Thanks for sharing your story. I bought a used 2021 Model Y Long Range back in October 2023 with just under 40k miles on it for a rather great price, I thought. I loved it (and still do love it, overall), but fast forward about 6 months and I got the same error message and issues you received. I honestly don't drive a lot in general, but after looking up the error code online, I worried I might need a total battery replacement. Sure enough, after diagnosis, it was determined that I did. I waited for about 3 weeks in total for them to have a replacement delivered and install the new battery. I was given a Model 3 loaner in the Seattle area (man, I'm really glad I went with the Model Y for its height and spaciousness! I felt your pain in getting out of your loaner). I knew about them giving out refurbed batteries in situations like these, but I was told I was given a new battery. I still don't know if I trust that information (They, too, charged my battery to 100% and it showed a range of 303 miles - again with a Long Range model). Granted, this is after Tesla was forced to drop sticker ranges to be a little more realistic. I guess what doesn't sit well with me in all of this is that I'm starting to see more and more people get issues like these. For a 2-3 year old car, in my case, and pretty low mileage at 40k, needing a full battery replacement already doesn't exactly instill confidence in the car's reliability going forward. To top that off, I'm seeing quite a few Teslas on used car lots with rather low mileage. Sure, my battery replacement was under warranty, like yours. But, will I need to worry about a replacement the second my car is no longer in warranty? I also can't get extended warranty service through Tesla in their app. It's the first time I've even considered purchasing an extended car warranty in my life, given that this situation has rattled me a little. I'm curious if you have concerns about battery reliability going forward as well. Thanks again for sharing.
We are new to the Tesla world. It really is a lifestyle change. Thank you SO much for the detailed chronicling of the good, the bad ,the ugly (such is life) and the joys of this paradigm shift in mobility. Your channel is a valued real-world glimpse of the terrain ahead.
I'm at around 13k miles right now in my Model Y. Thank you for sharing your experience! I will now be more prepared to handle the Tesla service centers and what to expect.
Trust me, you can't "handle" a Tesla service center. They will handle you. It doesn't always go well. Sometimes they find a way to void your warranty. Do you have any mods at all? Even if you don't, they may still accuse you of causing the failure.
Thanks Chris for this. I am running into the exact same issue that you had. Cliff notes version. 1. My Tesla Model 3 Performance @20k miles got this message. 2. Took to Tesla service and they advised that I needed a 'new' HV battery. But that I could continue driving the Tesla on a half charge as they were confident it could be recharged that level. That was incorrect assumption. Tesla could not be charged at all. Why did they get this wrong? 3. Said they ordered battery and it would take about 30 days to get there, but set up service appointment for 9/1/2022 to be on the safe side I guess. 4. Offered uber share credits and advised that did not have any loaner cars, but when they did they would contact me 5. I have a gas car so elected to just drive that around and keep my Tesla in the garage to keep it out of the elements at the outdoor Tesla lot. Initially, I loved my Tesla. But, now have serious reservations about it. I am concerned about their customer service, which is inconsistent. I am concerned that once I am out of warranty, the same issue very well may occur and I will be soaked with a $20k HV battery replacement. Anyway, I knew what I was getting into and accepted the risks. I bought a car with relatively new technology. No long term proven track record. I will see how things progress when the battery is replaced. Actually considering selling the vehicle for the reasons mentioned above. Just my experience and honest opinion.
Hmm. This sucks. Again if you got a good loaner in the meantime it’s not as bad but because your car isn’t in service you don’t get a loaner. Yeah not fun when things go wrong but no problem when nothing is wrong
Is it a long range model? probably $30k with labour to replace that battery. They are very fun cars but unless you're on a $200k+ salary, it's probably not the wisest purchasing decision. Most Tesla owners actually have a Tesla as a third or fourth car, not even as a second one!
at least all these happened under warranty. imagine having need to pay $15k because your battery died. Most people with just a 9 to 5 job would be destroyed.
Chris, you are so nice and calm throughout the battery ordeal of your NEW car. I would be so upset and livid. I was going to purchase a Tesla Y in 2013 so I have been watching your videos. I now changed my mind about getting a Tesla. They are just not ready.
