Nice Job, Don. I just bought this unit for my 2019 Tacoma. It arrives tomorrow and I wanted to jump right in cleaning up all the wiring that some unprofessional professionals left excessed of tangled up under my hood. I've watched a few of the tutorials/reviews for this product and found that yours was presented the clearest and most helpful. Thank you, sir.
Just got done putting this switch in a 2022 refresh with the Duramax. Everything is the same, except getting through the firewall was a pain in the butt. The air intake tubes block it. Removed the first elbow, and access was still tight, but I got it... if you remove the back part of the intake hose, it wouldn't be too bad, but that seemed like it would be more trouble than it was worth. Oh, and finding the wire was a little challenging in the cab. I don't know if the 2022s have more sound insulation, but I had to dig for it.

Using the 30 amp switch right next to it ??? Lastly, do you connect the power leads that come with wiring harness for the light bar or just burying them ? Thanks Don J
very good step by step explanation - question? the ignition/accessory switch wire - where would I connect it since I can't do your option where you spliced into a red wire? I have 2024 GMC Canyon elevation - please advise
Great video instruction. I see that you connect the remote wire to the ignition. Does that mean you can only turn lights on when the ignition is in "on" position? If so, is there a way to bypass that and give you the ability to turn the lights on without turning on the ignition?
Prefer the replaceable relay version, easier troubleshooting. Also if relay fails you can swap positions to put the circuit back in operation. Relays fail, I like the option to replace. I would not like to replace the whole relay power unit because (one) potted relay failed. They should keep the previous (old) form factor and add the RGB/Blue-Tooth features. Don, great videos. If I power off the vehicle “cutting power to accessory wire turning off the unit” if I turn my car back on without turning the switches off first will the buttons that were on. Will it come back on when you start? Or do you gotta turn them back on every time
The switch is designed to turn on and off with an ignition or accessory trigger. You would need to turn the connected device on again after the panel loses power. You can likely do some creative wiring outside of how the manufacturer instructs the installation. Going this route you can forgo using a switch altogether and just use a relay.
@@Donslife hold on I think we might not understand eachother, let’s say switch 1 is on currently, you turn off ur truck without turning off switch one. the device looses power, turn ur truck back on, will switch one also come back on or do you gotta press the button again.
@@uniteddrones7626 sorry! Shutting of the vehicle resets the panel to ‘off’ for all the the connected devices. You have to repress each item or group you have programmed to turn things back on.
So I'm wondering if I can cut the switch controls off and tap my DRL so they can work automatically? Then make everything automatic except things like light bars that are not for road use! Maybe i just need to find a way to split or separate the switch controls wire. Great videos keep up the great work!
I was looking to use this panel to run white/Amber pod lights. Would I be able to have 2 switches control each color of the light (set one to run solid white, the other strobe Amber). Would I have the jump the ground between the two switches? Thank you.
I have a newer light bar with amber and white DRL’s. They are hooked up to 3 switches. One for each color and the lightbar array itself. Works wonderfully. You should be able to run each positive wire to each individual switch too.
Great Video! Thank You, with the RC Light that comes with three position switch, is it okay for the DRL and the flood to be on at the same time? is it really okay to eliminate relays and fuse holders and tap straight in with this unit? thanks
Thanks! I have looked into the flood light and DRL being on at the same time couldn't get a straight answer. The most of have learned is that it won't hurt it in the short term. The flood light drowns out the DRL too. Each Auxbeam switch has it's own fused circuit and relay so yes, you can eliminate the ones that came with the light bar.
I have the Chevy 1500. You used a existing fuse tap. Which fuse number would you recommend to tap into? Engine bay fuse number or passenger side fuse panel number?
