Are frankie and pat having a competition who can have more stuff in their shirt pockets? Lol
That's the make-up artist trying to make them look smart. I guess they need a lot of help!
It’s Pat infecting Frankie with pocket goodies.
Right? How many pens does someone need?
I'd love to see you guys build an air-cooled VW engine someday. Been a fan since the days of TNN. Glad too see you guys are still around. Haven't been seeing any new videos and I've been worried the show was canceled. Keep up the good work. You guys rock!! 💪🔥
That would be cool! I know there are supercharger designed for VW engines. Let ‘er rip!
Yeah.... If air cooled, build a turbo VW engine with upgraded bolt on fuel injection that can run E10 or E85.
Run E85 in summer to help keep the air cooled engine temps down & E10 during the coldest parts of winter to help engine start easier.
Or find 2 cheap carbureted 1200cc V-twin motorcycle engines & build a 200+hp air cooled V4 engine mounted to a manual gearbox in the back of a VW.
Since we are getting crazy, how about a Honda 4 cylinder motorcycle engine in a little car like a Fiat 850 spider or something like that.
@@jamesberdine8574 Look up the Honda S660 2015-2022 I think it really needs a liter bike engine instead of a 600 motorcycle engine.
that and or a corvair engine
Megasquirt makes EFI easy. Can run almost any engine. Initial setup is easy and building maps is automatic. Then is self tunes. For $400, it's all you need. My 452 cu.in. FE Ford with 8 stacks runs on a Megasquirt. So does my twin turbo 4.6 Cobra motor in my '32 coupe. The wiring harness tells you were everything goes. Don't pay big bucks for a Holley or other aftermarket system, use the money for other parts of your project.
Nice video!
I’m building a 72 Charger Rally with a stroked 440 (512) cu in with a Fi tech six pack on top. I’ll be putting the engine in soon
Just bought a FiTech system for the 350 in my jeep. Excited for the improved drivability.
Great vid guys. I purchased a Fitech efi for my sb ford project. Looking forward to seeing it run.
Solid overview. Most of the off the shelf systems now are easy to install and work great. Even if you want to do a fully custom conversion, there are a lot of resources out there to walk you through it.
awesome information as always ! keep up the great work!
The biggest part fpr me and others is making a high pressure fuel system on older cars. Pump in/out of tank, filters in/out of tank, regulators in/out of tank, fuel /return lines, connections, power to all etc. If I was power nation/engine power I commit a whole episode or several to setting up fuel systems for several common setups so people see how to do it. We learn massive indepth engine building techniques from ypu guys but I seem to miss the fuel stuff. So an example one of my boys 1998 vortec roller cam 350 rebuilds. NO hole for m3chanical pump. My children want an old school hotrod with some minor new stuff like roller cam. Now they are stuck with an electric fuel pump. Takea the fun out of it not knowing what to do there for them. Fuel systems! Please.
Just get a external Walbro pump and wire it in with a relay. Get a fuel pressure regulator and gauge. Add a return line that dumps into the gas tank fill neck. Done.
@@turbo32coupe A Rotec TBI runs on 4 psi, requires no return line and will operate upside down if required.
Great episode, thanks!
Good stuff. Thanks guys
That 225 looks mint!
I got that exact dual quad system and it never ever worked. No one, but no one, could ever get it to work either.
Took it to 2x dyno tuners and both of those were just left scratching their heads. Tried to return it and they said it was an installation error for which they can't be held responsible and they won't accept any returns.
I'm a qualified mechanic the installation was 100% perfect.
So fast forward turns out all the onboard ECUs were faulty subject to a class action in California.
They try and sell you a new ECU even though the EFI system never ever worked, they knew there were problems and they treated me like I was the problem. Completely unethical in my view.
Also the manufacturer never mentions that their dual quad system doesn't fit on latest SBC dual quad manifolds - apparently that isn't their fault either but mine.
The anger is coming back, a very bitter experience.
Slapped an TBI style EFI on a Buick 455 five years ago. Never ran properly. Mileage was worse than the Quadrajet, Started harder than a quadrajet, never had a smooth idle, throttle response was the same as a quadrajet. I shoulda just stuck with a quadrajet.
I’ve heard similar experiences.
I'd love to see you guys do an ITB build 😊
Megasquirt has an ITB mode. Self tunes.
I fit a A/F gauge to my 360 engine with a 750 holley. I was shocked at the readings. Once you drive about part throttle, backing off with high vacuum situations, throttle roll on's I couldnt believe what the carb was doing. Looked good at full throttle but its those other situations.
I went EFI after that because I knew I'd never get the carb the way I want it.
The engine doesn't want a specific air/fuel ratio. This is the lie efi vendors sell you.