I so much agree! Being 2 hours away from a service center and thought of going through these type of ordeals is not at all appealing. I too have a RX350 which is my 4th Lexus and NEVER a warranty claim or breakdowns
@Chris - Do you recommend buying a Rivian instead of Tesla today? Since you have driven a Rivian recently what would your advice be for some one looking to get a Tesla Model Y vs Rivian R1S?
@@jrhepburn1513 make sure Sentry Mode is turned off, also overheat protection (climate control) and sharing data. Disconnected any 3rd party apps like Stats and Teslafi or TezLab that can pole your Tesla and wake it up. Do not open your app as this will wake it up and lastly turn off Smart Summons. On a 7 or 8 day cruise I only lose 1% battery. Hope this help. A lot of this info can be found on the TMC forum. Take care. Fred San Diego Ca.
My wife is leaving the Sterling,Va service enter for the second time without completed service because the”replacement” part looks worse or more used than the damaged part on the vehicle now. Have to had that this a a replacement for part identified on our initial acceptance of out new 2022 model Y sport. The extra frustrating part is the first removal of out damaged part created a bow and misalignment of the original part that was placed back on the car and it is in better shape than what keeps being delivered and then we are told that uneven gaps are they way the vehicle is manufactured. She is really disappointed in the Tesla service and I don’t blame her.
All of you should deep thinking...IT'S REAL TRUE!! *Tesla Model 3 Total Cost After 10 Years =20k for Battery/10years + $ Suppercharged/Home (+) SERVICES/Maintainance = TOO MUCH?? *Hond/Toy 2024 Total Cost After 10 Years = 0,636k for 02-Battery/10years + $ Gas (+) SERVICES/Maintainance = VERY CHEAP!! Why... ??
Any update in the mileage you saw at 16:50 ? Mine is now randomly charged but only getting 200 miles at 88%. Same battery failure issue that you had and spotty responses from service.
@@EverydayChris I have a model 3 LR w/ same battery issue. Currently @ tesla service. I saw that they charged my battery to 90% (200 miles, which is usually around 300 miles prior to this happening). After messaging them they told me they wouldn't have the new battery until Aug 9. Confusing to say the least because they need the battery to be essentially dead to work on it.
Two year old, low mileage Tesla needs a new battery pack and there is a delay of a month or two due to demand. Does than mean many other drivers need new battery packs for a model released only three years ago This is the best argument for not buying an EV I have seen yet. Incidentally, is it really that difficult to get out of?
Same! My TeslaY died on the 6th - decreased power then nothing. Called roadside and the took it to Irvine. (Tow guy said it was the 7th Tesla he had picked up that day) Got a loaner and after 6 days ... finally got looked at - diagnosed. Something with the 12V battery ... more diagnoring needed. Estimated to be done on the 26th --- Ahhhhh! This happened when it wasn't even a month old - just picked it up on June 11th! Super frustrating!
This is making me nervous about getting my Model Y Performance in a couple weeks.... is this a rare issue or is this super common? I have the home charger and planned on charging to 85% and always plugging it in when not in use... will that help?
I thought it was rare but a lot of viewers are saying the same. But still with the amount of cars they produce it’s rare. And people will go on these forums if they have an issue. I have about 10 friends with model ys and none of them have this issue. Charging won’t help with a dead cell. It’s just bad luck
@@DigiDriftZone yes I’ve had it for about 7 months… about 11000 miles in my wife takes it to work and we have had no issues. Charging at home is super convenient. The car is so much fun to drive, in traffic my wife loves to use autopilot NY traffic can be a lot… charge it to 80% every charge… we could probably get away with charging ever other day but we leave on sentry mode for security purposes so that uses more battery. Get a lot less range in the cold but I think that’s expected
So glad that after the potential for real drama, it looks like (fingers crossed 🤞) things will turn out well. We will look forward to how range adjusts after charging cycles. Thanks again for all your videos, very helpful.