Great vid. Do you know the power the panel uses to operate itself? Like standby power when all the circuits are turned on but no accessories actually drawing power? I have a different panel that draws 1a constantly just to have switches in on position. It’s a bit of an issue and I need to find new panel. Thanks
Can you turn the pod light on without the ignition on or no? And if yes, how do you wire where the pod light can turn on without the ignition being on and would it drain battery? Thank you
Yes, when the truck is turned off the panel will lose power too and shut off all accessories connected to it. I chose to wire it up this way. In a later video, I added a remote to be able to turn the panel on and off independently of the truck. Adding a Wireless Remote For My Accessories! th-cam.com/video/aV7ey5415dI/w-d-xo.html
Great video. I have a question. Can it be operated via Bluetooth with the ignition off? I camp in the middle of nowhere and if something is stirring around camp I would like to be able to "Light up the night". Thanks
I just got to the part of the video where you said you have a compressor under your hood? I know I didn’t hear that wrong because I even ruined it in. Heard it again, lol. Do you have a video showing the install of your compressor?
There are a couple related to it. Here is the main one : How to Install a Wireless Compressor for your Air Suspension th-cam.com/video/pLCIiavqKtE/w-d-xo.html
Nice video 👍 If my light bar needs 35 amps (420W on 12V) and the switch panel only has up to 30 amps, how would i wire the original harness with a 40 amp relay into the auxbeam switch panel? Would that work? Thanks.
You would hook it up with 40amp harness/relay as per the lightbar manufacturer’s instructions and just use the Auxbeam as a switch. You could use a 5A circuit just for switching the 40amp relay on and off
Please someone help been trying to find this information everywhere. I have auxbeam light bar that has a power button and a toggle button to switch from white amber both and stobe would this allow me to turn them on and switch in between the different modes? Thanks
It would have to have each feature (wire) hooked up to separate switches on the Auxbeam panel instead of using the switch it came with. Then you would program each switch to behave how you want it to (on/off, momentary or strobe)
@Donslife would I be able to switch in between the different color modes I don't know if I explained it right. Have a switch with 2 buttons one is on/off the other switches in between white, amber, white and amber then white stobe Amber strobe and white and amber strobe. Thanks for ur info and time.
So, theoretically, would I be able to run this purely from my phone without installing the switch panel? I'm looking at getting these for my RHD Jeep so I can finally get some strobes on it, but not super keen on the idea of tearing the dash apart to run the wires. Great video, super informative!
great video, have a question.. I install the one thats not compatible with the app. if i get the one with the APP do i have to chasnge just the control pannel?
Good question, as far as I know the control panel that goes in the vehicle is what ‘talks’ to the app. So as long as the switch box is compatible with a Bluetooth capable panel at a later time, I think it would work. I would ask Auxbeam to be sure just in case the physical connections vary. To be fair, I only installed the one panel and haven’t had experience with their other switches/panels
Don - loved the video and the step by step install directions. My AR-800 arrived yesterday and followed your video and the supplied installation brochure supplied by Auxbeam. Unfortunately, despite everything being hooked up correctly I cannot get the control box to turn on and illuminate. I tried to reach Auxbeam for assistance but to no avail, and they don't have any Q&A or Troubleshooting links on their website, or none that I could find. My 2016 Toyota Tundra has LOW PROFILE mini fuses, so I used the supplied fuse tap, which is designed for mini fuses, and replaced my 10 amp low profile mini ignition fuse with a 10 amp mini fuse. The supplied fuse tap seems to fit fine into my truck's fuse box, and even with replacing the truck's 10 amp low profile mini fuse with a 10 amp mini fuse the truck started up just fine. I haven't hooked up any accessories yet, but one would conclude the control box should display it is receiving power with or without any attached accessories. Do you think the issue is using a fuse tap with mini fuses instead of LOW PROFILE mini fuses? Any troubleshooting ideas?
Sorry just saw this message. TH-cam flagged it as spam. Have you tried bridging the trigger wire to the main power lead just to test it out for power. That small trigger wire is on a two prong pin. Maybe the other side is live. Just making guesses in the dark
gotcha, but to confirm no way to dim the actual lights outside of the vehicle? I have Baja S2s on my roof rack, but at night camping it would be nice to dim them from being too bright
Hey Don, a little curious when you are speaking about the "App" and choosing the Colors. Are the Colors associated to the Buttons on the App or colors coming out of your Lightbar?
