    For me this was Digweed's best, and really solidified the late 90s as being the best evolutionary period for electronic music. Renaissance and NE were great, but nothing rivals this mix of "dark funk-trance"...seriously my favourite of all time.

    John Digweed.. original master. When you talk about the "Drug Tech interface" he is the classiest dj's that will bring you that. Never would he ever mention it. Nor would any classy head on the scene mention it.. but there was something that happened in Digweeds time accompanied by Danny Rampling, Sasha, and for sure Oakenfold honeymoon phase.. it changed the world on a massively underground level.. to the point where every commercials visuality, every multimedia project, every electronic party no matter how big or small, has him and the original movement to thank. It goes as deep and the Dead, electric guitars and acid, and even deeper to African tribal drumming and whatever they used... it's a continuous trip and John Digweed and honestly thAt magic maninly changed the world. For the better :)) good luck out there my brothers and sisters. Bliss On!

      I feel you. The first time I went to a music festival with multiple music genres (I'd been to psytrance festivals before), I thought that there would be only popular EDM, I didn't know almost anything of techno and house. In this festival (EDC) destiny took me to Neon Garden and I fell in love with house/techno. Digweed closed that stage and it was a magic experience. Later I bought a DJ controller and started throwing parties where I mixed techno and progressive house, and it all started that day with that incredible set that Digweed gave us.

    Saturday night on the floors at Club USA, The Roxy, then the Limelight with Fuschia Doll popping pills, sniffing thrills dancing waste deep in bubbles in the back room with gorgeous girls driving it home all night long. All just distant MDMA filled memories of my lustfull, heart broken youth. Now I have a kid and a 9-5. I listen to this mix while driving home to Brooklyn on my motorcycle on the BQE @ 120bpms.

Gone are the days of beats and sounds, Sasha & Prydz and a few techno heads still trying to keep this flame lit.

I was a metalhead (!) and at some point decided I wanted some dance in my life - I switched to psytrance etc, at some point I went to an Oakenfold/DeepDish event in Athens (2000) and from there on began to learn about progressive house/tech .. found some of these compilations (golden years) and was immediately hooked if you like this you probably also like Deep Dish GU as well as Danny Tenaglia .

      nah mate. don't get me wrong it's an awesome, ground-breaking mix, but not his best. not a duff track on the mix, every track is a classic. First Sasha and Digweed Renaissance mix pioneered, spearheaded the unique style of UK progressive house and early trance. . Still keeping the heart and soul of original Chicago and Detroit, but splashing an unique UK flavour to it.

      that one is fucking amazing if I'm thinking of the right one ( leftfield song for life 3 in a row).... even so that falls under sasha and digweed... and sasha is the real innovator... ground breaker call him what you like... maybe even God

    • @Totally_B
      @Totally_B 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont agree with that at all. Look at the pioneering tracks and remixes Digweed produced with Nick Muir in the mid-90s (Set in Stone, I Am, Heaven Scent), then you had some tracks like Chilling Moments in the early 2000's that continued to define the dark progressive sound. I think Digweed is the innovator myself, but thats just me. Hell those tracks still sound fresh today and were light years ahead of the progressive house movement that started in the 90s. His tracks were constantly on the developing edge of the progressive house movement.

    Actually, the Jimmy Van and also the Chris Fortier (Bedrock Compiled) albums (in the vertical list of other albums to my right) are also hot property from the same/similar EDM era.
    Brilliant stuff !!!!

    • @StormCentre88
      @StormCentre88 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you know more than me . . .so that's cool.
      But remember almost none of this music is possible with out a (electronic {the "E" in EDM}) synthesiser . . . so if you accept that then it's all pretty much EDM; where some of it came - before the EDM "moniker" came out (which was really just marks the USA's acceptance of house/trance music) - is/was called "EDM" and other (usually earlier) stuff is called house, trance and all the other non-EDM variants.
      I have been running a studio for 20 years now.
      Take care.

    • @StormCentre88
      @StormCentre88 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, contrary to your last post/claim, did refer directly to "EDM" in my last post-discussion with you.
      In any case, it seems that "EDM" is both an journalistic term and also an accurate and worthwhile term for almost all the music we speak of.
      Not only that "EDM" is 1 term that allows you to not have to worry about being politically/technically correct about whether it's "prog house", "prog trance", "house", "techno", and all the rest of genres.
      So perhaps we agree.
      The lines between them all are blurred, but for the last 20 or so years not too much of the music we speak (and also that mentioned above) of would be possible if it were not electronic (dance) music.
      Therefore the terms EDM covers the lot; regardless of when it was historically invented.
      Take care.

      Aside from the fact that I have explained (several times already) why the term "EDM" applies (for me) . . . . .. all I can say to your last post is . . .
      OK no worries - look after yourself.

    Ok I got your point about slower bpm but also the pitch is lowered so in my personal opinion I prefer the original tempo

    Hi, why so slow? This sounds so much better at around 127/128bpm which would suit the time when it was recorded 1999/2000

      Hi, the original was at 130 and 132 bpm, in the last 17 years John has slow the beats per minute considerably, my intention was to show how an emblematic album as Bedrock sounds at a speed of 10 bps down more close to the speed he choose now. Just that. I hope you enjoy it and if you don't, always have the original 😉

      @@sebastiantallon Hi, I wasn't knocking it, just wondered why. A much prefer what he played then to now but I feel that about most DJs. DJs used to warm up slower then increase the tempo as their set progressed and gathered momentum. I'm not a fan of any DJ who sticks to a rigid tempo. I actually his 99 essential mix that this mix was based on 😊👍

      @James Collingburn I know, about 8 years ago I was wondering why the speed of the beats was dropping in progressive djs, sometime between 2005 and 2008 this was quite pronounced and I have my own theory: it's a matter of space.
      When there is more space between beat and beat there can be more sounds that give more depth and complexity to the tracks, going faster leaves less room for other sounds, giving less body to the melodies.
      I go to Digweed's parties from 2004 to today and I have always really enjoyed analyzing his mixes and the background of the way he handles the crowd's climate.
      I slow this recording very bad, is not well done I did it in a rustic way and it does not sound very good but I just wanted to show that sometimes with time it is better to slow down a bit to better appreciate the time between each sound even if it sounds a bit melted.
      :)