Loving the videos guys if it’s possible could you do some more videos on straight 6 builds like you guys have done in the past 😊
Right there with you. I really enjoy inline 6 builds. 👍
Guys I absolutely love your informative show!! I recently converted my 1972 mustang to a throttle body style efi. It’s a 4 bolt main 4v Cleveland engine with original iron open chamber heads 9:6:1 compression. What is a good afr for light cruising??
Thank you very much
I definitely need this in Colorado high altitude
Would like to see a complete conversion of a sniper or equivalent put on a stock efi Ford 300
Can you guys show how to go from factory PCM and EFI to carbureted crate engine. I'm considering building a copo Camaro 2010. . Should I leave the wiring hanging? Remove the check engine light . Or go with an early 70s harness
i got the edelbrock proflow 4 for my 1969 390 javelin ....just for easier start ups and more driveablilty .. since i live close to the cascade mountains alot of elevation changes
I would love to see you guys do a few ford 2.8 v6 and the taurus yamaha 3.0 v6
I would love to see you guy pulling off all your knowledge on these engine the 2.8 would love to see without turbo or blower to make 200 hp and 300 plus for the sho engine because your show is very good but it's only v8 oriented and your wallet is the only thing that prevents how power and how easy to get part for these engine
When yall done the 4.3 was it already fuel injected or not when yall put the efi system on it
For any application you should run port EFI if there's a dual runner intake manifold available for the engine that meets your power, and emissions, goals. Historically that has been the greatest obstacle, particularly with port injection, because port injection needs a dual length runner manifold to take full advantage of its capabilities. If you have that manifold, you can run a wide LSA, that allows it out perform as well as run cleaner and smoother than a dual plane carb or tbi setup with a narrow LSA from idle to peak torque. It can also be set up to outperform a dual plane carb setup past 7000rpm at the same time. All of that isn't possible with a carb because the fuel won't distribute properly through a dual runner intake, and you have to run a narrower lsa to get the power.
At 1:00 where the "Boosted 4.3L V6" is shown running up, you can see fuel dripping off the throttle body linkage.
Frankie & Pat, please continue these wonderful videos. #Powernation - please do not squash these wonderful videos and personalities.
Could y’all do some older 4cyl EFI conversions? I’m talking 60’s & 70’s ignored and forgotten 4 cylinder engines into the modern era. Pontiacs, AMCs, the “off” stuff.
Never happen. The show is designed to sell parts to the masses.
Excellent video. Is this new content or is it stuff from the past? Thanks
good vic explaining how the after market EFI components work and what can be done, but the title of the video gives the impression that you would cover the pros n cons of the EFI conversion . It would have been much better , if a comparison between a carburetor and EFI engine had been included , as well as when the cost is worth the effort.
Why do BBC cranks have a counterweight for every throw, versus an SBC where the middle counterweights are missing?
The answer is yes.
I need to see a Straight 8 build and an EFI Ford 300 inline 6 build from mild to turbo monster and I've got one I'd love to let yall build for me.
I can imagine Pat getting ready in the morning with all those pens in his shirt pocket 😂
How much confidence do you guys actually have with the "auto tune" thing? Especially on a TBI deal with one O2 sensor.
Ford Barra 6 pot turbo. You will love it, just keep winding her up.
I would be curious to see you guys do a corvair engine.
Grat vid guys but what about older engines I have a 41 CJ-2A with the flat head still and I would love to upgrade the Carb to even a simple throttle body but have found nothing for older engines like flat heads so why not a custom build on a old flathead one day with new equipment such as Throttle body and Electronic timing ... Thanks
Iv always wanted to see a full build and find max horse power on a 455 with just a single carb, the biggest carb. No boring. Thanks
I would love to see you guys do an episode, about the legality of frame swapping. I’ve seen an episode where a unibody car was set on a chase frame, but you guys have never touched on things like cab and frame swaps for body on frame vehicles like a 1949 Ford F-1 to a say 1990 Ford F-150 Frame.
legality? As long as you dont try to pull something shady with the VIN its not a legal issue changing frames.
Wouldn't the distributor magnetic pickup be the crank and cam signal. Same signals as cam and crank sensors. Also can be tied in to a MSD
I would like to see you test a pedal commander
The basic stuff that most gear heads know. But nothing fun like how it affects the idle quality of big cams, pros and cons of different brands of port fuel injection and throttle body injection.
Could I use this efi system to eliminate the spider injection system on a 4.3 motor
You would need to swap to a carb style manifold, to use the other type of fuel injection system, they are talking about.
I have a 1989 ford van that is already efi but the electronics and wiring are bad, can I hook up one of these to a car that's already efi?