I am leaning towards Auxbeam > more expensive options but I don't like that I have to turn my IGN on to power up my accessories. Is the app control also dependent on IGN being on?
Fair point. You can wire up the switch panel to constant too. Really up to you…….or you can add a diode and a remote switch like I did in the video. Now I can sit by the campfire and turn the switch on remotely, while controlling all the gadgets. (For example) 😊 Adding a Wireless Remote For My Accessories! th-cam.com/video/aV7ey5415dI/w-d-xo.html
If I have lights that I would like functioning while the ignition is off, does this switch Bank drain the battery if the accessory wire is hooked up to a power source that isn't ignition dependent?
It will drain a little power to illuminate the LED backlights for the panel if the remote wire is connected to an ‘always hot’ source. I left my panel powered up overnight and my vehicle wasn’t really drained. Over a few days it could be a problem. You might want to do something like this : th-cam.com/video/aV7ey5415dI/w-d-xo.html
Depends where you attach the remote turn on wire. I did a follow up video here with a wireless remote turn on option. th-cam.com/video/aV7ey5415dI/w-d-xo.html
@@Donslife I was thinking of wiring in a normally closed relay and using the switch to turn it off. But was hoping maybe it could be an option in the upgraded one to just be normally closed vs open. Thanks
Nice video! Does the controller lose memory of the switches that were on after an ignition cycle from on to off to on again? Engine cooling fan for example should have immediate power without having to turn a switch on each time you start the vehicle. Thanks in advance
When the ignition is turned off the devices it controls turn off too. When the first ignition is on again, the devices need to be turned back on manually but they will stay programmed as groups and/or pulse, toggle and momentarily mode if you set them up that way. I installed a remote control circuit with a diode so I can keep the switch on without starting the truck too.
A+ work as always! If mine wasnt a lease id consider doing alot of your mods. Have you considered installing the sierra sportsbar from the 16-19 all-terrains? I swapped mine over but on the x-31 package not the at4. Ive had many compliments and would def look good on the artic white!
Gm had a factory sportsbar they offered on the 16-19 all-terrainX packages. I kept mine when i sold the truck and put it on my next one which was the '21 new body style.
Box cover definitely wont work. I had to do a bit of modding to the tonneau cover to make things fit right. The factory covers will not fit either. Only certain aftermarket ones will work.
@@Donslife This is the biggest question I have as well. I looked and a few others, and they also have this question, but I, unfortunately, don't understand your responses. I do think I understand that it's your pink wire in this video. I went to the compressor video but could not find exactly what you did here. Is there another wire or anything anywhere closer or easier to find? or do you have a video clip of this? Thanks so much for all the videos. Just used a ton of your discount codes so thank you!
Both pods DRL positive lead connected to a lower amount circuit (probably a 10A) Both pods MAIN LAMP positive leads to the 20A or 30A. One ground to the body or the ground terminal in the switch box. I would check the specs for each pod and determine the Amp draw of each so you know what their combined draw is on each switch circuit. Then pick the appropriate one.
Don, great work, Gained a subscriber! I'm curious if you know, I reached out to Auxbeam asking if you always had to turn the switch on (for a specific device i.e. DRL, clearance lights etc) with each power up? They replied with, you will always need to turn the unit on via the on/off button on the control head or thru app once you have either key in ACC or ignition on. Is that true? Does each button have memory of previous use at power off? However, I also wanted to be able to have the unit automatically turn on with ACC or ignition and have the preset lights come on. Trying to eliminate always having to turn the unit on after keying up the vehicle to turn on my DRL and clearance lights each time I start the vehicle. Thanks!
@@robertionescu_ I did get this unit and although it powers up (the buttons light up) if using the accessory lead. Then you can either hit the "memory button" in the center of the unit to turn on any switches/buttons that were on when you previously cut power to the unit or, select which button(s) you wish to turn on individually. It will not power on any items connected to the buttons by default when turning the key on. hope this helps.
