Adol a true adventurer! More than Link even. Link just saves the same place over and over again from the same bad guy (generally speaking).
I haven't played any game that captures the spirit of adventure like Ys does.
Man this would have been the perfect game for couch split screen co-op but I suppose those days of gaming are over now kinda sad honestly but i will definitely be picking this up
With the whole 2 character set up, yeah it probably would
Who knows maybe durante and ph3 will make a seperate experimental coop mode for the PC version like they did for 8 and 9
It would definately be a juryrigged implimation but apprently the version of it in ys9 was really good from what I've been told
This all being on a new engine would diminish that possiblity a bit I imagine tho
Not everything has to be online & co op SHUT UP

I would like to apologise for some mis-information
The experimental PC co-op mode or as the PC Port Dev's like to call it "Durante's Wild Ride" from the Ys 8 and 9 PC ports actually IS in the game (I must of missed it or it wasn't in my early review build of the game yet) and is more fleshed out than ever being an actual option in the menu instead of a weird command line prompt outside of the game
So if you have a PC that can run it, go nuts

UPDATE: So at Falcom's investor meeting last night they announced an enhanced version of Ys X (subtitled "Proud Nordics") will be coming out in japan late 2025. (Platforms not yet announced)
Not too many details were given out other than they'll be a huge new island to explore along with a bunch of new bosses and story elements, it seems like a simular thing to Ys8 and tokyo xanadu on PS4 adding a some fairly sizable chunks of new content that is nessiled inbetween everything else along with a bunch of small additions here and there through out the game
I imagine that it won't be earth shattering but if you're thinking of picking up the game keep in mind there is a new release somewhere on the horizon

I see what he meant by that it's a little bit more like dark souls. Because it's a little more reactive, and the parry system feels a little dark souls to me.
That's largely it tho, and I certainly wouldn't call this game of souls like.
@@MinkDaddy TO me the parry is more like something out of a platinum game (particuarly metal gear rising revengence)
Super easy to execute, big instant counter attack reward if you time it right
Dark Souls Parry's typically just put the enemy in a stun position that depending on things like enemy and weapon time can be followed up with a riposte attack or other things
100 travelogues mean 90 more games left.

Adol and Karja tethered together reminds me of Spyro's Dawn of the Dragon tether mechanic [it's the only Spyro I played :P]

I liked the combat of Ys Seven at the time, because for a PSP game, it was fun. By the end of Celceta though, I began to hate the combat and that extended into VIII, haven't even gotten to IX. The changes you discuss give me hope that I'll enjoy the combat more in X.

Yeah I think there was definately only so much in the tank with the party system and things like full 3d did kind of refresh it a bit but it was always a race against the clock (I actually played Ys7 last of the 4 and while I really liked the story those damage spoonge bosses were grating)
X for me still feels like a refresh of that system but its probably the biggest one besides that full 3d jump from celceta to 8
I'm all for dunking on americans (its part of my heritage) but I'm atlittle confused as to why using get and its variations is bad?

"The man works in mysterious ways." That's part of the fun that is Kondo. You never what he's gonna do or say next. What is truth or lies with this guy. Truly, he is the Grandmaster or I guess in this case, Adol's greatest ally or adversary. Depends on the situation lol
Hmm, I got the demo and trying it out. I'm not a big fan of Ys, more of a casual, always trying to give the new game a try to see if it'll really wow me. Ys 8 and 9 I really like for their stories and characters but wish there was...more of it. Ys X I hope there is because while the exploring and stuff is fun, I really play games for the story and characters. Yeah, I know Ys is all about the battles and exploration but the one's I've play have such interesting sounding stories and characters and this is Falcom, the madlads that created the Trails series, so I know I'll be going into a fairly entertaining story...or at least I hope so lol
Adol, in control of a ship? What at was it at Falcom that they were smoking because I want some because this idea is insane but hey, I know for sure my bad sailing skills will be worse then his and I'll probably have us sunk within the first 10 hours of the game lol

pretty sure I did mention it brifely in there? the music is good as always but nothing in particular stood out to me compared to stuff like ys8 with stuff like sunshine coastline, a to z and Iclucian Dance
that being said falcom just announced that an ehanced version of the game will be coming out in japan sometime late in 2025, so if you think you can be patiant it might be better to wait for that

