good 100k of the loan, now you buy your SECOND rental, with the equity the first home has equated. its a daisy chain, this can all be done for working for $30 a hour.
an yes I have done pretty well for my self. but i do not live in Dubai unfortunately

Would I do it again, absolutely, 100%. But it really is not for everyone. I had drivers come and say I'm thinking of getting my own truck and I'd say go for it, I'll help you where I can. They'd give it some thought and decide it wasn't for them after all. I was invariably happy because I knew they weren't cut out for it. It can ve pretty brutal at times.

Having done it for 13 years, I’m ready to go back to sitting at a desk, or at least not having to do physical labour any more! I’ve never regretted any career choice, and that is the attitude I think you should have. If it works for you, then do what you want. Izzy, that is the major problem with the building industry: full of blokes with fragile egos who make muggy comments like that. They crave belittling others to make themselves feel superior. You always see it in the comments: ‘do this’, ‘do that’.
These people pretend they’re happy - except they’re not. True happiness is when you help others and you enjoy seeing them succeed - not perceiving them as a threat. I can tell that you have that happiness and it elevates you higher than they’ll ever be.
Another thing people forget, is that you only have one life. It is up to all of us how we chose to live it and no one has the right to dictate our path. No one. Your family will be stronger than any brick you’ve ever laid fella. You’ve made the right call and I can only commend it 👏

I am a plasterer and being self employed, having refular customers like builders, kitchen fitters, landlords I end up chasing my tail working every Saturday because there's too much work coming in and you want to be ok with the good customer. But it's a one man show and it is sucking life and time out of me. What's more i can do most of the works on domestic site and usually to a good standard and because of thay i have to carry million of tools in my van, keep being asked if i fancy a job etc. The reason i keep doing it is the flexibility and money as i can push hard and make what is needed (however i am not for ripping people off so I am not a millionaire - far from it! Have to work every week). I had some guys working for me in the past but i didn't like it, all the hassle with fuckups, dealing with nonsense plus you loose your time flexibility when you are a boss. I have three kids still home so have to bring that money in but i keep exchanging my time and body strenght for it. That's a nature of being a man i guess. All the best to you mate. You've got a good insight - thanks for sharing.

I spent 8 years in retail which helped build my confidence in talking to strangers, but I worked too hard for no real reward, and nothing worthwhile to see for it. Now I see results, I make my customers happy by keeping their gardens looking nice. I very rarely advertise yet never have problems finding additional work, in fact it comes to me and that's the best way. Money has its uses, but it's certainly not everything, and I've never been one to chase it. You have the right attitude towards work and it's nice to see. Too many chase money only to realise at the end of their life that it was all in vain. Keep your life simple. Work to live, not live to work.

I'm a bus driver, it's the only industry I've ever known. I left school at 16 and went to work for Arriva Bus UK as an apprentice controller. Did that till I turned 20 and then made the move to bus driving. 8 years later, I am still driving buses. I have seen a whole host of drivers leave as they always seem to think, "The grass is greener." However, I stayed as I love my job. I love driving the bus and I am essnetially my own boss. I love interacting with passengers and helping make their day just a little better. What I'm saying is never follow the money or what others tell you matters. Could I have jumped ship and gone to drive an HGV a few years back. Yes, probably, but I love being on the buses. It's my career till I retire and I enjoy it. That's all that matters ! As my dad says, "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life"

Nice video. I myself am actually leaving the game altogether. I started in 2005, and after all these years I just want out. I’m currently self employed, and where I am it’s just become harder and harder. The scrutiny has become unreal. I mean we’re getting pulled for dusty ties up here, and I wish I was joking. So I’m going to save like hell, and then go do something else after the new year. All the best, Sir.

Dont do yourself down m8, I have seen to many brickies working on sites that couldn't live with you on the trowel and their work is nothing more than average. I was a decorator by trade but did many other things from building stud walls to plastering, even painted F1 car race trailers and fitted their insides out, I wish I had worked for the company I subbed the work from, my life would of been very easy. Do what you need to do mate and keep up the good work.

I was a Greenkeeper for 28 years. A few years before I left we got a new gaffer and the whole dynamic changed, also lost my Dad and it made me start thinking about lots of things. I had to make a change then or I never would. That's when I went to work at a builders merchants and taught myself bricklaying. Izzy, man you really have got your head screwed on buddy. I’ve worked a solo contractor for other people had my own gang for a while( grew to hate that very quickly) and ended up in a similar situation to where you are now. It’s about finding a job you enjoy and achieving goals by the end of the day. End up being a general builder who could prep group for concrete, pour and fin concrete, laying blocks and bricks to putting up joists and roofing. Loved it all hard work but helps make work day go quick and then home with no stress.❤

Good lad, you have a terrific attitude. I’m 71 and was self employed for almost 50 years (not in the building trade) and it is bloody hard. I was good at my job but not great as a ‘businessman’. In the end I became very ill, so keeping in touch with clients, and dealing with the ‘new breed’ of clients who had a different approach was really stressful. I was lucky that I was financially ok and so I drifted into retirement. I’m happier now than I have been for years…and I feel healthier too.

As someone who "worked for myself" for eight years as a translator, I can absolutely understand your desire for an easy life with not having to constantly find work.
I found that freelancing is best suited for those who genuinely enjoy the hustle and whose job plays a big part in their identity. Because if those things aren't there, it's just miserable: you do SO MUCH more work trying to find work than actually working, you have very little separation between work and your personal life, it's just exhausting.
I've always viewed work as just a tool that allows me to do what I love: travel, hike, explore, visit remote places. Ever since I started working as a mechanical engineer, it's been so easy: show up to work at 7:00 AM, work until 3:00 PM, home by 3:30, free weekends, paid time off, and my time off is TIME OFF, not "time spent thinking about how I'm going to find my next gig".

One of the best videos about life I have watched in a while. Your Granny was right. And let’s be honest, you were wrong …. You are a bloody good bricklayer.
And your video content is pretty good as well.
I spent many years as a senior manager and always had a few people in my team that I paid much more than I earned. Great people doing a great job are worth paying for. It’s nothing to do with “rank”.
Keep doing what you love, and if that changes over time, change to accommodate it.

You have absolutely made the right choice Izzy. You and only YOU know what is right for you and your wellbeing, and having a job to go to each and every day, with set hours and regular paycheques means yes you can get a life balance. You knock off at the end of each day, leave work at works doorstep, cross the threshold the following day etc. No worrying about where and when your next job is coming as was the case when you were self employed. You know your working week and hours, so can book your holidays and have a social life without the stress of wondering if a job comes along that would scupper any pre- planned holidays or events you were going to. Yeah mate right choice, can tell from your vids that you’re a happier more content person. All the best to you .

Business matters can be tedious and time-consuming, and fill your head with worries. That's no way to live.