Our Model Y is in for Service at 32,000 miles for a new HV battery. Went in yesterday with an estimated return on November 18th! Don't have a loner yet, and they said they would get one as soon as one came in. Wife drives the thing about 30,000 miles a year so worried about longevity in the future being out of warranty, and something like this happens again. Having to replace the whole battery seems like a ridiculous solution. What's stopping the same thing from happening again and again. Hopefully they know why this is occurring and the refurbed models and new batteries coming out have fixed the issue, otherwise it would just be too big of a risk to hold onto one of these if warranty expires.
Oh, god, I totally feel your pain. Glad your car got fixed! I had the worse service experience from Tesla service center! My car sit there for 5 days and the technician only spent 10 minutes on it and told me they wouldn’t do anything! Without loaner, no communication! It super sucked!
In the UK it is £12k ($14.6k) to get an old battery that already failed in another Tesla and was repaired (you also must give them your battery so they can repair and use that for the next customer). So that's a "low cost" option if you just want to get it drivable and sell. New batteries will likely last 8 years if you are very careful and use it between 20 and 80% charge, less if you frequently super charge. The old refurb batteries, who knows, but they will repair them for 4 years free of charge.
Thanks so much Chris for this video series. I love your approach to telling us about this and you do a great job. Glad you’re back on the road with your model Y. I sure hope Elon and Tesla take this to heart and improve the service. It still makes me a little nervous about getting my Model Y that’s on order. Thanks again!
Hmm, I'd much rather have buttons. Much easier than searching through menus, but then you're young, sadly I'm old! My understanding is that Tesla will always replace the complete battery pack. It is then sent away for dismantling and rebuild which is a specialist job beyond service centres. Kudos to Tesla for the battery and drive train guarantee and honouring it so readily. US customer service ethos tends to show some of our up in a bad light.
@@EverydayChris the model 3 is more energy efficient than the Y. I wouldn't be mad because I get an additional year warranty. That goes for something. And the range wilk change after the car recalibrate it based on your driving.
My take is if the car is 3 years or newer from in-service date, you should get a brand new battery. Older than 3 years, a refurbished is satisfactory. The car is too new at less than 3 years to be given the exact same refurbished battery they would give to a 7 or 8 year old car.
Thanks for sharing this video. I had no idea what to do when I had the same issue two weeks ago. They're still waiting for a new battery pack to be shipped to them. No stress coz they gave me a Model S.
Hey bro. I have a 2023 MYLR that I got in August. I love the car but unfortunately I'm at around 9700 miles and it no longer wants to charge. We only have one SC here in Richmond so my service appointment is almost two weeks out!🙄😳. Tesla definitely needs to step up their service game.
Hey Chris, I would love to see your comparison between your Model Y and Lexus RX. I was considering the RX before getting my model Y. Received my model Y end of June. Watched every single one of your videos while waiting for the car. Youbare awesome. Keep up the good work my man!
Love your videos. We probably live near you.... in Irvine. We have a Model Y on order but am a little worried that it may be too early to drive one for people like us. We are not "car" people, we have no interest in the "nuts and bolts", we just want a vehicle that works with normal upkeep. We keep cars for at least 10 years and expect them to run without tinkering with them. Our gasoline 2007 Lexus and 2012 Nissan never give us any problems. Is a Tesla a good choice for us in 2022? Thanks.
Do you do alot of road trips? Or is it more local drives? Irvine has chargers everywhere so you can get away with any car brand. But Tesla does a great job with charging and self driving features
If you are happy to pay $20k-30k for a new battery pack every 5-8 years, then it's a very fun car, but it's a price you should factor in early on in your buying decision so there is no shock when the repair bill comes.
Sorry to hear this happened to your Model Y. Just got my Model Y Performance last April mainly because of your wonderful reviews and Ryan Shaw's. However, I'm now not too confident with my purchase. I'll wait for the final outcome of your car.. hopefully everything turns out well. Best of luck buddy.
Once you get the correct firmware update, you should see the 326 miles. These teslas were 310 mile range and after the range boost 326. They will talk to you about that.
Do an actual range test though, Tesla were caught showing a larger than real range to avoid warranty repairs, there are quite a lot of videos about it. If your actual range is significantly less than the bogus firmware shows, you may be eligible for a battery replacement.