A question if you please? Can a throttle body type EFI like the Holley Sniper be rigged to use Propane instead of Gasoline???
No. Propane has a completely different regulator that is required. In some systems it may actually require a vaporizer.
@@joshtheking1772 hmmm, interesting. thank you for your comment.
Does anyone besides Edelbrock make a multiport EFI kit for a small block Ford that includes the intake manifold, distributor, etc?
I used to love you guys man! How could ya?
Have you seen the 2barrel or single barrel from FAST.
Great video guys 😁👍
Would it be possible to try an upcoming video without any background music please, as I found it distracting from what you were saying?
EFI is the only way to go.
Aces EFI is set up for blow through or through draw . Supercharger or turbo no problem
I’d like to put that leaning tower of power in something like a 32-34 ford streetrod!
I love efi for the street but im a boat guy and will take a carb and distributor on a mild setup any day of the week. Keep it simple
Same with airplanes. Simple saves lives
How about a Pinto wagon project with a turbo 4 banger. 😂😂😂😂
It would be interesting how to get around oil source for the turbo.
Aces EFI doesn't need a crack or cam trigger. Hand held or top tuning.
Does anybody think you can get better mpgs compare with a stock gm tbi
Most of the build is inline 6 n v8/v6, wish u build 4 cylinder engine for next project
They did, built Hondas n even swapped engines for a street stomping 170fwhp..lol
Aces EFI check them out. Top notch 64 bit.
The problem is, who makes quality O2 sensors? There I said it
now this might be a way out of the box request but if any of the power nation shows remember late 90s to 2000s nascar restrictor plate racing, i would like to see one of those engines being torn down and then rebuilt with and run on the dyno with and without the plate to see the discrepancy in horsepower, and also hear that awesome sound and let powernation experience that also
Unrestricted they were 850 to 900 hp. Way too much for today's Cup steering wheel holders.
To answer the 'Question' in the Video Title.... Only if you plan on walking after the Solar EMP.
.
It's proven that EFI is better than an old-fashioned carb. Watch the Engine Masters episode. Get with the times ya boomers!
edelbrock pro flow 4 is the way to go
Holley Terminator X. Way more capabilities.
Can you guys do a dual injection engine? Take a LT from Chevy and integrate port injection. Direct injection makes valves full of carbon. You could only clean them with fuel or put more fuel and force air in this new dual injection makeup. Toyota already has developed and is selling dual injection engines, so is Ford, Subaru and the Volkswagen group, so it's possible, but more complicated.
More work to do something like Speeduino or Megasquirt, but you'll save literally thousands of dollars over Fitech/Holley/Etc. plug and play.
No disrespect to those who want something more turnkey, but part of why I like working on my cars is the process, not just the end goal.
How about a 318 la engine build
What about direct injection?
Build a 454 with a Holley sniper 2 EFI set up build a mild and a wild build 500hp and a 1000hp
I'm not allowed! The old timers will beat me with cane's!
I know man, but it will start every time ,idle and go good but they still start shaking with smoke coming out there ears. They look like a carbies and with there bad eye sight they might not know.
#1 thing to know- avoid the Holley Sniper system at all cost! Especially on a SBC engine. I think they fixed a few of the issues with the Sniper 2.
Why
@@sneedsspeedandfabricationthe first Sniper Kit wasn't able to self-learn on a dual plane manifold because the draw on the throttle body was different than that of a single plane manifold.
I'd love to see a Chrysler/Dodge 4.7L OHC V8 build.
You won't see those engines on these shows. There is no aftermarket parts out there. The people that build these motors pay for one off custom parts they built or payed a company a bunch of money. 4.7/3.7 are rejected child's that got love at first but was proovin that they can't handle much more of a power programmer and exhaust. The cold intakes out there harm the motors then help. I've had 2 jeep gran cherokee with 4.7 and 1 with the 3.7. If you want to see why these motors don't handle power just Google or look here on youtube.
@@wkjeeping9053 . . I appreciate the advice. I'm actually a retired Ford Tech. I really don't have much experience with the 3.7/4.7, or even the 'New' Hemi's. I think a roller-block Magnum 318 or 360 is what will find it's way into my 2000 WJ. At least I have a reasonable amount of experience with those. (still mulling a 302/AOD swap since I already have everything, but . . )
A EFI "swap" I haven't seen is taking a 88 and up Chevy which is TBI 5.7 and getting rid of the old crap and swapping in a new TBI system. The old OBS trucks are popular but the old original TBI systems are craptastic at best, the wiring is old, etc etc.
Build an olds 303 rocket!!!!!
You've got it reversed. Question is, should you de-EFI/ go carb?
