      Yes!!! I’m so glad you finally got around to this one! It’s one of my all-time favorites, and I had a feeling you would really like it, too. The dirty bass, the darkness, and the screams just seemed to be right up your alley (as they are mine).
      What makes this all the more heartbreaking to watch is knowing what a sweet, sensitive person he seems to be. He must’ve been in a really terrible place.

    • @DGReacts
      @DGReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yeah seeing the contrast from Don't Tell to this really surprised me, but at the same time, such darkness often comes from people who appear to be happy or positive to the public, and art is the only way they can really express how they truly feel. it is heartbreaking though, that he had to go through such darkness.

      @@DGReacts you’re absolutely right. I’m always a bit suspicious when someone is ALWAYS smiling. There’s usually something dark hidden underneath.
      As always, you are very perceptive. 😊

    The [answer] to this song is Antidote. The songs are him working thru depression and internet bullying, among other things that tormented him at the start of his career. He is an extremely resilient human and as humble as can be. His new song Upside Down is a pop bop.

    Kang Daniel placed 1st in the survival show pd101 and he debuted with the group that came out of that show and become the most influential idol in Korea in 2017 , since that group was temporary they disbanded after 1.5 years , after that Daniel was about to start preparing for his debut when he found out the company he was signed to sold his contract to multiple parties basically making his a slave to the contract , Daniel decided to fight against them by taking them to court , cause of this that company started a smear campaign against him making us lies about him to ruin his reputation this was a very stressful for him and this is why he started struggling mentally , even when he won the case and had his debut that company still didnt stop their campaign joined by a big group of antis who did their best to destroy him and ruin his reputation , in late 2019 he had a mental break down and took hiatus and his company informed the fans that he was diagnosed with panic disorder and depression earlier that year , Paranoia and his whole mini album "YELLOW" which I highly recommend u to check out depicted Daniel story and struggle with mental illnesses ...thank u for reacting to him and I hope u will check out more of his music and mvs

    He's had to deal with haters. That's when his anxiety began. Haters are making assumptions and gossiping about him even when he is not leaving his house or doing anything. He actually dealt with it. He'd been on hiatus for months before recording that song. This song is a way for him to cope with his depression. He is brave to show us his nightmares.

    The white outfit that he wore... It represents the white straight jacket and the belts represent the restrains on mental patients. A lot of thoughts went to the mv indeed. The cctv in the bedroom, the red eye, drowning scene and the attacks (yes, the demons are himself)
    Thank you for your reaction and thoughts. You got them right even though u knew nothing about him. It was a hard time for him and he had take a hiatus to deal w his depression and panic disorder. As a person that was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age (had it most my life, but it went undiagnosed until I was around 14), this song, this music video is one of the best representations of the on edge anxiety that is paranoia, or paranoid delusions. It is one of my favorite songs of all time. It's my go-to whenever I start feeling overwhelmed or some possible paranoia creeping up- Just the beat and dance/visuals entrance me to calm down some, and then the lyrics make me feel understood, enabling me to deescalate. The fact that it was released during my birth month just added another accidental layer of comfort 🥰

    Thank you for the reaction! Paranoia is the pre-release of his EP Yellow. And the next song after Paranoia is Antidote. The two words on his arm are "Failure" and "Ugly", bcs these 2 words are the most common words his hater used to attack him and his music. As a fan since 2017, he has been facing massive cyber bully and dirty media play since 2019 ( after his solo debut). Many different reasons cause the hate towards him. Plus he already reached the top popularity inside Korea during 2017-2019, he almost had exposed schedules every day and all his moves were under supervision. His pain mostly came from people (former fans & haters and media) twisting his words and actions, making fake rumours and mock about his stage & music.
    He used to be a very simple person that always put a smile on his face but after all those things brought by fame, he struggled with depression and anxiety and became have problems when facing an audience or the public. (But he kept on sticking to the treatment and got much better, he used to be a very cheerful person)
    Daniel is one of the most honest and kindest people I have ever seen, and he always wants to try new things in his music. Hope you can check more of his music in the future 😊

    Have I told you I love your facial expressions today? No? I so fucking do! It's what made me like you in the first place. That being said, About this video, the way I see it, it's him fighting the daily demons, those ones that no matter what you do or how much you try to hide, will always find you in the dark, when you cannot sleep. those ones that scare the heck out of you but yet it seems you're never able to kill, even with medicine... This video in fact touched me more that I thought it would.. when I first saw it I imagined I'd see Kang being sexy and stuff but... well, not saying he is not, but the lyrics and the visuals touched me in a different way... I identified with him and the constant fight with depression and inner demons. We see those demons every day, they suffocate us, they are always there. We fight failure, we fight pressure, but it's there day and night and we never know when they'll show their faces and put out the light of a day...and... did he win or lose in the end? Are we winning or losing? The visuals are stunning, the music is raw and strong... Kang Daniel is incredible (hola papi) AND you're not a psycho. Or we are both. Kisses, my dear. And again, thanks for the video.