The order of the pad’s buttons correspond to terminals in the switch box. First button is the first fuse location in the switch box and so on. Example : If you want a 30A device in the third location, just move the 30A fuse to the third location in the switch box.
And I figured out how to do it better ... instead of using the app... double click the on/off on the panel to go into button program mode. Blue is momentary. Once u set the buttons press the power button again to save it.
Hey Don, love all your vids and mods. Will this work just off the auxbeam phone app or infotainment screen without having to run the 8gang controller into the cab?
Thank you sir! Technically you could leave the control panel tucked away somewhere safely in the engine bay away from heat and moisture. Your phone app via Bluetooth would do the controlling. Personally I would find that inconvenient and would want the panel in the cab, even if you left it sitting in the glovebox or something. If you want to control it with your infotainment system, you’ll need something like my CarPlay AI box to control the Auxbeam switches.
Hi there, the switch won’t control a dimming function. The light strip itself would need to have a dimming feature that you’d have to adjust with it’s own app or mechanical knob/slider.
Why did you put a blank wire end on one of the three wires where you cut off the connector? Was the wire you blanked the illumination wire for the switch that normally connects to that lead?
I am not sure. My assumption would be each circuit is up to 30Amp but don’t exceed 60Amps total running at the same time. You’d have to ask the manufacturer if you can go higher than 30amps on one circuit
There are two circular grommets on the firewall. One on the driver’s side and passenger side. They are made out of rubber and need the end cut open to pass wires through. That’s what they are there for. In some of my videos I show them

What was the noise when you made the light strobe?
Without rewatching the video, probably the relays clicking on/off rapidly
I have the Chevy 1500. You used a existing fuse tap. Which fuse number would you recommend to tap into? Engine bay fuse number or passenger side fuse panel number?
Thanks for this video, great install and demo, definitely a good investment to slowly add accessories to your vehicle, gonna do this on my 4R.
It has been a great solution for me so far. Filled up 7/8 spots!
@@Donslife can you list all of those 7 items? Just to see the possibilities?

Thank you
Yes there is a way. Here is one way that I did it :
Adding a Wireless Remote For My Accessories!
th-cam.com/video/aV7ey5415dI/w-d-xo.html
If you forget to turn the lights off does this automatically turn them off after shutting the truck off?
Yes, when the truck is turned off the panel will lose power too and shut off all accessories connected to it. I chose to wire it up this way. In a later video, I added a remote to be able to turn the panel on and off independently of the truck.

What sort of range do you get on the app and phone use??
Normal Bluetooth range, like 10-30ft. They make a RF remote version too now
Great video. I have a question. Can it be operated via Bluetooth with the ignition off? I camp in the middle of nowhere and if something is stirring around camp I would like to be able to "Light up the night". Thanks
Yes if you wire the panel to be live with the ignition off
@@Donslife do you know if it has any amperage draw that way? With all accessories off, of course. Thanks for the quick reply.
You can add a remote turn on like I did

This way I can turn the panel on from 20ft away and connect my bluetooth to operate anything
I just got to the part of the video where you said you have a compressor under your hood? I know I didn’t hear that wrong because I even ruined it in. Heard it again, lol. Do you have a video showing the install of your compressor?

You may have answered this, but I have a 3 way switch for light. On/off/backlit. Will this panel allow for all 3 positions?
Not that I am aware of. A 3rd position would need a 2nd switch to be used.
You could use a 5A circuit just for switching the 40amp relay on and off
@@Donslife Thank you loads. This is a big relief. 🙏
We'll done video. Great production value
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. What's the name of that light bar that you show on your truck?
No Problem. I had a 20” Rough Country with DRL but now I have upgraded it to a Strands Siberia 22” lightbar. I have videos for both
@@Donslife great, thanks 👍
The light strip had 3 cables, how did you connect it?
