Funny thing is, this is exactly how Marvel's Quicksilver explained why he was always so short tempered: "imagine being last in a long line at an ATM. The person at the front is a senile old lady that doesn't understand how the machine works, tries to argue with it and keeps resetting the procedure. Now imagine the entire line being formed by those senile old ladies. This is how I feel every second of every day."

At the very least, it's better than not providing any explanation and hoping the readers just don't notice the problem, which seems to be the usual approach to speedsters.
Right? People are saying he has a poor attention span or ADHD, but I doubt they would just stand still and listen for a week while someone was SUPER slowly saying a single sentence.
@@sfreemanohfunnily enough, though, that IS a symptom of ADHD - our minds can move at warp speed, so we bounce from subject to subject (which looks like an inability to stick to one subject), and we sometimes already know what someone’s going to say before they finish.
If we could actually run at the same speed, we’d be Goddamn superheroes
The speed force is supposed to negate the side affects of super speed@@sfreemanoh
@@Smeginator Everyone knows what someone is going to say before they finish the sentence multiple times in every conversation.
That’s the usual approach to most writing in superhero movies when underpowered people get the best of them and it makes no sense.

@@Traumglanzsounds cool till you realize youd finish every book in the world that was interesting in the equivalent of a real world month
Since time is moving like what 150,000x slower 1 month is over a thousand years
It's not like he got to, he had too, if you're working or processing anything faster, input to output, your brain goes on never stopping mode. And when time is up or work is done you still feel you can keep going on something, but when you really hit the wall of realisation on now it's all done for now or this aggression was temporary, things starts looking disoriented, and you starting zone out to find everything outside slow and partially meaningless...
I feel like a better explanation would be that if Speeders go at a certain speed (like sound) where civilians and buildings are nearby, they could easily collapse due to the high volume of wind and pressure in their aftermath.
then the hero wouldn't be able to do crazy feats like running up on vertical surfaces or on water
i bet its a thousand or even more annoying than watching a feature film movie on a 0.25 playback speed when speedsters uses their speed force. if you haven't tried watching a movie like that try it and we'll at least realize how fucking annoying these speedsters feel living their life always using their powers 😂😂😂
The flash has an aura around his body that protects him from the negative side effects of using his powers.
No god no that would be terrible.
Speedforce negates all physical sideeffects of super speed
Thank you for actually explaining it instead of throwing out the writer, cameraman joke for the millions of times.
well tbf....the writer comment isnt so much a joke as it is a fact. Some writers put the Flash or other speedsters in their story and have no idea on how to actually utilize them, so they get stuck in a comic relief position or something similar.
I am very amused by the idea that these speedsters can have God-level abilities, yet are undone by "whoops zoned out a bit there" 😂
To be fair, actual gods in real mythos have had the same issue lmao
*claps hands* comic books! :D
In a high speed fight, even a fraction of seconds can turn the table ...
Zoning out really is an exploitable dangerous weakness ...
Right? You'd think the weakness of a speedster would be a trap like a land mine, something they can't see coming, but most of these speedsters are written to be so fast they could get out of the explosion radius before the mine detonates...
...But they can't stop themselves from stepping on it in the first place.
In all fairness, that's a weakness any sentient entity would have. Even Gods are fallible, it's our illogical brains that try to associate concepts such as perfection to God's when that's not even possible for anything.
Also another thing, Barry and others with Speed Force, actually have the ability to turn it on, and off. Unlike Quicksilver, who has to constantly deal with his speed being on all the time, leading to him always "slowing himself down" so that a conversation doesn't take an eternity. This is why Flash is able to be caught lacking at times. Becuz at times, he's only perceiving things like a normal Human would. Quicksilver can never be caught lacking, but he also has to deal with consequences of never lacking.. (slowin himself down, everything in slow motion, etc..)
I'd equate it to the tortoise and the hare fable.
He attempts to take things seriously, but due to the incomprehensible attention it requires on his part, he can't always be attentive or he'd go insane.
Taking it a step further, I'd suggest that it is also a moral/ existential dilemma.
He could look at every situation as trivial and disregard it entirely, but that would result in him being a nihilist super-being (which doesn't end well).
“What is Barry Allen’s main weakness?”
Me: “Ice.”
bananas thrown from the back of go karts, final answer
Real answer: Attention span short due to thinking fast
That makes sense. Zoning out like how we do to small details in life like how our brains can read words that are jumbled up because we quickly see the beginning and end of words, or how our minds fill in the colors in our blind spots and color correct certain color combinations to make sense. Since speedsters move faster they experience time slower meaning they have compensated by their bodies filling in more blanks for them then normal.
So basically, he just has intense ADHD😭
Feels like the Speech about "Cardboard box", from Superman in the JLU. Except everything is slow instead of fragile.
Barry Allen=Peter Parker
Think about, especially how the writers just fuck with them now for fun
That's not unique to Spider-Man or Flash. Every superhero gets bent over and fucked sideways.
Modern comic book writers are adult men who never grew out of their middle school edgelord phase.
@Galimeer5 I guess if you want to think of it that what. Sounds like you might be projecting but I'm not a therapist
@@Galimeer5 It isnt just modern CB writers, even in the past they seemed to have a few sandwiches short of a picnic
@@Galimeer5 Yes pretty much every superhero gets fucked over from time to time, what makes the Flash and Spiderman, ESPECIALLY SPIDERMAN, unique from everyone else is that they get way more consistently fucked over, and in much worse ways. They have a special seat reserved on the torture list made by sadistic writers.
Which makes sense. His brain is still human. It is the equivalent of being dumped a supercomputer amount of information, the next second you are talking to a toddler. It will mess up your mind. So it is better to tap in it rather than having it on 24/7 or else you go insane.

