- We've seen sizeable and impressive changes in the GH line over the years, but this one most certainly sets itself apart. We shot a music video with it and threw a few other tests in the mix to tell the story of this impressive update.

The point about 16mm is a good one. I often find myself rolling my eyes at people who complain about crop factors, because they're the same people who would also say they love the look of films shot on 16mm.

Thanks for doing this. I have a GH6, a GH5 Mk2, and two GH5s. I have put the GH7 on my wish list. I have owned the GH3, the GH4 and the AF100.
That 32bit float recording is a gem for single ops/low-buget shoots!
Thanks for the nice review! I think the stabilization hand-held is also a real strength for these camera, as it outperforms the bigger sensors. Panasonic makes the excellent 10-25mm and 25-50 f1.7 lenses, which are both stellar for video. With the improved AF, I think it is now a well-rounded camera for video shooter and a good competitor to the Sony FX30 and A6700 and Fuji X-H2S, X-T5 and XS20 cameras, whereby Fuji has the least good video AF lenses.
Dang u had me until u did the comparison to size when compared to a fujifilm apsc. The cameras and lens sizes are roughly the same depending on what lens and camera you are referring to. Other than that great coverage of this camera. Also, adding a speed booster would satisfy everyone looking for full frame

Rolling shutter effect, aliasing and moire patterns are shocking to me. But I am still satisfied.

The image does looks real nice. Going back to micro four thirds from full frame is like going back to an x girlfriend. Seems like fun but the are always headaches.
Good lighting and skill trump sensor size and camera brands. Panasonic, please release an LX100 III with PDAF and a manual zoom.

Love this new GH7. I wish I was a new filmmaker to get one but I've seen upgraded to EVA-1 and S5 and use them for a huge variety of productions not sure I want to go backwards in sensor size. But that 32-bit float and pro-res raw internal is so tempting !!
I think many people need to realize that the size of the sensor is not an upgrade or downgrade. They are simply different sizes. Base your purchase off of what works best for you rather than a perceived upgrade or downgrade. The original S5 has a beautiful image, but is nowhere near as good of a camera as the GH6 or 7. The micro hdmi, the rolling shutter, the build quality, etc. I’m not knocking the S5, just pointing out that the larger sensor doesn’t mean it’s an upgrade.
in the first upload of your video you mentioned the SDI output via flash sync socket. This would be such an awesome feature! Is this a feature they save for later or why you have to cut it out?
Sadly I was misinformed. The BNC link is only for jamming time code. I agree that it is a much needed feature.
To be fair in regards to RS: the FX3 has the ONE Sony sensor that doesn't suck in that regard (except for the new GS one, which is not video centric).. The FX3 does this by sacrificing resolution, the A9III by sacrificing DR.
The GH7 should rather be compared with recent FFs around 24MP for RS.
As somebody who had a GH6 until recently and now has an S5II... the RS is definitely much better than on the FF Panasonics. Which show's especially when it comes to burst mode photo.
This Camera has become a baby Alexa with the Pro Res raw and Arri Log c integration.
Normally I would have said that’s ridiculous, except I have a friend who had early access to the GH7 and LogC where he used the Alexa as an A cam and the GH7 as a b-cam. He told me the colourist couldn’t tell the difference. That being said, the two sensors are entirely different not to mention the processor, usability etc of the Alexa … so dynamic range on the GH7 won’t be anywhere close to an Alexa, but still, this is a very encouraging step towards your comment.

I have the G9II. I will probably not use Pro Res Raw. But if Lumix will offer the $500 extra trade in like they did on the G9II I might get the GH7
Woah, what happend to your colour and highlights at 0:32?! That was weird and looked like suddenly the camera went from 5600K to 3200K and simultaneously over exposed by 3 stops.
Are there any issues with hdmi out to monitor/recorder ninja V changing the autofocus performance? This is an issue on the gh6
Hi men, 120 fps in variable framerate 4K 420/10L 120/25 is cropped? because i cant find anywhere if its like that because in GH6 isnt... :/

Yes, that's because they were involved in the litigation with RED and ultimately RED lost and thus paving the way for others to do the same... and then of course, the quick solution was for Nikon to just buy RED... So, outside of that whole debacle (putting aside the brief moment DJI had it on the 4D before RED threatened to smash everything in their offices).... we have (as far as I can understand), the first camera to "officially" have ProRes RAW internal. One of the reasons that Canon and BM can do internal raw is because they scramble the divide between what the camera does and what the computer does. But I'm open to being proved wrong - I don't have all the information in the world.

I don’t get why you say “average user” “beginners” etc…I’ve been working as a videographer for 15years now and I still use mft cameras. I filmed a wedding with my gh6 today. Does one have to own a ff to be a professional?

if you want to compare rolling shutter between full frame and m43, compare sensors wich have the same resolution :p
The Sony FX3 has a 10,2MPixel sensor and can't do 6K recording.
The full frame S5ii (24Mpixel sensor. The GH7 has a 25.2 Mpixel sensor) has a noticeably worst rolling shutter!!
Sony FX30 ( 26MPixel sensor APSC) has more rolling shutter than the GH7.
With equal resolution, M43 sensor still wins the rolling shutter battle !!
Hi There - yes, of course resolution makes a massive difference. The FX3 was what I had on hand, just to have a point of reference. It's also an extremely popular camera for filmmakers. I simply wanted to give the RS on the GH7 some type of reference point.
Its not 7th time though, more like 9ish if Im correct.