I replied to your instagram message 😊
Please someone help been trying to find this information everywhere. I have auxbeam light bar that has a power button and a toggle button to switch from white amber both and stobe would this allow me to turn them on and switch in between the different modes? Thanks
It would have to have each feature (wire) hooked up to separate switches on the Auxbeam panel instead of using the switch it came with. Then you would program each switch to behave how you want it to (on/off, momentary or strobe)
@Donslife would I be able to switch in between the different color modes I don't know if I explained it right. Have a switch with 2 buttons one is on/off the other switches in between white, amber, white and amber then white stobe
Amber strobe and white and amber strobe. Thanks for ur info and time.
With the Auxbeam you could do all of those modes separately
It worked with just the controller. Thanks for responding tho
Hey Don what fuse do I use for my acc I have the same truck
Try the cooled/ventilated seats on the passenger side interior fuse panel
Do both units do the strobing or just the one with the Bluetooth ?
Some non-Bluetooth models have the feature. Look for ‘pulse’ as an available function
Can you dim the light bars and stuff with the app also like the trigger controller?
No you can’t with this switch.
I noticed you didn’t touch the brightness in the middle. Is the brightness for the panel or for the lights you’re turning on/off on the light bar?
Brightness is for the panel, which also has an ambient light sensor to adjust itself
gotcha, but to confirm no way to dim the actual lights outside of the vehicle? I have Baja S2s on my roof rack, but at night camping it would be nice to dim them from being too bright
@@jeromefronda252 unfortunately this panel only does switching, no dimming. Be careful too, not all lighting will allow dimming.
Hey Don, a little curious when you are speaking about the "App" and choosing the Colors. Are the Colors associated to the Buttons on the App or colors coming out of your Lightbar?
Strictly the look of the panel buttons can be changed with the APP
@@Donslife Thank you, Sir. Great Videos and modifications. Must be nice to be rich! Ha, Ha, Ha........
Those with a 2022 or so GMC AT4 where did you connect the fuse tap wire to an ignition source?
Passenger side fuse box has more options. The cooled seats is the one I used. Not sure the location on the 22’s
(For example) 😊

Great video, this honestly sold me on it.
It made sense for me and has been working well
Does the ignition need to be on to turn lights on with app.
Depends where you attach the remote turn on wire. I did a follow up video here with a wireless remote turn on option.
th-cam.com/video/aV7ey5415dI/w-d-xo.html
Are you able to set anything to turn on with the ignition? ie DRL always on unless you switch it off?
Yes it could be done but more wiring would be involved.
@@Donslife I was thinking of wiring in a normally closed relay and using the switch to turn it off. But was hoping maybe it could be an option in the upgraded one to just be normally closed vs open. Thanks
Exactly my first thought. If you do it, let me know how you like it that way
Great walk thru, appreciate it!
Absolutely 👍🏼 Glad you like it
@@Donslife Could you do a video on that setup? I am wanting to have power without the truck being on but still want to have safeguards in place.

A+ work as always! If mine wasnt a lease id consider doing alot of your mods. Have you considered installing the sierra sportsbar from the 16-19 all-terrains? I swapped mine over but on the x-31 package not the at4. Ive had many compliments and would def look good on the artic white!
What is this sportsbar you speak of? I have the same truck
Gm had a factory sportsbar they offered on the 16-19 all-terrainX packages. I kept mine when i sold the truck and put it on my next one which was the '21 new body style.
I have thought about a couple sport bars including the one you speak of. With my current box cover I just can do it. But I haven’t ruled it out
Box cover definitely wont work. I had to do a bit of modding to the tonneau cover to make things fit right. The factory covers will not fit either. Only certain aftermarket ones will work.
Hey Don. Betcha that truck will soon be able to make coffee in the AM before too long with all your DIY mods! Hahhaa...nice work (as always)
Great idea 💡!
Which fuse was your pink wire going to? I am not sure which fuse to connect to on my 22 sierra.