@@Taz-ey4jl How so?
Edit: Just in case, let me clarify better. What I meant was if he isn't careful, then his mind might be able to enter the speed force, meaning that he perceives everyone as moving and talking extremely slow, where, for example, to him someone taking a step feels like they're walking (let's say) a hundredth of a mile an hour. And if he can control that, then there isn't any reason he cannot do that during a fight except opposite. Let his mind go his normal speed until the fight's over.
@@creepynoone7437 Neither of you make sense!
Talking to someone can feel like a week is hell for introverts 💀
They do have super strength, cause faster moving stuff has more force, so if he punches someone at the speed of light he can destroy that part of the earth
Plot, writer, other's plot armour.

And here some ignorant babbling "plot armor, inconsistencies, bla bla bla" ...

The only weakness of a speedster is the writers
I am glad this was finally made clear to me that it’s canon. I’ve been thinki this was the reason because there are also other things that should really be messing him up due to his abilities but they aren’t. I always attribute that to him having to focus on keeping his power from messing him up in all kinds of ways. That’s why he’s always forgetting people’s orders at the station he works at, why he forgets anniversaries, why he’s always late etc.
Also helps to maintain his cover since it would be odd that spacey, forgetful and always late Barry has suddenly become mister, “I remember everything and am always earlier than everyone literally everywhere.” So I guess those are easy sacrifices to make when they just make you seem like your still regular old Barry
And you, one of your greatest enemies freezes the floor and you go flying! You're a seasonal superhero.
He has to change in flash speed to normal so he can move normally
He was the patient zero of the new generation. He’s got the same attention span as a jellyfish😂

@@SomeGuy-cf2lpinfinite mass punch ftw
His punches are still insanely strong as speedsters do posses a different form of super strength
As force equals mass x acceleration
His Infinite Mass Punch is crazy af
But he need speed to achieve that ...
I think, it works on different principle. Otherwise he would catch fire, create shockwaves and leave craters behinds each time he speeds up too much. Probably effect of exotic thing they call 'speed force'. Not just plain acceleration we are used to. Fictional worlds with different physics after all.
@@andrechaos9871 not plain acceleration but still acceleration nonetheless
@@Efwin197 I meant, it definitely works by some other logic, than our usual things. Because force laws seems to not work properly in case of Flash, not always. Exotic effect with its own laws, however weird they are.

This makes a lot of sense. Never actually thought it this way.
Um...how about an ice floor?
That always works but as a surprise attack but if they see it coming some speedsters, can balance themselves and skate on the ice
Poor guy he got ADHD
That guy just pulled a Oliver Atom on the Flash
That's a real double edged sword too, since we know Barry Allen wants to see the good in the villains he faces on a regular basis and sympathizes with them, meaning that he subjects himself to the only thing that can cause him mental duress to make sure that he can connect with and the people he fights and try and talk sense into them.