Having once worked at Apple, phones reconditioned, yes, but battery is new in the reconditioned phone, I have a feeling it is the same with your Tesla battery (sort of), the difference here is, there are a ton of parts involved with a Tesla battery outside of the cells... so you probably have new battery cells in reconditioned packaging, I would not worry about that, take the win, it is way better than a once new battery (and casing) with 30k miles!
The iPhone batteries are only a few dollars in raw materials + labour. The Tesla batteries are more like $20k (LR) and sold for $30k, so this unfortunately is not what they do. They take a battery that already failed in another Tesla, repair it, and use it as a replacement under warranty. The battery you may get may actually be older than your one with less life left potentially as they repair your one and use it for the next Tesla with a dead battery.
@ everyday Chris , you said Everytime you get a brand new iphone it's not a new phone it's also refurbished. Did you mean to say a brand new iphone battery?? I can live with that but if a new model iphone comes out and I buy it I expect that it is brand new and not refurbished
I know you get lots of comments on your videos so thank you for taking the time to respond. Tomorrow I'm test driving the M3 performance !!! The test drive was an hour. That car is beyond fast !!! 0-60 in 3.1 sec. Passing was beyond a breeze. They limited the speed to 85 mph , I'm glad I was hitting 85 very quick. When I first pressed the accelerator I actually got nauseous for a second. Then I new what to expect. It is just a screen in there but I'm ok with that. My head was a little hot but the AC worked fine. Yes I think I'm sold 😎😎 I actually enjoy one pedal driving it is relaxing especially with the hold feature
I can't wait to see how this turned out. Logged into my Tesla account today to see my expected delivery is now July 27-Aug. 10. Wonder what I am getting myself into.
You're getting yourself into an amazing experience that you will never forget. Even with problems like what Chris is going through, I'd be willing to bet he wouldn't buy anything else. These types of issues are extremely rare. You hear about a lot of them because TH-cam. How many of the 1M Tesla owners have no issues at all? They wouldn't be so far behind on production if these issues were common.
@@JasonRosensweig Thanks, Jason. Unfortunately, it looks Ike battery issues are a major issue in the EV industry, not just limited to Tesla. What really bothers me is Tesla's overall approach to customer service. But, I am willing to roll the dice.
@@EverydayChris I think that is what a lot of people are worried about.. What happens after 50k miles and something like this goes wrong. who wants to shell out $15-20k, it makes me second guess myself in getting one..
@@happyhippo1710 I stand to be corrected, but, I believe when a "battery pack craps out" the problem can be quite a small issue. The service centre obviously are "fitters" - installers. Chris's battery would have been sent to a specialised department for repair and then its suddenly "refurbished". You Americans already have third party specialists that can solve your battery pack problems without costing you the big bucks or "writing off the car".
Hi Chris, glad to see you got your “Daddy” back and that everything seems to be working fine again. I don’t remember if you have any electronic aftermarket accessories but, if you do, did the Tesla service people “suggest” that your battery problems might have been caused by those accessories? A few days after I first got my model y, I had some minor issues with the images on the screen trembling and I would have to reset the system for the problem to go away and at the local service center they refused to diagnose it any further unless I removed the aftermarket screen swiveling base I had installed, as well as the TopFit center console docking station as they claimed those could be causing the problem…
I got a model S loaner once when my model 3 was in for a repaint. I took model s loaner on a 2000 mile road-trip with free supercharging. I miss the 2019 tesla days. Lol.
I’ve had the same experience with TeslaService communication. Made appt thru app. They rescheduled 2x without any prior notification, then cancelled and said just come into the Service Center. 😖 Could have gone in weeks earlier if they’d said so to begin with w/o this aggravation.
Wow that’s great. It sounds like Tesla service did a good job. After hearing so many horror stories. Not an experience of mine. I’m glad to see they are getting you a loaner and replacing your battery.
Mine just started taking a crap tonight. I'm hoping the Florida sc is as quick and has a loaner. I'm going to need something besides Uber credits because that will be gone in a few days with my travel to work.
