Kinda funny how life can be: here we see Bellof describing one of the most challenging, but also one of the most beautiful, racing corners in history, and in less than 24 hours this exact same corner should take his life, while fighting for another victory... ...Ruhe in Frieden Stefan, du bist leider viel zu früh von uns gegangen... (It really is a pain in my heart, that I was born to late to experience those great racing times)
@ MrObusk: He wasn't burnt alive. Yes, the car caught fire but he died of massive internal injuries from the head-on impact. I heard once that his femurs were driven up inside his torso. Horrible..... He was an absolutely brilliant driver, possibly the fastest ever. Too fearless for his own good though.
@Stickle Back Yeah and the move was stupid, sad but true, jochen mass (who was competing in the same race) has said in multiple interviews that the move wasn’t possible, and everybody that knows even just a little bit of racing knows that Ickx drove his line and wasn’t at fault
@@gehbehinderterWerkssoldat actually you are stupid in order to overtake here you have to stick behind another car for the straight it was racing incident
Que pena de su muerte. Este chico hubiera ido a Ferrari seguro en 1985. Hubiera sido sin duda campeon del Mundo de F1. Demostro sus manos en Monaco 1984 junto a Senna, cuando eran dos novatos.
@motorsportnutter4eva actually on the left hand side of the corner where they crashed it is very much the same and barriers are in the same place, only on the right side on the exit of eau rouge is it improoved and fully paved
Hard to believe that Bellof is describing the corner that would take his life in the race such a violent accident, he had no chance whatsoever. You can see on the outside of Eau Rouge there is zero runoff, not like now with massive tarmac aprons.
I'm not saying it was Ickx's fault, but it now appears Bellof better understood the mechanics of this turn and wanted to take it faster when he clipped Ickx's rear, and assumed Ickx would not be as hesitant.
it’s debatable who’s at fault but im gonna have to say it was Bellofs fault, even jochen mass has said in interviews that this maneuver wasn’t possible, Ickx simply didn’t expect for Bellof to try to overtake him in Eau Rouge, he drove his line and sadly clipped bellof sending him head on into the guardrails
No disrespect to Bellof, but my understanding of Eau Rouge in the days of Jacques Villeneuve ( “Going to the Gates” ) is of a right-left up the hill to Radillon. Still can’t understand how Bellof could have thought this was the place to try and overtake Ickx. The Rindt/Ickx understanding at Hockenheim in 1970 comes to mind - to avoid passing places that could most likely be fatal. Certainly the sad end of the most promising German of his generation. 🤔
These cars can follow very close he was probably trying to compromise ickx corner entry so he could stay in the draft of the faster factory engine. To ask whether a dead man made a mistake is pointless. Ickx did not leave space for two cars even though there was a car along his rear axle, this is the fact that every racer would like to ignore, even in modern racing. Any disrespect should be thrown at the Belgian with a body count.
He is describing the corner where he died, this is SAD.
R.I.P. Bellof
Verdade

A tragic and ironic interview, which I had not seen before.
This is sad.
He was a fearless driver.
It's a bit ironic that Belof is describing the place that he would die in the next day... so sad.
Never seen this interview must have been right before his tragic crash
rip stefan bellof :' (
@MrObusk untrue. he died from the impact immediately. The corpse didn't have any burns.
Estava apontando para onde iria morrer. A vida é muito louca 😢
He did a stupid move, but incredibly sad he passed away. Great talent.

was this like the day before he died?

@WatanukiF1 I agreed!!! That was a race of them!!!
Stefan Bellof era l'uomo che avrebbe portato in alto la Germania prima di Schumacher.!!!
@Robbbo64: thanks for the info.
still horrible though
RIP. Lord of the 'ring.

@skmetalhead16 hours before!!!
Teen Wolf Hazami Wolf Hits
He forgot to mention that it is a good place to try and pass around the outside
Maybe best ever
@SjonniTh :yeah right the bright side. he was burned alive.
2 wide through there isn't smart. Did he say, "from god"? 🏎 Fictional character
Damn you Ickx!!
Zen404 wasn’t his fault man. You don’t go inside right there. He should have filed in behind Ickx and tried his luck later in the race.