Thank you so much for explaining this to people
“Don’t stop to talk, don’t stop to talk don’t stop to talk, don’t stop to talk don’t stop to talk, don’t stop to talk don’t stop to talk, don’t stop to talk”
Except they SHOULD have super strength because of how fast they are going, in comics at one point. Wonder woman says that professor zoom (reverse flash) hits harder than Superman, and It makes sense because force is just mass * acceleration, and they may not have that much mass but they have a lot of speed
I actually like this explanation. Red Rush said this in Invincible. Basically, even talking to people annoys him, because he's so much faster than them. So it would make sense to not drive themselves nuts, they learn to slow themselves down. It always annoyed me when speedsters would get caught by slower opponents.
Well, if every second of real time feels like eternity - this is a torture for a human mind. Like, I can understand someone so fast wanting to slow down his thinking, because spending hours to make sure a few seconds of the fight are perfect is a nightmare. People have limited focus. Doing it every time is just mentally and emotionally exhausting.
Remember that moment when flash and other flash were talking, they were talking so fast no one around them could understand it.
Honestly tho, imagine watching a 1 minute short but that single short lasts 1 full week to complete a loop. All you can do is stand there and wait till it's over.
Going to the restroom must feel like solitary confinement.
Speedsters might not technically have super strength, but since force equals mass times acceleration, they can not only hit you thousands of times per second, each punch’s power is multiplied by the speed of each attack, and with a running start, a single attack could scale up to levels of mass destruction.
“The problem of being faster than light, is that you only live in darkness”
If that’s how a normal speedster is then I can’t imagine how bad it would be if one of them had adhd before getting their powers
Even though the flash in the TV show can speed up and slow down his perception so if he wants to have a normal conversation it doesn't last forever
I actually thought of it differently. It's like how Barry B. Benson in Bee Movie explained, "Flying is exhausting. Why don't you humans just run everywhere, isn't that faster?"
So I see that to do things really fast, Flash needs to use a lot of his strength and stamina. And just like normal humans, there's a limit for that, which he can improve through training or frequent use of his power.
This makes sense. I’d “zone out” too if every second felt like a year.
Makes sense on that TV series why he talks and villains winning at first
Talking to someone that feels like a week was from a different author. It’s essentially a spider sense for the flash. But that was with that specific author and is not shared with every iteration of the flash. The flash interprets time through varying stages of awareness. It’s not always
POV: Barry zoning out in the middle of a fight for no reason so that 2 gun switch guns can take him
Their weakness is getting shot in the leg. Apparently the speed force is in the legs because it seems every time some street level villain shoots him there he forgets that maybe he could just crawl or walk at super speed or whatever?
There was a short comedy skit I saw a while back that addressed a similar situation. Basically, Batman was talking to Superman and the Flash about how cool it would be to have superspeed like them, but they point out how, even though it looks super fast from the outside, from their perspective they're just doing something for a really long time.
"Can you imagine having to walk halfway across the world just because a plane is slower?"
"You know that thing I do, where I'll flip through a book really fast and instantly understand everything? I'm just reading a book, those super thick instruction manuals, I'm just reading it. I could be a doctor or something, but no, here's an extremely complicated bomb that just so happens to have an instruction manual nearby and ten seconds left on the clock."
That shit just seems like torture for no reason I always believed that he can perceive normal day activities at a normal speed and feel normal but it switches when he is in the heat of battle like a instinctual thing, like everything is normal but when he has to he thinks extremely fast
"his attention span is really bad"
That's like saying someone who not only can't see reality, but does see a confusing warped version of it that constantly makes him trip and unable to move, has really bad eyes
a really patient and smart dude would rock being speedster
Imagine a Flash that didn't care about slowing down just destroying the rogues gallery and how quickly he'd lose himself
The biggest enemies of The Flash and Spiderman are writers.
If I recall, I think it's also because unlike other Justice League heroes, Flash isn't really a brillant thinker or talented at skills that make other heroes good at fighting. Yeah, he works in forensics but otherwise he's a average person. He wasn't trained by ninjas or a warrior culture, he's not part of a galatic milita. He's just a dude with super speed with a bachelor's degree.

Honestly like this explanation a lot.
it's all voluntary, basically if he travels around the world in 1 sec. does he experience that trip in real time from his PoV or does it feel like 1 sec to him as well... the short answer is that he can choose. when he wants the travel to feel shorter, and not painfully mandate, that lowers his perceptions