Hey new follower my window opens in 3 days if nothing changes.. but why do you say don't charge to 100 unless you charge right away? I planned on charging to 100 every day at home ? Any recommendations what I should watch first before I take my vehicle..hope vin comes soon ... I already saw your tint and accessories video thanks and keep up the great work
If you have an lfp battery and it says 0-100 you can charge to 100 daily but it has daily and trip in the charging section don’t charge to 100 everyday 80-90 is fine
My 2021 Y Performance has 32,000 miles presently and my battery range at the beginning of the year 2022 was about 280 at 100%. As the months went by the range has been decreasing rapidly in the past 3 months! July it was around 268 and in September it was around 264 now it’s 247 miles at 100% as of October 11,2022. What’s crazy is 3 days ago it was 254 miles at 100%. I haven’t been physically charging at 100% but adjusting the app to see the range. My service appointment is October 17th 2022. When new, I only got 295 miles at 100%. I had to go to the service center to talk to them twice because they don’t respond and I also hit my head hard on the back hatch because I am a little over 6 feet tall. I also am having trouble with my charging limit. When I set it to 90% charge limit it either under charge or over charge by about 3%. I tried to recalibrate per Tesla advice but nothing worked. Thanks for sharing.
Even when I try to go slow in Tesla it doesn't work according to the speedometer 😅 I'll be driving thinking I'm going about 50 to 60 and then see I'm going 80+
On my wife Tesla long range Y she purchased in Nov21 today Jul15,22 she got 14,000 miles on 100% bat she only gets 312 miles, when we first got Tesla it was like 328miles so meaning she lost 16 miles in 7 month!!! Don’t know if it is normal or not or how to calibrate battery, when I had service adviser here at my home in Fl to fix side camera he told me it is because battery adjusting to the way you guys drive to how you more accurate miles per day 100% charge, which I think complete BS. Please let me know your thoughts, and if you know how to calibrate battery please help!!! Thank you! Hope we not going to loose another 16 miles of range in the next 6 month
They did say about 10 percent loss but for us it was only like a2-3 percent loss with the old pack. They do say it’s based on driving as well but recalibrating is the best way. Will let you know after a few weeks
I ask the service center , the car is geofence and when your drive to the lot , the app will automatically switch in service :-), Also have a standard model Y standard and the battery is also being investigated right now , also a year old
@@EverydayChris Finally getting my car tomorrow, so happy to have it back , they told me it is a remanufactured battery meaning the insides are new but they use the same outer shell, but I would think if its a new battery I would have full range but its 12 miles lower , it’s actually lost 5 miles before the battery was replaced. I will ask them when I go pickup tomorrow,
Whao! Pardon for your inconvenience. Enjoy watching your channel at time. I think you may live close to my business I had just sold a few months ago. Hope you get your Y back on the road soon.
Awesome video! Very informative! Only have had my Model Y, 2 months now. I’ve been charging it to 80% only nightly. Interesting seeing inside the Model S. Yeah, too many buttons! Good to know that info on Tesla loaner cars. Thanks! 👍
When you mentioned the 'Marry Me Today' music, I laughed out loud in my living room. That model S loaner would be plenty for me since I haven't yet owned the tesla. All those buttons would work great for an old fashioned person like me having never owned an EV of any kind. Glad your battery situation worked out even though you had to wait a while. It's nerve-racking to say the least.
Glad it worked out for you especially with getting a loaner, hopefully the refurbished battery holds up in the long run. I fortunately had a good experience with service when it was time to fix the issues I found at delivery. They were able to get me a MS loaner which was cool but definitely solidified my love of my Y. Did they tell you if your warranty for the replacement starts with the date of install ?
Good luck with the refurbished battery. Since it was rebuilt and installed by Tesla and not another company, the battery will be probably be like brand new. It is unfortunate to hear about the Customer Service experience. This is what happens sometimes in large corporations. Even if you find a company representative that helps you out, the other employees in other departments or on other shifts will not put the extra effort or even a normal effort to keep the process moving forward.
@@EverydayChris Surprised they didn't up their game, considering you are a higher profile (TH-camr), I was a service manager for a car franchise, the Rep told me to let them know if the customer getting warranty work done was the local mayor or similar.
