I've owned many boats up to 44', my pops owned hundreds, the consensus between us both ”solo sailors” you don't need more than 32' and the smaller you can get away with the better off you are period
Especially if it's a trailer sailer and you have to get it off the trailer by yourself. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, cheers Paul
I'm getting a Bayraider 17, but I have to say that's a beautiful Pathfinder they have there. :)
I think the pathfinder would be my next boat, I do like a cabin cheers Paul
I like this format, very well balanced, club type banter and aspiration and informal interviews that are very informative, nice work, did I say I liked it ?
Glad you enjoyed it!, cheers Paul
Interesting to see all the different boat set-ups
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, cheers Paul
love it! Far better than an ocean liner that has to be anchored out. My grandfather used to have a small pull up keel boat we explored the Florida keys with...looks the same experience as down under!
Yep get close and step off your boat, an easy way to carry firewood ashore. I've just been up at Myall Lakes for 5 days with some interstate dinghy cruisers .....keep your eye out for that one, thanks for watching and keep up the great work, cheers Paul
Looks like a great place to explore!
Thank you Paul. As always an interesting video. That Bay Raider Expedition looks impressive.
Hi Ross, not sure how pricey the expedition is, the Bayraider 17 is about $50K. I've just joined the Dinghy Cruising NZ group on facebook to follow your adventures over the ditch, cheers Paul
Nice work again Paul,it was a good weekend even with the rain.
yep
Hi Paul , I stumbled across your channel recently and I am thoroughly enjoying your videos . I have a Drascombe Lugger and , now I'm 76 , was beginning to think I was getting a bit past it but your videos have fired me up again . I've bought an electric winch for the trailer and have made plans for a few trips this summer . Thanks again , Paul . Mike , South Wales , U.K.
Hi Mike,....you're never too old! We have one guy who is in his eighties. But having said that, it's always important to sail to your own abilities. We don't get many Drascombes down here, please send me a photo to sailingkatelouise@gmail.com thanks for watching and leaving a comment, cheers Paul
Really enjoying your videos. So well put together. A bunch of blokes just getting out and enjoying their boats. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks Jamie, I'm going back to Myall Lakes in a couple of weeks to meet up with some guys from Queensland, cheers Paul
I’m always so interested in the tent set ups you guys have. Thank you for the great video Paul!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment cheers Paul
What a great bunch of boats and what a fun bunch of guys!! I love the mail in photos at the end, nice touch Paul and as always, thanks and Cheers Mate!!!
Thanks James as always, cheers Paul
I felt at home when it was chucking it down with rain, good to see all the boat adaptations and customised bits.
Hi, Yes well we are mainly fairweather sailors here and that's because the weather is normally fine....unlike the old country. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, cheers Paul
Nothing like a bit of Scotch mist to cheer one up! 😂😂😂
Yep winter is coming, cheers Paul
A nice variety of vessels in the fleet. Thanks.
Thanks Johnathan and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, cheers Paul
It was lovely to see the Seil18, a beautiful boat
Yes but unfortunately they capsized on the way back, but all good, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Boats are essentially just a list of compromises. Small boats compromise the most.
Yes, but easy to get off a trailer so you can sail in different locations in our wonderful great outdoors. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Whilst I do enjoy the chat and banter, I really enjoy the sailing and scenery, and this video was a little light on on that department. You are lucky to be able to showcase such locations.
Thanks Rob point taken. I should have filmed trying to get the boats over the sand bar which took ages but I was too busy dragging Kate Louise. More sailing on the big one April 8-11, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise I understand, I am usually either too busy holding on or enjoying myself to film!
Love your channel! This is affordable and fun sailing. You have a great group of buddy boats.
Thanks again James. We have just been at Myall Lakes with some interstate dinghy cruisers who travelled 2 days to get there. Video will take a few days to put together., cheers Paul
A really enjoyable video.
Glad I discovered your channel today. 👍
I've been watching Bruce's channel for a little while now, another great channel.
Looking forward to following your adventures.
Cheers
PS I was born in Essex, guessing you're from the South East yourself Kent maybe ?
