thank you for your review!! i always look forward to your thoughts on Daniel's work. When he goes "LALALA" in the song, he mentioned that that's the "dark" him and you can tell on live stages he switches from running from the demons to joining them. It's really awesome and the thought behind everything to do with this song and MV is absolutely incredible. He wrote this song about his mental health struggles he faced in 2019 and it's been so cathartic to see people realize and sympathize with him. His stages for this song are out of this world. I highly suggest watching his "THE SHOW" stage.
Also the words on his arm say Failure and Ugly. A lot of these words were thrown at him in 2019 and really affected him. He is basically saying he knows about all the things his antis have said about him & using them in his art now.
When he's walking in the hoody and the people around him don't have faces....that freaked me out! It's a good representation of how celebrities see fans on a daily might look like.

I've always liked your reactions, where I feel you try to stay objective and positive at the same time, if you know what I mean. 'Paranoia' shows that Kang Daniel dealt head on with the curses of those haters: you are a failure, you are ugly... He was almost drowned with the hate, but he rose over it. It's truly like resurrection.

Daniel wanted to this dark past be told in order to let it go about his mental health that suffered last 2019 but he was able to show it in the most artistic way and it was so beautiful. Daniel wanted to be known more than his name as an artist/singer thru his music and he is achieving it really 🥰.

the music video and lyrics just screams anxiety for me. The way the 'paranoia' was portrayed was not from a physical form, its almost like what is shown is representing what people with anxiety feel. A large fear based from only your mind. This could also be interpreted by many different mental illnesses too.
especially the spike wall that goes on top of him, I resonated incredibly well with that (what my anxiety feel like personally). Also the woman whispering in his ear when he was just walking around and the man trying to attack him at the end when he was safely in his bed.
You are right. Kang Daniel wrote the lyrics based on his struggles with anxiety and panic attack, but he says he is better now. I hope you are doing better too.

You are absolutely right. The first time i watched this MV, i didn't understand the lyrics. But by watching the video, i can some part understand that he is talking about his fear and anxiety. Understanding the lyrics makes this song more meaningful

In my personal experience with kpop I've never heard a comeback song like this. It's so raw and personal not something you hear in a title track. Usually this type of song is saved as a b side track. And I 100% love that he made this a single.
I'm not comparing, but didn't Jackson Wang's Bullet to the Heart have a similar feel, too. Both talk about internal struggles, and are able to portray those feelings in their lyrics and visuals. I really love both artists and song 😄. Is it maybe because they have their own companies, that they are able to do this?

Suga the last B side from his mixtape Agust D .All of his songs are personal and dark because h deals with depression social anxiety and suicidal thoughts but The last is the one that is so raw that it hurts especially if you relate
2:21 the formation of him and the dancers forms an eye. So the creapy looking circus stage is also an eye shape. So he sings that even when he closes his eyes they live on the dark (you can't see anything with closed eyes). The dancers approach him in a creepy way like they are the paranoia. I love the symbolism.

That red light flash in his right eye means something, as before in the mv you see the monster/demon depicted with that same red eye. I think it might mean that that demon doesn’t really exist, rather it’s himself that’s torturing him in the quiet moments, as in the final chorus he himself has that red eye flash.

Amazing review! Love the analysis of technical elements and color theory talk. Daniel wrote the lyrics when he was on hiatus from depression and anxiety in late 2019/early 2020. The words on his arms at the end are failure, ugly, fake, and loser. The Greek words on his forehead are "eyes are swords”. He recently performed on SBS TV The Show and the backdrop was decorated with malicious comments, as if showing he is above his inner demons.
Here's what he said about the song: “The theme in itself is heavy and distant, but since I’m resolving feelings I’ve personally felt, I wanted to express them honestly. I believe this is a feeling everyone can relate to, there’s only a difference in the extent and the depth.”
“I’m thankful that I can display the feelings I’ve felt through music. The reason I put focus on such a dark aspect is because the majority of people are reluctant to bring this up. I wanted to confess my inner concerns and communicate them.”
I really like him as a solo artist, I really do.

Okay, the song is great (I agree with all your points on it). But choreo is amazing: it tells the whole story without needing lyrics or visual support. You can tell that he's being possessed by something, fighting it and then losing himself to it. Just great. And the backup dancers do an incredible job at being demonic minions haha

I had to pause for abit when I saw the spikes going on top of him, it creeped me out and gave me a suffocating feeling. I've never seen an artist using these kind of depictions in their MVs, never. And it's really unique + fascinating when I think that not many kpop idols who like to copy other people's concept be able to pull this out

PARANOIA is a song about the process of KangDaniel showing his dark and painful self to the world and healing himself. He was once a poor young bird who was hurt and shrunk, but now he overcame it proudly and became a bird with big and beautiful wings and flew freely around the stage. People should know his hard work, courage, and talent that sublimated pain into music.

Daniel wrote this song about his darkest times when he was fighting depression and anxiety/inner demons.
You got it right that when he has the dark clothes and makeup he acts as the demon. Also Daniel sang the song like there are 2 people singing it. The lalalala is the demon laughing at him. There's a lot of eye imagery in the MV. The red set is an eye and at the end there's a phrase in Greek which says "eyes are swords". It shows the public attention and unnecessary opinions put pressure on him and hurt him. He actually did a music show performance for this song in a set decorated with hate comments.
This comeback is so good and it's just a single. We're not ready for the album.

That might because he’s his own boss has the right to chase what he really want, even though the path is so hard.

“Don’t You” He covers his eye, because that’s where the darkness spreads, and he doesn’t want anyone to see it. Then when he grabs his jaw and moves his hand away, it’s him pulling it out, He’s looking at it thinking “why is my jaw out”? Then he grabs his heart and pulls it out, thinking “why is it here” and he throws it away. Then he grabs his throat and pulls that out too.

I remember just hearing this as an ad from another YT video, that pre-chorus is *angelic.* I'm in awe.
I don't follow his career but that was a great comeback. I like less and less darker comebacks but I like this sound and this theme, it seems very meaningful
I have like Daniel’s previous releases but this is the first song/MV that has really impressed me with his artistry. I have only one very small complaint. The empty building scenes just fall flat compared to the rest of the MV and I wish it had been shot later in the day with some type of colored lighting.
the reason behind it if you will also see the dance choreo , those two shots in that dull color building is the real him narrating about his nightmares . the colored part is his battles and his nightmares , so to segregate it they made it dull . in the choreo when he dances the narration , he is out of the clutch from the dancers which symbolizes the demon . The MV is really about songs, choreo , colors designs , telling the story of daniel fighting with his own inner demons or being paranoid brought about by hates thrown to him , although this is suffered by many people also and he did this to comfort them.
