GCN+ was about $60 (American) annually. And you also got racing coverage that we didn’t get here in the states. It was a decent deal then, but these prices are astronomical just for documentaries.

TH-cam Premium is fantastic. My job gives me the time to listen to podcasts all day, which invariably come from TH-cam. I can listen all day, no adds and use my phone on other functions if needed. I would go mad with adverts.
And I agree that the Premium GCN costs are insane.

If youtube didn't take the piss with their ads I'd happily watch them. Instead I've opted to not see any ads. Like a firewall...when you're forced to sit through 2x 30 second ads to watch a 3 minutes youtube video you realise they're taking the piss.
I use a browser on my phone without any special ad ons or extensions that removes all ads and lets me play it in the background or with the phone screen off.
Just because there is no actual money transaction doesn't mean you aren't being ripped the hell off paying with 'watching ads'.

In Canada the only service carrying professional cycling live coverage is Flobikes. They charge $50+ per month. GCNs rates are not ridiculous for something you can't get anywhere else IMO.

I was paying $7.99 USD for GCN+ and access to bike races as well. And I believe that is roughly what I pay for Amazon and Netflix. I would have signed up right away for the same price. $14.99 I can't justify. And I think many folks will feel the same. I think they are hurting themselves with that pricing structure.

3:50 - 100% agree. I pay for newspaper subscriptions because I want to support quality journalism not populist clickbait that gets eyes and advertisors. Sometimes that means I have to cut costs elsewhere. There is a tipping point though - FT for example is good quality but a bit too expensive for me.
Cycling content is interesting to me but not something I would pay for directly. Indirectly perhaps for example on a streaming platform like BBC, Now, Netflix

I made the mistake of signing up for the lowest cost GCN plan just to watch the documentaries only to realize you needed the higher priced one. My mistake for not reading though everything. I did however turn around and cancel it minutes later when I realized. The price just simply isn’t worth it. I have also been a TH-cam premium member since the very beginning when it was still TH-cam red and only cost me like $2.99 a month.

Re GCN, is it not that the paid TH-cam side is paying for all of GCN as well and the MTB and Triathlon side too
Surely since GCN were sold back to the original CEO etc, surely their ad revenue alone won’t support what remains of their staff.
Personally I won’t pay for it but even if you used to pay for GCN+, at least you used to get to watch world cycling coverage. Now you get the documentaries alone of which there are a limited amount
Yes their documentaries are very good and I appreciate they won’t be cheap to put together, as you all said, becuase of the staffing that has to be paid for as well.
Also what they are charging, TH-cam are taking their cut which doesn’t leave as much.
But the £120 extra for a water bottle and a signed book is a joke.
But it’s probably the same as people who are happy to pay a tip in a sandwich bar for someone who hands them a sandwich or a coffee. Most people think it takes the p!$$ but some are happy to pay for it.
But I can imagine those paying £120 extra will only do so for a year. So it will be interesting to see how things are going in a year

I've lost faith in GCN since they sold out to the American Warner Bros Discovery even though they bought it back. Unfortunately the presenters and staff suffer from poor management decisions. I like Francis' idea of having a "lean" business, sounds like he is passionate about his life in cycling. Too many American companies buying into everything, I'm tired of the American Flag.
