Ys X: Nordics brings Adol Christin's youthful spirit to the forefront, offering a refreshing mix of action-packed combat, deep customization through the Release Line, and expansive exploration. With a gripping narrative and dynamic character relationships, this entry stands as one of the best in the series. While the sea navigation takes time to open up, the ship battles and adventuring more than make up for it. Ys X: Nordics will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Falcom deserves so much love and support, they still making great full packed games with so much heart in it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm almost certain that it was first XSEED and later NISA that had Durante and later his studio, ph3, work on the PC ports of Trails and Ys games, not Falcom. AFAIK Falcom is only directly involved in the initial Japanese release and the ports are handled by the publishers in the other regions.
It's part of the reason why he's not working on a PC port of the Trails in the Sky FC remake (in fact the Switch remains that only officially confirmed platform for that game) as NISA isn't the publisher for that game.
I like the longer review. This will probably be one of the most detailed reviews for Ys X. I have played most of the Ys games and I liked the comparisons to the older titles.
One day we’ll have the capacity to make all our reviews this long. It really matters about time and what else we’re working on.
I've been hooked on the Ys series since 1990! That year my 13 year old self saved all year to get the TG-16 CD add-on and bought Ys Book 1+2! And let's just say my friends and I were completely blown away! The killer red-book audo, cinemas and top-notch voice acting were almost unheard of at the time. And Falcom was one of the trailblazers for those in the industry. It left a real impression and that's why I'll always have tons of love and nostalgia for the series. The fact that Falcom and the Ys series are still thriving decades later makes me so happy!

God damn, I love this game. I beat the Japanese version last year, and anticipating my US version's arrival. Gotta finish up Kai No Kiseki & Metaphor before I jump back into YsX. I love ya'lls takes, and like seeing how much you loved YsX!
I actually liked it better than Ys8 in some ways, which is one of my favourite games of all time (I even have the Warden symbol tattooed on my wrist).

@@yass3425 no way man look at 2007. Its INSANELY packed with huge games. Halo 3, Call of duty 4, portal, Super Mario Galaxy, Crysis, Mass Effect 1, Team Fortress 2, God of War II, Half Life 2, Bioshock, Rock Band and way more

Been looking forward to this ever since I finished Monstrum Nox earlier this year. Good to see it lives up to the hype. Ys is such an intriguing series as a whole, and Adol is such a badass MC.

I was jussssst about to say - yeah, ive played this before, feels like more of the same etc - and then I got in that mode you spoke of, where it all became second nature, the attacking, skills, traversing and I was like .. oh crap. I never want to stop playing this ever. that's the hidden power of ys
Companion AI looks really good in this title. They zip around, actually attack your target and use skills. Not to mention the R2 block seems instant and very smooth. Combat looks great.
Terrific review! Well-detailed and informed by the knowledge of past games (which I haven't finished myself, hah!). I was already planning on getting this, and your review cemented that decision. Keep up the great work!

My first Ys game I'm excited!
Definitely pick up Ys 8 and 9 too. I personally recommend 7 too. It was my first Ys game and I really love it.

Super pumped for this! But where should the series go next? I'm hoping for an Ys V remake. Ever since I saw the duo mode for Ys X, I thought it would be cool to have something like that in Ys V where you can bring out Stoker and make him a more active participant in the action.
I was looking forward to this review. I am glad this game reviewed well. With so many games that are c coming out this month, it will be hard to get to this game. I will pick it up eventually though.

On a side note, I get that there are all lot of things to talk about for a game like this, but one of the biggest pros of Noisy Pixel review videos was that they were short and to the point.
It's not a big deal most of the times but 17 minutes is a bit too much.

This is Ys. This is one of the longest running RPG series of all time. It existed even before Final Fantasy. This is an appropriate review for a series with such a rich history and I’m also glad that the reviewer actually references past games when most other reviewers won’t make the proper connection for long time players.
Yea. The long form thing isn’t a trend for us, and not even something we can work into our workflow, but it’s Ys :) shorter vids are still our thing.
This was a beautifully thorough review. I am a diehard Falcom fan. Alas, I still have pretty much all of the Ys series to play through after I finish Trails (I'm on Cold Steel 1, xD), but I'm happy to hear the love for Ys: Origins, which is the only Ys game I've played all the way through. Suuuuuch a good game.
Despite the fact I won't get to play this probably for another year, I just preordered the Collector's Edition.

First YS game really impressed it’s very addicting and a blast to play! Currently playing the demo on Switch but not sure if i will buy it for Switch or PS5… leaning towards the PS5 version tho.
Has someone who just got into the series through Ys VIII, I am high key excited for this game: I'm doubly lucky it comes out the same day as Sonic x Shadow generations, which means my gaming calendar is pretty much full at this point 😎
2024 has been an amazing year for video games. I can't wait to pick this up and Romancing SaGa 2 at the end of the month.
These October releases are killing me!!! Not going to finish Metaphor before this comes out. Adulting is a drag sometimes.
I'll probably get this somewhere down the line, but for now I got Metaphor. Also, glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed Falcom's music has fallen off after Cold Steel 2.