Unfortunately not, because of the cost of the cells, they simply check the voltage and if the cell is good, they leave it. So you can in reality end up with an older pack with less life left than the one that failed in your vehicle (or a newer one, luck of the draw).
This seems to be a common issue now, I just had this happen to me at 23k miles and have an appointment Oct. Why are batteries going bad? Im worried these batteries won’t last now. I know they are having issues with the newer cells. What’s going on, is this vehicle going to be reliable? I don’t want a reconditioned battery either 😢
My understanding is that you won't be getting a new battery....you'll get a "reconditioned" battery which could have considerably more miles of use on it vs the one you had that went bad and you may end up with a lower range than you had before. Imagine that your battery went bad at 10K miles and they give you a reconditioned battery that has the equivalent of 60K miles on it. Nice.
Thank you for bringing us along on this journey. Glad you got your ride back! 😁 Why was the Y being towed like that. I thought they need to be on a flatbed only 🤔
There are 2 options to tow a Tesla - I asked when mine got towed. Flatbed and these mini wheeled bases they put under the back tires after they prop up the front. Car is suspended so wheels never touch the ground. Tow guy said its safer because they don't have to drag your car up the ramp of the flatbed. Just passing on info they gave me :)
I watched a lot of your videos and this is the first time that I noticed you are so attached to your physical belongings. Another is you do worry a lot even though you sound laid back. I knew about Tesla panel gaps, bad communication with services, thin paint layer, more frequent tire(s) replacement, but I bought a Tesla and didn't complain about anything with them. My car was in service with less than 3k miles and they had my car for 13 days. I didn't get a rental car and I showed up at 7 AM. My expectations is very low for Tesla. I don't expect for them to wow or pleased me. I drove my Acura MDX and continue with my life before buying my Tesla. Do I regret in buying one? No. I do miss driving the car when it was in service, but I don't let it take over my hours. My advice to you is to not be attached to materials. Take events that you don't like and turn it into a positive outcome. I would have loved to see how your journey went with the loaner...how your journey went with the RX...the contents would have been awesome, but it all stopped at the Model Y being in service. I could careless about the Model Y, I like watching your journey with your gf and dogs more.
Interesting vid since l was considering a Tesla. However, ultimately decided on the Lexus Rx 350 F Sport. Best decision l ever made! It's a beautiful car! I totally disagree about it not moving fast when you press on the gas. Mine is a beast when l'm in either traffic or the highway when it comes to speed, so much so that l have to keep my eye on the odometer regularly Lol, that's not to mention the handling which is amazing! l still like the "idea" of the Tesla, but totally agree with one of your other commenters to breathe and not be so attached to things that don't last and are upgraded so fast that folks can barely keep up. At the end of the day, although cool to own, it's just a car, not life! Stay well!

Thank you!
A car is transportation not a lifestyle 😂😂😂
How are things working out? Do you still have the vehicle?
@@DigiDriftZoneyou can get these batteries now 10kish
Chris, you are so nice and calm throughout the battery ordeal of your NEW car. I would be so upset and livid. I was going to purchase a Tesla Y in 2013 so I have been watching your videos. I now changed my mind about getting a Tesla. They are just not ready.
It’s up and down but overall happy
I so much agree! Being 2 hours away from a service center and thought of going through these type of ordeals is not at all appealing. I too have a RX350 which is my 4th Lexus and NEVER a warranty claim or breakdowns
@Chris - Do you recommend buying a Rivian instead of Tesla today? Since you have driven a Rivian recently what would your advice be for some one looking to get a Tesla Model Y vs Rivian R1S?
Hmm depends. For road-trips which we love I would say Tesla. But rivian is so cool
Did you play for the New York Knicks...?
lol it was funny you zoomed in on Simba. Glad you got it all sorted, even though it wasn't exactly what you'd hoped.
Why do you need your cellphone navigation when you drive a Tesla?

This is true
My wife is leaving the Sterling,Va service enter for the second time without completed service because the”replacement” part looks worse or more used than the damaged part on the vehicle now. Have to had that this a a replacement for part identified on our initial acceptance of out new 2022 model Y sport. The extra frustrating part is the first removal of out damaged part created a bow and misalignment of the original part that was placed back on the car and it is in better shape than what keeps being delivered and then we are told that uneven gaps are they way the vehicle is manufactured. She is really disappointed in the Tesla service and I don’t blame her.