I ran it to the ventilated seat fuse on the passenger side panel inside the cab
@@Donslife This is the biggest question I have as well. I looked and a few others, and they also have this question, but I, unfortunately, don't understand your responses. I do think I understand that it's your pink wire in this video. I went to the compressor video but could not find exactly what you did here. Is there another wire or anything anywhere closer or easier to find? or do you have a video clip of this? Thanks so much for all the videos. Just used a ton of your discount codes so thank you!
Does this kit has the feature come in white?
Hi I have RC pod lights that have drl and spot light how did you wire that up?
Both pods DRL positive lead connected to a lower amount circuit (probably a 10A)
Both pods MAIN LAMP positive leads to the 20A or 30A. One ground to the body or the ground terminal in the switch box. I would check the specs for each pod and determine the Amp draw of each so you know what their combined draw is on each switch circuit. Then pick the appropriate one.
Do it have any trigger inpputs?
Like hight beam signal = turn on switch 1 and 2 ect.
I think I liike the Switch Pros better.
I get it but this is 1/3 the price is all
Thank you for the quick reply. What did you do with the negative and/or ground? Did you just have to run it to one of the switches?
You can terminate them on the body/frame or the switch
Thanks!
I have exactly the same question about the memory function...
@@davymill6696 Thank you. This helps a lot 👍
Once u choose an action for the individual buttons how do you save that so it stays that way?
The order of the pad’s buttons correspond to terminals in the switch box. First button is the first fuse location in the switch box and so on. Example : If you want a 30A device in the third location, just move the 30A fuse to the third location in the switch box.
@@Donslife sorry.... I meant "'in the app". Momentary, toggle, etc
And I figured out how to do it better ... instead of using the app... double click the on/off on the panel to go into button program mode. Blue is momentary. Once u set the buttons press the power button again to save it.
i like it but what happens if the relays fail? on the gang you can atleast replace

Whats your thoughts on garmin powerswitch?
Hey Don, love all your vids and mods. Will this work just off the auxbeam phone app or infotainment screen without having to run the 8gang controller into the cab?
Thank you sir! Technically you could leave the control panel tucked away somewhere safely in the engine bay away from heat and moisture. Your phone app via Bluetooth would do the controlling. Personally I would find that inconvenient and would want the panel in the cab, even if you left it sitting in the glovebox or something. If you want to control it with your infotainment system, you’ll need something like my CarPlay AI box to control the Auxbeam switches.
Hey Don
With the ignition cable… where would you put that for somebody who doesn’t have a compressor? Lol
Cooled seat fuse tap on the passenger side of my Sierra. Any ignition switched fuse will work. The current draw is minimal
@@Donslife thank you man 🤙🏼
Can you dimmable LED strips with this? I want to install LEDs inside my camper and be able to dimmable them also. Is this possible with this switch?
Hi there, the switch won’t control a dimming function. The light strip itself would need to have a dimming feature that you’d have to adjust with it’s own app or mechanical knob/slider.
Great video! Quick question though. How do you connect to the app? I've been struggling.
It works fine for me. Restart your phone and if that doesn’t work delete the app and try reinstall it?
You should add dual roof ditch lights next!
🤔
Why did you put a blank wire end on one of the three wires where you cut off the connector? Was the wire you blanked the illumination wire for the switch that normally connects to that lead?
Yes I believe so
Do you know if you are able to swap out the fuses to higher amp? Or is 30 max? Thanks for the great video
I am not sure. My assumption would be each circuit is up to 30Amp but don’t exceed 60Amps total running at the same time. You’d have to ask the manufacturer if you can go higher than 30amps on one circuit
Wish you would’ve shown were the wire comes through under the dash!
There are two circular grommets on the firewall. One on the driver’s side and passenger side. They are made out of rubber and need the end cut open to pass wires through. That’s what they are there for. In some of my videos I show them
This really helped, you made a good video
Glad you think so!
Which fuse did you tap for power?
For the remote turn on, I tapped the cooled seat circuit in the panel of the passenger side (in the cab).
@@Donslife can I tap that fuse even if I don't have that equipment in the truck?