Guess you could say, that your review feels familiar but fresh.
But then again it's your consistent style of how you review Ys games let alone Falcom fans and other games in general. Still pretty good review. And are you sure it's not Halloween-y, I mean the main villains of this game, don't look like ones that give you Treats :)
i had too much fun with the dialogue options in this game in the demo. really looking foward to more character interaction so I can make a complete fool of myself again. For me, it's a huge step up from the cast and interactions we had in IX, wich I didn't like very much. And the collor pallete!! oh boy, was I getting tired from seeing grays and browns all the time in Balduq. Just the sunset made me vibe with the first town. Loved your takes, really happy falcom sent you a code with all the dlc. btw, is the silver armor also dlc??
I find the artwork of Adol in this game cursed and I don't know why.
The 2d art is a little cursed, atleast for Adol's default render (i think its his big baby eyes with perfect lashes) it looks alot better for other art works
@@sandwichmaker9000 oh yeah he's like 17 here still, I mean more that in his main art work he's eyes are like ... perfectly round with big eyelashes, it looks like how characters are drawn "comedically beautiful" in a slice of life anime when they're trying to be elegant
Because it's by toi8. Artist for the Light novel, "My daughter left the nest and came back an S ranked adventurer". Said style seems to work better for older characters, not younger ones.

Tbh I will say last night I realised I just didnt talk about the weird quartz/materia like system the game has so I defo deserve that 0.1 point dock
Is it closer to Ys 8 or 9? I didn't like the city or exploration in 9. Hoping this has better exploration.
Its definately closer to 8 though its more segmented and spread out due to it being on multiple islands
I liked 9's for what it was but I'm glad its not returned, I very much think it was always meant to be a 1 time thing
It’s not a true Ys game because Adol doesn’t shipwreck every time you start sailing.
…It does look sick though.
Funnily enough the shipwreck stuff is actually more recent thing, early versions of ys 1 had adol land normally
The demo was brilliant. Can't tell you how much better this is as a setting over IX. Why again, did they trap us in that little town?😅
There are multiple towns through out the game, I only showed the first 2 as to not spoil much

I was a little nervous about this one bc I didn't like YS 9. But they didn't disappoint with this one. Still shocked i didn't like an Ys game. Monstrum nox was just boring to me.
20 hours into the demo. When is this thing gonna end?
Do i get it on switch for portability or PS5 for framerate...... Decisions...
unlike ys 8 and 9 I hear this one actually is a hard choice since the switch port is good
@@Kraftium I think I'm going with PS5. Played the demos on both PS5 and Switch. They did a MUCH better job this go around on the Switch port, but the 60 FPS on PS5 won me over
@@Kevin0043 Always the choice I pick, luckily cos I get codes I usually request a PC one and then pick up the Limited edition on playstation for physical because I'm an idiot who double dips

I'd say Ys9 is closer to stuff like gravity rush, infamous and prototype but essentially yeah
tho its more like they take those elements and inject it into the usual Ys gameplay
Looks cool but I'm just done with the Viking theme at this point. Same with Feudal Japan. Give me a game with a different theme and I'm in.
Luckily for me the only viking games I've played in the last 20 years are too human (and thats sci fi vikings), and the 2 newer god of war games

Played every game in the franchise. This is easily the worst Ys since III. It had me bored to tears, from the hours of talking with writing of dubious quality, a sailing system that's clearly an afterthought and frankly non-canon because Adol doesn't shipwreck it, to the completely unintuitive controls for the revamped combat that's arguably worse than the previous two. Ys is my favourite franchise, I even like the Japanese only spin offs. But I wish I never played Nordics because it's poisoned my expectations for what could come next.

Graphics look so outdated...
They are, but the characters look decent, and the gameplay is fun.
Ys will never win awards for graphics, but I've played plenty of games with high graphical fidelity and they end up feeling lukewarm. Graphics can only carry a game so far.
Where Ys triumphs is in its ultra fast, super fun combat... the loveable characters... the epic bosses... and the amazing soundtracks.
@@OtterloopB the best game has a great story and graphics, but these graphics aren't HORRIBLE. They're colorful and good enough.
I enjoy the game so far, can't wit to jump back in soon :) I also installed the mod that gives her better chest physics >:)
Speaking as someone who played the JP demo this EN font is lq awful for readability🥲🥲
really? Luckily for me I've never had many problems with readability despite being dyslexic (unless its like 60 indivdual icons in something like an MMO)
@@Kraftium I wonder if it's the resolution maybe I saw some other game footage and it looked at least a lil better? In general when there's a shadow drop it looks just fine to me and non-cutscene fonts are nice but in cutscenes the subtitle outlines are a lil too weak ^^''
@@veefeedscatz I did play at 1440p and recorded at 1080p so that would make sense