Thanks for watching Ian...there's 86 videos now which should keep you going for a while. I'm from a village called Milford near Godalming in Surrey, where the radio operator for the Titanic came from, cheers Paul
Nice collection of boats out again, Paul. Sad news about Ian Outred. Saying you're just getting into Autumn: we are just getting the feel of early Spring now; and the clocks go forward next week!
Not long before you hit the water, cheers Paul
Thanks Paul! Great episode ❤
Thanks Mate, cheers Paul
Another great video Paul. Bought back some Lake Mac cruising memories.
Glad you enjoyed it guys let me know when your current Bayraider 17 will be finished for that Sydney client and please pass on my email to him, cheers Paul sailingkatelouise@gmail.com
Thanks Paul fr that lovely video. It's a possibility that we might make it into Lake Macquarie with our boat on the way north to Yamba
Great lat me know when , cheers Paul
Looking at my crystal ball, I'd say late May. We're fully replacing the solar, electrical, plumbing and refrigeration systems before we leave the Central Coast where we have the boat now. Not somethign you can put on a trailer and tow up the highway.
Cheers and keep on aing those videos Paul. BTW beer on board.@@SailingKateLouise
Great group of mates and such a diverse nu.ber of interesting boats and as always Paul you have a fantastic eye for photography.
Thanks for sharing cheers.
Thanks Dave for those kind words, cheers Paul
Great to see the sleeping arrangements on the different boats! BestRoy
Thanks Roy, not all ours have the comfort of a houseboat cabin, love you videos, cheers Paul
I also sail an open boat, OSPREY, that is tarped over to sleap aboard! My bride insists on all the comforts, I don't mind :Roughing: it! That said, you may also have seen CROW and she is a luxury to camp cruise! Enjoy watching Paul! AllthebestRoy@@SailingKateLouise
Very cool video, really great content. What a diverse collection of boats and setups. We have a 2020 Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran, it's wicked fast but very easy to sail. We live in Key West, Florida and the Corsair is the perfect boat for sailing in the Florida Keys...
Sounds great....what do you do in hurricane season? cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Put in on a trailer and haul to Ft Lauderdale, I have a friend that has a storage lot that has 15 foot tall concrete walls that are 2 feet thick, very good wind protection.
Thanks for posting these sailing excursions with short descriptions of a variety of boats both sailing and ashore. I’ve been meaning to start a small boat sailing group locally but haven’t taken steps yet. I sail a modified Florida Bay Mudhen 17 converted from a cat boat to a sloop and am in the process of renovating a ComPac 16. Small boat sailing groups are the best. My sailing is on TH-cam as Prairie Coast Sailing and Sailing Magic as the Missouri River is our coastline along the prairie.
Great I'll check it out and send me a photo of your Mudhen to sailingkatelouise@gmail.com ,cheers Paul
Another banner vid! Great mix of sailing, socializing and boat envy!
Thanks Capt, cheers Paul
Hi Paul, you’ve let me down!!!! I look forward to hearing what you’ve forgotten or left behind. This episode …..no mention of forgotten items.
Well John believe it or not I didn't forget anything. I know that's rare but you know, you have to just go with the flow. I'm sur I'll forget something next time now that you have mentioned it. Thanks for watching again, cheers Paul
As always, well done.
Thanks again! mate, cheers Paul
Great sail!!! Can't wait to get on the water again myself!!
Thanks James fairwinds, cheers Paul
Great footage of variety of boats sailing... very nice...
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers Paul
Another great adventure! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure Dennis and thanks for watching, Keep an eye out, the really big (National Dinghy Cruise) is next week, cheers Paul
Amazing pocket cruisers 🤗
Yep small boats are fun and a lot cheaper to keep as long as you don't want to live aboard. Thanks for watching and share with your friends, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise yes! Ours is small but still big 😅
Thanks for the video Paul, getting closer to getting mine back in the lake. : )
Great join us when you can , check out events on the Raid Sydney Facebook site to find when the next one will be, cheers Paul
Super vidéo ! Merci !
Ça me fait plaisir Rémy merci encore d'avoir regardé et pris le temps de laisser un commentaire, toujours apprécié, bravo Paul
Envious !! Who Me 😂 I sent you some weather from Bonnie Scotland 😅😊
Thanks Andy...probably not necessary but thanks anyway and thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Another great video Paul, many thanks for sharing - it was was an enjoyable 30 mins.. Maybe I missed it in the narrative, but what was the launch point? I didn’t recognise… cheers..