No point with NA unless you go to a good tuned runner length fi dry manifold.
For the price of a Sniper plus EFI fuel tank, it seems like doing an LS swap would be better.
90% of the time, an LS Swap is cheaper. The reason for that is simple. The stuff is already there.
How to do an EFI Conversion:
1. Spend $2000 to boost pressure and buy Throttle Body.
2. Call customer support to get it to run
3. Take to local EFI Guru to make it idle.
4. Drive and Enjoy.
5. Call tow truck when EFI brain dies.
6. Repeat steps 1-4.
7. Call Tow truck again.
8. Buy Holley Carb w/ manual choke
9. Enjoy Car again
I wish Frankie was my neighbor
Oh! That means i can run a nice thumping cam
Switched to Holley Terminator X and dont look back. No comparison to a dinosaur carb.
Just some comments...
1) they are not "Self Learning" - They will adjust the air fuel mixture based on targets in the base map either supplied with the unit or that you set
2) None of the aftermarket systems do any adjusting of the timing curve. that is set in the timing table.
3) none of the aftermarket systems "Learn your driving habits" they will adjust your fuel mixture in the areas of the fuel table that it operates in.
I have been a long time viewer of both the TH-cam channel and the television show, you have missed the ball with this video.
My background is an Automotive Engineer specializing in EFI and Drivability. Normally your info is good but not so much on this one.
I do custom EFI installations and tuning and her this same misinformation as outlined above from the owner of any system that i am hired to correct. On one count you are correct, it is much easier to make all sorts of adjustments in an EFI system, but most of the entry level throttle body systems (FAST, FITech) cannot be tuned thoroughly using the supplied handheld and do not have a provision to plug in a laptop or work outside the supplied hardware. The Holley systems do. Either by pulling the microSD card or directly plugging in to the unit with a laptop. Sorry for the rant but you need to check your facts better.
Where are you located?

@@cobrabuilder9336 do you create content? Where can we follow you?
Front ram BBC intakes are absent!!!
Too many LS intakes. Too many Center intakes!
RAM EFI FTW!!
It bears mentioning that a lot of port EFI systems pulse all the injectors simultaneously, all dispensing the same amount of fuel. In my mind, that's hardly worth the extra expense over a TBI system. Just my $0.02.
Thats not entirely true and sort of a half truth. TRUE fuel injection varies the pulse width in accordance with many factors.
Water injection
These guys and their front pockets 😂 unreal
oh yeah...how often are you doing something and spend 10 minutes looking for your pen or pencil. Might look funny but useful AF.
@@chevyracer4089 i know the exact toolbox drawer i have pens pencils, flashlight, magnet etc. having 12 items in the Front pocket is borderline comedy
Ok, hold the phone for a second. One thing they DID NOT MENTION. Make sure you call a tech line or find a reliable source that you trust to answer one of the most basic questions that some A/M companies DO NOT MENTION. This is what you ask them verbatim, "Is it tunable on an Aftermarket Duel Plane Manifold?" I cannot tell you how many times this issue comes up. One more thing. DO NOT put on a carb spacer until the basic parameters have been set and verified and you are comfortable with tuning the system.
Last but not least. DON'T OVERTHINK IT. The computer only needs the basic information to enable a base map. You try and spoof the computer for some odd reason and you are gonna chase problem after problem. This is where the older generation has issues.
Hard to belive some one on the payroll.
You lost me at O2 sensor
A sensor installed in the exhaust system. It senses the fuel/air mixture.
@@jamesberdine8574 yeah for the price I might as well get a ls setup. And change it all

Efi has gotten a lot easier these days.
The self learning fuel maps didn't exist. Wiring.. was following a shitty diagram.
Too bad we didn't get to see it driving???
Moral of the story: dont do efi on a slant 6.
A lot of money and work for very little if any gain.
New video idea***
You give a random viewer (me) a really cool car with a built proof engine, for free. :)
Yes but not throttle body injection
holy crappy audio batman
BLOWN BBC/BBF
Carbs easyer an better at dumping fule. Efi more expensive an tuning all the time money money 🤑
No, you shouldn’t because of the “E” in EFI.
Wait until you learn how the combustion spark is generated
Real fuel injection has injectors per cylinder n adjust timing in real time. Holley sniper is just a waste just buy a modern car if u want efi.
Thay are by no means reliable, and when they get warm it screws with the computer, and there is no fixing it on the side of the road, you are screwed until you replace it, they run good for a while but it's only a matter of time until you're walking getting towed,I'll stick with a good old carb from now on !!
Sounds like boomer yelling at clouds.
If EFI didnt work, cars wouldnt have been using them for over 40 years.
