Today i pick up a 1966 Ford thunderbird that has been neglected for years. The car was actually rescued from being turned into a parts car and having it stripped for its motor and transmission. Will it run? Of course it will, lets get another car revived and back on the road! #willitrun #ford #willitrun #revival #musclecar #classicar #carguys

You currently own my bucket list car. The 69 T- bird is it for me. I've had 67 w/a 390 and 68 with 429. The 385 series engine just made sense. If I can't have the 69 T-bird, then a 69 or 70 Lincoln Mark III would do in a pinch. Enjoy your ride. I'm jealous.

The 'Wing Window' was great for smokers. Just crank it open and the smoke exits out and your side window can remain up, which is helpful on a rainy day or if the A/C is on.
    Edit p.s.

That is a great looking Thunderbird, I hope you do a full resto, these days I think it is nice to do a sympathetic resto mod, up-grade the suspension, brakes and fuel system but try and keep the charm of the original. Any 50 year old vehicle that appears to have a small hole in the floor is likely to need major repairs once you get into the guts of it. Likely the inner rockers are crunchy and the floor pan where it meets the engine bay fire wall will be crusty too. If the front foot well is holed then the trunk floor will usually have the structural integrity of wet cardboard 🤣. But this all depends on the climatic region the car spent most of its life, guessing sub tropical texas will be kinder than Oregon or Alaska.

Back in the late 70's one of my cousins had a 60 something T-Bird best $100 car I ever road in. It hadn't moved in 6 months, The owner bitching it costs $50 for the tow and the Junkyard will only give me $50 for it so I make nothing. Car was ten years old and 100,000 miles worthless. He offered $100 and bought it. Waited 5 days for the Title to Clear, then drove it home. Was still driving it in the 80's

Check out vintage TBird for lots of help on repairs and stuff to look for. Lots of vaccum operated stuff like heater air conditioning parking brake… your missing vaccum line is probably connected to the main unit under the dash. Good luck. I have a 65 lots of fun driving, but about 10 mpg!

I didn't notice if you were able to slide the steering over. Just a tip, if you can, slide the steering over when you have it in park and leave it running...these birds are NOTORIOUS for slipping into reverse when the car is left running in park without sliding it over. I've seen some pretty funny videos of it :). If you slide it over it CAN'T slip out of park.
The parking brakes are vacuum I believe and rarely work with the miles of line running through it, it's rotted somewhere.
Anyway, enjoy it. I've got a 65 and absolutely love it.

I have owed my 66 Conv for over 43 Years now. 66 was the last year of uni/Body construction. Also for 66 you could have the “Q” Code 428 for a extra 64.55. Unfortunately the floor pans are
Probably going to have to be replaced. The Vin told you what engine tue car was born with, the 5th Digit in the vin will tell you, If you have a “Z” it was born with a 390, “Q” was the 428 CI. As far as brakes, Front were a 4 Piston Caliber system from Kelsey and drum in the rear. Also the “Warranty” tag will tell you Paint & Trim codes along with the transmission & DSO, ( District sales code). As far as transmissions the the Cruise O Matic was discontinued in mid November of 65 and the C-6 was the replacement.. also just a FYI Ford used wiring left over from the 65 Model year production. Again production started on the 66 Model year on August 2, 1965, If ur car was built between August and November 22, of 65 you will have 65 Wiring especially with the turn signals and brake lights. IMHO I would buy a shop manual, there easy to find & cost only about 25 Bucks or so. Glad to see ur saving this 1. I will be following. Good luck.

Okay, So I liked and subscribed… There are are a few reasons that throw hubcaps off the wheels: 1) low or improper tire pressure. 2) Worn out teeth on hubcap 3) Some steel wheels flex and others don’t. I would suggested checking out all of these factors and put the one with the best teeth (contact points) on the right rear.
Good job on those matching Goodyear tires…It really set it off. Did you know there are only two tire companies left Made in the U.S.A.? Goodyear and Cooper.

The windows not working is probably a relay under the driver side dash!

    • @somewhatfast
      @somewhatfast  ปีที่แล้ว

I will look into that, but when i apply power directly to the switch the lights flicker on all the windows the only one that will go down is driver side. And it wont go back up by itself. I watched A video where a guy took the motors apart and the shafts were all gunked up inside and sticking and just needed taken apart and cleaned. Ill probably try that out too. But first have to figure out if that relay is why im not getting power first.

No accessories? This says to me that you probably have "some" bad fuses, or a loose/corroded/blown fusible link. They are connected to the same bolt on the starter solenoid as the battery cable. On a T-Bird of that vintage, you should have an accessory relay, which is on the firewall, roughly half way across. Sounds like you have the firing order mixed up. (GM is one way, the rest of the industry is another) The 390 FE engine is legendary, and you should get 14 or more MPG highway. The gearing is incredibly tall, probably on the order of 2.90:1. I don't know what the ratio really is, but it is definitely a 9".

I would always disconnect the fuel line and check that fuel coming out of the freaking tank no matter what it's always going to have rust or some crap in it and that goes right into the carburetor not good I don't know if that's a 390 but those are good motors they boogie. And then the issue of the old carburetors of course is a float stick in is it full of junk inside good old carburetors I heard a slight exhaust leak when you kicked it over at one time yeah the carburetor probably needs a good cleaning. And the points could be corroded on there too it's hard to say with older cars. The old process of elimination. Either way not bad for 500 bucks man geez.

Excellent car, AS MY FATHER WOULD CALL IT, (MY BLACK BEAUTY)!!!! IM SURPRISED IT started after setn parked for so long, woooWW! 😳😲😵🤯😱 This kinda reminds me of my both of My dad's 1958 EDSELS were in storage at a western Nebr, potato celluar for several years, YOU'LD think that would be the BEST place to store them, THINK AGAIN, A BIGGGG NNNNOO NNOOOO. AS THESE CARS DIDNT HAVE 1 SINGLE EXHAUST TAIL PIPE MUFFLERS, BUT 2 EACH AND NEST OF MICE CLOOGED THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, SO WHEN WE FINNALLY GOT EM BOTH OUT TO OUR PLACE, WE TRIED STARTN THEM, THEY BOTH ALMOST STARTED ON THEIR OWN BUT NOT QUITE, AND THEM BEING EQUIPT WITH TELETOUCH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, DAD TOLD ME TO PULL HIM SO I DID, THESE TRANSMISSIONS ON THESE CARS WILL START ENGINE WHEN YOU ENGAGE INTO LOW GEAR BUT DON'T GO MORE THAN 25/30 MPH WITH THE KEY ON, AND DEPRESS ACCELERATOR IT WILL ENGAGE AND START. AND WE FINNALLY GOT IT STARTED IT WAS ALREADY DARK, WHEN WE GOT EM STARTED AND WE COULD hear AIR Exhaust leak loud over in the rear passanger side of the engine compartment, we could ALSO see a super red glow where the Y pipe hooks up to the manifold. Them damn mice plugged it up, 😭😭😭😭 so the next day I disconnected the Y- pipe and the engines started right up on its own afterwards. You know your car should also start going down a hill, if you do it the way I say to, Ford, Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln, T- Bird, from the mid 1950s thru about 1968, models have automatic transmissions that will engage.
I must say you got a great bird, hope you fix the electrical issues, take care of it, thanks for sharing this with me. 😉🤠👍