Hi George, we launched at Summerland Point boat ramp, lots of parking, a little harbour and 2 mins walk to the bakery, IGA, bottle shop, cafe and garage. Can get a little noisy though, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Many thanks Paul, good info.. 👍
Thank you for the videos. What does the flag with the yellow cross represent?
Thanks for watching Paul The red and yellow flag is maritime code R or the letter R and as we are the Raid Sydney group we have adopted that flag. It's also the regional flag for Skone in Sweden, cheers Paul
A wonderful sharing of other boats and their skippers. Greatly enjoyed. Is that a new tarp enclosure on your boat?
Paul in Canada
No I've had mine for a while bit I don't bother putting it up in summer if it's going to be dry. But now we are in Autumn so it will keep a bit of heat in and keep out a bit of condensation. Thanks for watching again, cheers Paul
Hey Paul. Wasn't there going to be a John Welsford SCAMP joining a Raid soon?
yes I hope so maybe on the next one at Myall lakes....I think he is still building it, thanks for watching, cheer Paul
Paul! you didn`t tell us what the meal was like, so I am going to have to guess ;) Can you or have you had a good look around the pocketship? It really appeals to my idea of a simple, easy little cruiser.
will do when I next catch up with Terry, but I think he's going overseas so he will miss the next Raid, cheers Paul
Do you ever tow a little pram behind KL?
No Mark, but I do now have a sup, cheers Paul
Can I please ask what that boat is at the 2-3 minute mark? That bed set up looks amazing!
It's a Bayraider 17 designed by Swallow yachts in Wales U.K. and built by Denman marine in Tasmania, cheers Paul
I live on the windward side of Hawaii Island so as soon as I were to get out of Hilo bay, I'd be in open ocean. I wonder if there is a small boat like these that are capable of crossing oceans. Is blue water dingy a real thing?
Well I would say not really but then many would disagree. Wayfarers have crossed the North sea to Norway and Jack de Crowe crossed the English Channel in a Mirror and I'm sure there are many other examples. In 1993 a guy crossed the Atlantic in a boat that was 5ft 3inches, would you call that comfortable? I wouldn't....a keel boat offers more security on big voyages. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Review the Pocket Ship?
Well I have already reviewed Terry's pocket ship see th-cam.com/video/0Nl_bg6fU1U/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SailingKateLouise but I could do a more in depth look if you like, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
how does one find out when you are out and about ?? cheers Frank from Sydney
Check the Raid Sydney on facebook, under the events tab you will see any Raid posted and how many are coming or interested, cheers Paul
A lot of more yachty type boats that are not strictly dinghies, and as for that trimaran WELL
Well dinghies are defined as small open boats, yes some of ours have cabins but surely it's all about having fun isn't it? Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Ofcourse it is and I have subbed you from the off, no sooner do I leave my comment than you shame me by showing that fantastic Ilurr, keep on with it Paul, just the right amount of escapism in a Cold March in Devon uk
What kind of trimaran does Mark have?
It's called a trailer Tri, the side hills fold in and it can fit on a trailer, cheers Paul
Algos luv dinghy cruzin as much as your mate likes romantic weekends...
Hi we had lots of fun, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
who brings the wood for the camp fires?
Well we all bring a bit. I had a tree come down 3 years ago and I've got enough wood for another 2, cheers Paul
How do I send a picture of my boat?
send it to sailingkatelouise@gmail.com and thanks for watching, cheers Paul
What does the red flag with yellow cross mean?
It's the Code 'R' flag and as we are the Raid Sydney group we have adopted that flag. It's also the flag for the southern region of Sweden called Skane, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Ahhh, Thanks for clearing that up. I had found the code R and the Skane on Google but was still confused. Love seeing all the different boats. Thanks and cheers back! Matt
Yes, I thought about you all getting wet as I was in the boatshed on the other side of the lake working on mine
ummm dry and that smell of timber, see you soon , cheers Paul
Are you still accepting small boat submissions from viewers in other countries?
of course send to sailingkatelouise@gmail.com cheers Paul