    Without knowing his personal experience you understood pretty well the story behind the video: your intuition is good but also Kang Daniel did an excellent job, because make everyone understand the messages in his songs thanks to a perfect combo of gestures, visuals, outfits, moves, words in his lyrics. You did some interesting comments that nobody made before in all the other Paranoia reactions I saw. Well done ^^

  • @Kpop-hr6of
    @Kpop-hr6of 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    According to Kang Daniel, he searched and found Rigend Films to direct this. He said that he would only go with them because he had a certain vision in his mind that only they could understand. The images, the set decoration, etc, We're in KD's mind and the director understood what he was after and brought it to life.
    He wanted to show and help people understand what Mental illness is and to try and make it where it wasn't such a bad thing to have them.
    I loved KD before, but once I saw this video, the meaning behind it actually helped me with my mental health.
    To have the strength and courage to put his own problems out to the world, made me want to give him a bear hug and say "It's Okay, we're in this together!

    This video stunned me into silence the first time I watched it. And then I talked about nothing else for the next few weeks. Ive overlistened to it for now, but I just know that I will come back to it some day. One of the best, most intimate and honest releases kpop has seen in years.
    And the fact that he wrote these lyrics actually made me worry very very much. Just what did he have to go through to have such thoughts? But thats also what made them so very relatable, because many of us have experienced similar thoughts at least once. I felt understood and less lonely
    The song reached me on a deeper level and I will not accept anybody ever saying that there is a language barrier. Fuck those guys, if a dude from Korea helps me through my depression and anxiety without even speaking my language or knowing me, go look for a better excuse

      I couldn't agree more. Everything about Paranoia, the lyrics, the melody, the symbolic visual shown on the MV, feels so honest and relatable. He's been through lots of things for the past years, as constant attack from his dedicated haters mocking him in everything he does and spreading so many false rumours, to the point that he has to go for few months hiatus due to depression and anxiety, one of his darkest moment that made him released the "Yellow" album. Despite everything, I'm proud that he shared his vulnerable side into music and make it a masterpiece. And one way or another, it does help some of us to cope with our own situation.

Much respect to Daniel for overcoming the dark period and being courageous/strong enough to share his story/struggles in this magnificent art form. The #YELLOW album was dark, deep & personal and it was part of the healing process for Daniel too. Paranoia for me is one of my ult fav songs as it speaks for someones inner demons!!!Close to the end there are some white lettering showing on the "demons" back (3:54 in ur reaction)..these are greek letters and as a Greek girl myself I was shocked and proud at the same time when i saw that..Btw those greek letters appear again on his forehead in the last frame where he reveals the left eye 😉So just to help you out with the translation it basically says "Eyes are sword" ..And by that i guess it means that the way you look at something can pretty much say a lot of how u receive and react towards something..Like as a metaphor eyes are sharp like blade and by a quick stare at someone u can pretty much tell a lot..SO yeah..very glad you checked our boy out and im happy u liked his music!! 😊💜

    Thank you for your reaction and you are hitting it right , they way the visuals and symbols mean it.
    Daniel sudden rise into popularity made him scared of people watchin his life always but what made his severe anxiety developed was the betrayal of his own agency instead of take care of him, they are literally the one starting the smear campaign, being popular also solicited haters and jealous ones to always make his every action bad in public. During his legal battle and 6 mos hiatus he was already under treatment for severe anxiety , winning the legal battle did not made him less a target but more of it until he had a breakdown which led him to hsi second hiatus to rest for a while. He also became scared of crowds . he came back after 3 months with a travel show which helped him heal but his cb was the start of the pandemic , all shows are without audience so its helping him to heal little by little As he started his color album , he also started to create all his songs in Yellow album which i hope you will listen because , his stories about cyberbullying thru Digital song , Paranoia song which is fighting against himself against being scared, Misundertood which shows how he feels all he does is given another meaning always, Antidote which is the TITLE TRACK ( may i suggest you see also because its really the next song after Paranoia ) hope at the end of the tunnel, and SAVE U a song with lyrics that is a message to himself.

    the ghoul thing is actually true!! the editor thought it was a nice detail because of all the eye imagry and the scary aspect of the glowing ghoul eye. Paranoia is my all time favorite mv, i just think the way everything came together to represent a dark period in his life was so well done. i think i also love it because of how straight forward he is in the lyrics about how terrifying it was for him, you can find clips of him talking about it and that it took him a while to be comfortable with sharing this side of him.
    i would also recommend watching the behind the scenes of the making of the video, the directors are AMAZING.
    the dance practice is also a masterpiece because of the zombie like choreo.