Yeah I hate when they fix something only to ruin something else

Any update in the mileage you saw at 16:50 ? Mine is now randomly charged but only getting 200 miles at 88%. Same battery failure issue that you had and spotty responses from service.
Your model y? At full charge my my is at 318 now started at 316. It changes based on your driving
Yeah even that takes a few days so not sure why they would charge it up.
Super frustrating!
man that sucks
Did they say what the problem was?
they said a bad cell usually
I love my tesla, but if this happened to me I would of freaked out. I wish you the best.
How do they still see you when you go before your scheduled appointment time? Are they cool with that?
depending on how urgent it is they will fit you in but may take a day or so
This is making me nervous about getting my Model Y Performance in a couple weeks.... is this a rare issue or is this super common? I have the home charger and planned on charging to 85% and always plugging it in when not in use... will that help?
I thought it was rare but a lot of viewers are saying the same. But still with the amount of cars they produce it’s rare. And people will go on these forums if they have an issue. I have about 10 friends with model ys and none of them have this issue. Charging won’t help with a dead cell. It’s just bad luck
Did you end up getting your Model Y? Any issues?
@@DigiDriftZone yes I’ve had it for about 7 months… about 11000 miles in my wife takes it to work and we have had no issues. Charging at home is super convenient. The car is so much fun to drive, in traffic my wife loves to use autopilot NY traffic can be a lot… charge it to 80% every charge… we could probably get away with charging ever other day but we leave on sentry mode for security purposes so that uses more battery. Get a lot less range in the cold but I think that’s expected
I am glad you didn't have any hard time on the service center and loaning another vehicle. drive safe.
So glad that after the potential for real drama, it looks like (fingers crossed 🤞) things will turn out well. We will look forward to how range adjusts after charging cycles. Thanks again for all your videos, very helpful.
Thanks David!
I really appreciate your candid coverage of this incident sprinkled in with your great advice.
Thanks Robert!
I agree.
I hope your battery issues are solved. Keep us updated on reconditioned battery.
Will do!
Thanks for the follow up. yeah, it's be nice to have a new battery but hopefully they tested the reconditioned battery to verify it's good to go.
I hope so!
Glad you’re back on the road. Hopefully that battery is better and lasts.
sir whats that device on your steering wheel
Something that nobody sells anymore and we shouldn’t use
@@EverydayChris I don’t believe that share sir lol
Been in the service since 7/9 for the same exact issue. Still no ETA on the parts
Oh, god, I totally feel your pain. Glad your car got fixed! I had the worse service experience from Tesla service center! My car sit there for 5 days and the technician only spent 10 minutes on it and told me they wouldn’t do anything! Without loaner, no communication! It super sucked!
Does anyone know what the cost would be to replace this battery if it were not under warranty right now out the door?
Prob 20k
In the UK it is £12k ($14.6k) to get an old battery that already failed in another Tesla and was repaired (you also must give them your battery so they can repair and use that for the next customer). So that's a "low cost" option if you just want to get it drivable and sell.
New batteries will likely last 8 years if you are very careful and use it between 20 and 80% charge, less if you frequently super charge. The old refurb batteries, who knows, but they will repair them for 4 years free of charge.
Why do the motor overheat
Hot weather
@@EverydayChris don't you believe that you are made in god's image dah
Hi Chris, be interesting to know, what a brand new battery price is, and the price of the refurbished battery.
I think even if you pay for one 15-20k it’s going to be refurbished
@@EverydayChris But they only charge you the battery if the 8 year/120 miles battery warranty expires correct?
Correct this was all free for me
Thanks so much Chris for this video series. I love your approach to telling us about this and you do a great job. Glad you’re back on the road with your model Y. I sure hope Elon and Tesla take this to heart and improve the service. It still makes me a little nervous about getting my Model Y that’s on order. Thanks again!
Thanks jean!
