Global Underground's contribution to Dance music is unparalleled. What Digweed, Tenaglia, Oakenfold, Sasha, Satoshi Tomie and Deep Dish understood is, a DJ SET is about the journey and taking listeners to places they've never been before. Some good DJ's out there now playing good track after another, BUT they've lost the journey aspect of dance music.

Could not agree more. The journey has been, on the whole, lost as a concept with exception of DJs like Kollektiv Turmstrasse and a few others. I think the issue may also be to do with how similar productions are now because genres were a lot looser 20 years ago and DJs included a wider variety of tracks in their sets. The move away from analog to digital production is a factor too. And of course, there's the issue of BPM. Music always changes and comes back on itself and I'm hoping for a renaissance but whatever happens, the scene will never be what it was in the late 80s and 90s. Just be thankful we were there to experience it.

When I listened to this album for the first time, even when I was a huge fan of digweed but I didn't like it, I was more into melodic trance and even most of the progressive house I liked was different than this album so I just quite didn't get this album, I couldn't understand what digweed has done so I just put it away, but since I spent money on this so I decided to give it another chance, I listened to it again and I don't know what happened, it was like I was listening it for the first time and this music was unlike any other music I ever listened to, literally blew my mind, it was dark, wicked and the best mix I ever heard, it's been two decades now and it's still my most favorite album, no other mix comes close to this masterpiece. I can't even count how many times I have listened to this and it still feels as great as it felt that night so so long ago.

I remember this album well. The first track, after arguing with my dad after drinks on a May Bank Holiday. Bedroom, no fucking about, full blast on my Aiwa system. To be rudly interrupted and escorted out of my father's house. What a fucking mix it still is. ❤

I did something similar when this first was released. I was working up in San Francisco and was driving down to LA for new years and had just bought this mix. I left San Francisco to Sasha's GU 9, had something playing after while driving down the 5 and Digweed's GU19 started just before I hit the 405. Quite serendipitous timing and made it all the more memorable descending down into LA.

fact.. imagine hearing some of theses tracks on function 1!! there is tracks off both of theses cds that would fit perfectly in most techno sets theses says.. still though no one will ever create what John has done here.. The transitions are on a different level mixing wise..

that Satoshi's remix of "Mine to Give" to Simon's "Groove Is In The Air" transition is out of control, and these remixes are probably the best ones out there for those tracks. I saw Diggers at The House of Blues in Chicago during this album's release tour, and my buddy, who mind you is an avid Diggers follower, couldn't get into that set, and ended up leaving -- i said, there's not a chance i'm walking out of here.

Same friend also introduced me to DJ Dan who was kicking it at my friend's house after he had spun a set at Club Montage in San Diego... Someone there had also given DJ Dan a fat sack of K, and DJ Dan gave it to me and then spun a set for me on my friend's tables with some of his vinyl... The next day my friend gave me a CD that had the set DJ Dan spung for me...

Been wondering around youtube trying to find some old and new beats to listen too. Never lost my love for electronic music, now in my 40s. Unfortunately I've been abusing my ears with all these quick fix disposable beats. Then I thought, 'remember Digweed.' GU mix being the first thing that came up I stuck it on - literally the second it played the memories came rushing back and that excitement about dance music that I only felt in my early 20s along with them. Excellent mix, excellent era!

By far the finest and darkest progressive mix in GU discography and not only, both cd1 & especially cd2 which is a highly sophisticated sick mix. Cd1 is more of an intro of what is coming on the next disc.
Appreciated a lot, years later from it's release. The closest thing you can hear into how things were spinning on decks by this man at those years. These 2 sets re-present in a nice, acceptable but direct at the same time way, a glipmse of what was happenning in a 400 - 600 person John Digweed party back then.
But for a record by GU, thus large audionces, this album always was and also prooved itself as a masterclass by the man.
    Timeless

In the 2000 I was a VJ with a friend, Eduardo Aguinaga; his proyect´s name was 3-er Elemento (third Element) in Guadalajara, México. We was very good vjs -modest apart- so we had many work; so we had the oportunity to play visuals with so many greatest artists in only tree years, like Dany Tenaglia, Lee Buridge, Paul Van Dyk, dave Seaman, Sandra Collins, Sasha and others; but then we recibe the news: you gonna play visuals with Sir Mr John Digweed!!!!!!, Fk E!!!!,. So we work very hard in visuals; dvds, vhs, digital shit (was 2003, 2005), color graphics, move frames, gifs, for two weeks. we had the singularity that bout was very deep in cinema, visual arts and media. Then, it comes the D-day. By the morning, we recibe a call, was his manager. Mr. Digweed ask for NO colors in the visuals, no movies frames, no mandalas shit; only minimal graphics, geometry, gray, black, white, some oscure colors..... Doble Fk!!!!!!, in six hours, re made all set. We was there since 7 pm, so we had the chance to see him practice, puting everything in the right place, ajusting the turntables like a cientist. Pure magic. He put down more than a half of the lighs on the club, zero strobtic lights, no color, just the security lights on the floor!!. Then, the moment. Man, was soooooooo fkn hard, like a big rock in your back, amazing, like a digital wodoo night, sooooo deep, so dark, so dense, like if he was smashing us on the dance floor; the fkn visuals was so perfect with that. I was in E and I feel like if I gonna fluid with the ground. Amazing set. After all he said he likes or work, I hope was true. For my was one of mas best days on my life and it was with this LP so every time I listen this, I feel the rush on my hands and in my hart. Love for everybody. Free Palestine!!!!! Love from México!

Back in 02-03 I was hunkered down in the Mekong Delta in a hamlet called Don Xuan in Tra Cu Tra Vinh which took a good 6 hours of inching along various roads to get to Sai Gon. I would put on this CD max volume and rock the house! The sound traveled all over the place. The people were all around but would disappear. Strange, that! After I was gone I did a lot of watching what was going on, and the people were making this good stuff for themselves. They’re very good at copying and making it their own. Of course, John Digweed was known outside of Viet Nam. The Vietnamese have had a lot to overcome. They’re very good at that, too. To me they’re free to make things happen as fast as they can.