You gave the last ys the same score and I loved that one. I will say I miss the party system and I hope it comes back but this is fine for now. I have my collectors edition ordered and I cant wait to play.

Lacrimosa is my all-time favorite, I hope this can take its place, I was not the biggest fan of the city traversing parts of the last game, and checked out early despite the cool combat, I will miss Flash dodge which I hear this game does not have😢
We have some good rpg this year but this one is the one i want to play the most, i don't think i will like it as much as Ys 8 (because Dana will stay my favorite character and piloting a ship is not my thing) but this X looks so fun, it's good to have a different gameplay for a change even if the gameplay of Ys 8 and 9 was perfect to me.

Can't wait to play it. I have a ps4 and a series x....i d like to play it on a next gen console but falcom games (except ys origins) are not available on xbox...the ps4 game has a free (or payment) update on ps5? Or you have to buy a different copy?
Ys8 is one of the best game ever.. I hope y 10 is similar to 8 and not to 9 (great game but i did not liked too much the city...prefer the island).
I can always trust noisy pixel reviews. IGN need to learn from them
Looks like a step down from IX to me, which is my fav but Im still probably going to get it.
Can't wait to play it. I m playing the demo and seems ok...maybe too much dialogues... I did not expect a 9.5 score.... I expected a 8,5 because I think lacrimosa of dana is still the best... Happy if it s better than ys 9.

I loved VIII but was a bit lukewarm on IX. IX is growing on me a bit but it's not totally gripping me like VIII did. I feel like Nordics will go back to that VIII feeling but expand upon it even more. Looks fantastic!
Hope they patch in the difficulty because you can't have the harder ones be a breeze as well

Yes, I also like IX more than VIII!! And I think you'll love Nordics too.
For me, there was too much Trails DNA in IX. I love both series but the structure of the game, mainly side quests, felt like it was directly lifted from the Trails games. And the visual style felt like a Cold Steel asset flip. Now I know Falcom puts out a lot of titles at moderate to low budgets, but it was the first Ys game that felt too Trails to me. Despite the story callbacks, it just didn't feel like a Ys game to me. This is of course just a personal opinion.
I am also way more partial to the shorter single party Ys games, Oath in Felghana being my all time favorite. I honestly wish we got shorter Ys games and kept the long titles to Trails, but I'm being very subjective here.
Ys 9 hate comes from the whole, trapped in an imposing prison city. And since it's an imposing prison city, and not lush forests, or untouched nature like most ys games, it's grey and dull. Something most games hate
@@RaifSeverence People need to realize that not all games need to be similar in visuals otherwise after sometime it would become extremely boring.
Ys IX had a unique settings & exploring the Balduq was so much fun with monstrum powers. We didn't had that for any previous games. It characters were really well developed & the party battle was polished to a T.
And we can explore the lush & diverse world outside Balduq. The wait for it in the contrasting grey city was worth it in my opinion.

Your review style is very inconsistent... you said in your Darksider 2 review "if your in the mood for a dated, early ARPG" yet this looks dated out of the box. Whatever review metric you are using needs heavy revision.
Graphically dated and mechanically dated are not the same. Darksiders 2 is both.

Ys9 wasn’t bad. The playable characters was too big. I lost interest in the game and the story. 8 was much better. I’m excited for 10 big time.
What? 8 has the exact same amount of playable characters as 9 though.
Highly disagree. 9's characters are better written, more fun to play, and it was the same about overall. 6 characters.

Too bad that I hear that the PC version is a dumpster fire.
As for the soundtrack, the reason for the dip in quality have to do with Mitsuo Singa. His music is far below par compared to the rest of Falcoms entourage, and yet they keep on bringing him on as he is a cheap contract worker. He basically became a permeant fixture after Cold Steel 2, and the series was way worse of for it in my opinion.

The PC port you are referring to is a PC port done by Clouded Leopard and not PH3 Games who is doing the port for the global audience. Clouded Leopard usually handles PC ports of Falcom games for the JP and Asian markets.
PH3 Games actually fixed the original shoddy PC port of Ys VIII which was done by a different team and PH3 has since worked on Falcom games such as Cold Steel 1-4, Trails from Zero/to Azure, Reverie, Daybreak, and Ys IX, all being stellar PC ports.

These Ys games are a bit too short on game play length for being charged full price of $59.99 USD. Also, their story plots are pretty much the similar fair every time. The hype of these games by JRPG weeboos is getting out of control. It is also interesting how there is no version for Xbox.