    - Don't Tell feat. Jessi
    Also his B-sides are great. He's the CEO of Konnect Entertainment because some.... Really bad stuff happened to him so that's why he often writes very deep lyrics. He also knows how to write songs that perfectly fit his voice which is just incredible

    I've listened to his album "Yellow" and read the whole lyrics and I'm so grateful that he chose music as a media to speak his mind. For me, music which born from "honesty" is the most attractive. It's like, I read the whole story about him from his own pov and Paranoia is the best way to summerize what's exactly happened to him in that "particular night".

    Thanks for trying to understand what Daniel wants to convey with this song! Some more: Creepy lady - one of his demons ; tattoos (failure, ugly) - cyberbullying/hate ; flashing greek sentence - "eyes are the sword" ; 3:47 - evil him forcing original him to hurt himself ; starting formation - tomb with ghouls ; 1st chorus end - ghouls pulling him to their side and making him their king (cape outfit).

    Thank you for your reaction, it's pretty spot on. I'm curious now as to what your reaction to the whole Yellow album will be. Daniel said that that album is best listened to in the order of the tracklist. The whole album deals with Daniel's mental issues and was written by him. It begins with Digital, which is about online haters; followed by Paranoia, then Misunderstood, where everything he says is (purposely? ) misunderstood, then he looks for the Antidote (please react to this MV) and finally Save U, which is a hopeful, uplifting song after all the darkness.

  • @tanithrea
    @tanithrea 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I was aware of his talents but it was thing song that got my full attention. He expressed the moments of sudden anxiety just walking down a street, the apprehension in his own bedroom that he’s being watched. The oppressive nature of the feelings of depression and anxiety that will not always be 24/7 but it’s random and in this he shows it getting more intense and more unpredictable as his crisis deepens. His reality warps like the painting, his every look and movement is under a microscope and then when he is home he’s alone with his own fears that rise up and hurt him more than anyone else can as he’s battling that inner demon. The good part is he feels like he’s better now and living with much more light in his life while still always handling his darker side. Antidote was the follow up to this track and again addresses the next part to having this crippling depression and then when you hit breaking point what do you do help, meds, where do you go who can you ask cause essentially you need the antidote to the poison that’s running in your veins. I applaud him for both showing himself so openly and sharing this level of personal experience but also saying that he doesn’t have answers it’s not like a pill and he’s over it but it’s everyday and as best he can handling it if you can’t erase it to find ways to stop it from taking control of your life.
    This song and the visuals I think spoke to a LOT of people especially raising the topic of mental health in South Korea which still has a lot of stigma with many suffering in silence. There is thankfully a lot more idols and talk about it each year and month even since this MV so it’s all slowly helping turn the wheels of change towards it.
    Visually there is just so much, the link between conveying the feeling of anxiety and depression and how to show that to others as an image is jam packed in this MV. I don’t know if he was ever to the point of a final decision but he was certainly at the breaking point of desperation. I’m very very glad he got support and is treating it now and is back doing music creating amazing tracks. Truly hope he’s happy and finding the positives in his art again.

    Hey DG I love your videos and reaction, your deep dive theories are very refreshing and fun. I wanted to point out if you hadn’t noticed that in the scene when he’s walking in the hall building, all the people that go by him have no face. They are faceless monsters, another fun thing that I believe is really cute. The scene with the monster he fights in the end of the video is actually Daniels manager, he had wanted to be included and his manager is a big tall guy. It was really fun to watch especially since his manager couldn’t hear or see shit in his costume. Anyway thank you for reacting to Daniel and taking a step forward to being a baby danity, and if you want the kinda sequel to this watch antidote, or just listen to his entire yellow mini album and color series in general he is amazing.

    After Kang Daniel's hiatus from depression of what his former company did he decided to write this song based on his personal experience. Kang Daniel created his own entertainment company called Konnect Entertianment where he is the CEO and has 16 employees and the company manages 3 other solo Idols from former groups. Kang Daniel has many friends including Bang Chan from stray kids. I highly recommend you check out Antidote m/v which is the answer to this m/v. It isn't as dark as you like but Kang Daniels vocals are so freaking amazing. Here are a few other very good m/v that are a little older, Touchin m/v, Waves m/v and Who U Are m/v. I also thank you would like Woodz who is a solo idol. He was in a former Chinese group called Uniq even though he is Korean. Woodz can speak 5 languages fluently (Korean, Chinese, Tagalog, Portugese and English). Trigger (2020) no mv but a live performance, Love Me Harder (2020) is one of my favorite M/V and Feel Like m/v (2021) has such a blues rock vibe. I Hate You m/v was released this year.