Buy a Toyota hydrogen car. Much better quality and no toxic lithium battery.
Can you do a review of how your tesla drives compared to the tesla mode s?
I have one with the Lucid coming soon!
Chris, what was your range before the refurb battery install? A new MYLR looks to be 318mi with the Induction wheels.
323-326 with Gemini wheels at 100 percent
@@EverydayChris ah well it's close at least. I get 358 with my M3LR so if a battery swap only gave me 315 I would be piiiiiisssed lol.
Wow
@@EverydayChris the model 3 is more energy efficient than the Y. I wouldn't be mad because I get an additional year warranty. That goes for something. And the range wilk change after the car recalibrate it based on your driving.
Thank you! Yeah hopefully it gets better
Please do the RX Comparison
Having buttons dont make a car ancient i rather have buttons for like the mirrors and other pratical applications..😂😂
My take is if the car is 3 years or newer from in-service date, you should get a brand new battery. Older than 3 years, a refurbished is satisfactory. The car is too new at less than 3 years to be given the exact same refurbished battery they would give to a 7 or 8 year old car.
I agree. Which is why I was surprised it was refurbished
Thanks for sharing this video. I had no idea what to do when I had the same issue two weeks ago. They're still waiting for a new battery pack to be shipped to them. No stress coz they gave me a Model S.
awesome. yeah give it a few months too for the range to come back
Hey bro. I have a 2023 MYLR that I got in August. I love the car but unfortunately I'm at around 9700 miles and it no longer wants to charge. We only have one SC here in Richmond so my service appointment is almost two weeks out!🙄😳. Tesla definitely needs to step up their service game.
good to know that the replacement HV battery continues your standard warranty period + a year
Hey Chris, I would love to see your comparison between your Model Y and Lexus RX. I was considering the RX before getting my model Y. Received my model Y end of June. Watched every single one of your videos while waiting for the car. Youbare awesome. Keep up the good work my man!
Tanks man! Good to know
Love your videos.
Good luck!
Once you get the correct firmware update, you should see the 326 miles. These teslas were 310 mile range and after the range boost 326. They will talk to you about that.
Thanks Fred from San diego
Do an actual range test though, Tesla were caught showing a larger than real range to avoid warranty repairs, there are quite a lot of videos about it. If your actual range is significantly less than the bogus firmware shows, you may be eligible for a battery replacement.
The error message 'unable to charge, maximum charge level reached' with 30 miles range showing is the one to wait for
Having once worked at Apple, phones reconditioned, yes, but battery is new in the reconditioned phone, I have a feeling it is the same with your Tesla battery (sort of), the difference here is, there are a ton of parts involved with a Tesla battery outside of the cells... so you probably have new battery cells in reconditioned packaging, I would not worry about that, take the win, it is way better than a once new battery (and casing) with 30k miles!
Interesting! Good to know!
Yeah it’s new just when you use Apple care and they get you a new one it’s refurbished

@@happyhippo1710 I stand to be corrected, but, I believe when a "battery pack craps out" the problem can be quite a small issue. The service centre obviously are "fitters" - installers. Chris's battery would have been sent to a specialised department for repair and then its suddenly "refurbished".

They didn’t care about anything. Not even my hard wire radar detector aftermarket led lights etc

It’s an extra year or 10,000 miles but it continues on current warranty
Yeah they need to work on it
@@EverydayChris Surprised they didn't up their game, considering you are a higher profile (TH-camr), I was a service manager for a car franchise, the Rep told me to let them know if the customer getting warranty work done was the local mayor or similar.
I don’t want a reconditioned battery either 😢
how much is the important question
It’s in the video! But it was free
Nice.
Didn’t Apple get sued for that?
Thank you for bringing us along on this journey. Glad you got your ride back! 😁
Why was the Y being towed like that. I thought they need to be on a flatbed only 🤔
I agree. Not sure
@@SeriouslyJava good info. Hope to never need 😏
This was a helpful video! Thank you!
Had this happen to my Tesla LR M3 2021 at 16,000 miles today
Amen. Need to detach and not care. Health is wealth
Stay well!
Haha true glad you’re happy with it for years to come!
