HAPPY DECEMBER 7TH EVERYONE!!! Instead of participating in Vlogmas this year, i'll be dedicating all my December uploads to THRIFTMAS! I'll be posting daily vlogs in the lead up to Christmas, and i'll only be posting about THRIFT SHOPPING!!! Videos like.... Thrift flip, thrift haul, thrift with me, thrift makeover, thrift store challenge, Christmas thrift, anything and everything I can think of to get into the holiday spirit while keeping costs low and keeping my consumption sustainable!
In todays video I head out to the Northern Beaches in Sydney and visit 10 different thrift stores, including Goodwill, Lifeline, The Salvos, Vinnies, Anglicare Op Shop & more!! I picked up a wide range of homewares, clothing and gifts including vintage items, quirky and unique finds, boring things to flip and a bunch of pastel items too! For anyone looking to visit the stores in todays video, these are the locations:

My mum has one of those penguin glasses. You put peanuts and snacks in them so you can pick up the jar and tip some out and eat snacks that people haven't been sticking their fingers in

I remember her once saying that they were, financially, a terrible match because he would enable her to buy anything. X-D You know it's going to be a good haul when Sam comes along.

I have a brother like that. When things get back to normal I really need to go on a shopping trip with him. It's been so long.
I cannot understand how anyone other than a florist needs this many vases. I like the thrifting theme. The clothes in this one made me happy.
I literally had a dream starring the prettypastel gang last night. Alex was temporarily moving to japan to marry a billionaire who owned a submarine and Daniel was fine with it because the billionaire was old so Alex would inherit all the money and go back to Australia so Daniel moved in with Sam. I’ve maybe been binging too much prettypastelplease but I do like the soap opera storyline my brain made them star in. Dream Alex did a whole video about it. Day one of thriftmas I went thrift shopping. Day seven it appears I’m just dreaming messed up soap opera lives for everyone.
I had a dream with Alex in it once, but it wasn't that interesting! lol

That weigh for the clothes price is such a good idea! Also can't believe how much bigger your charity shops are than ours in the UK
Depends where you are, most town/city shops are pretty small but the furniture shops tend to be bigger. I used to work in my local one and it was about the size of the one Alex says is massive, because it had part of its display space in what was meant to be the warehouse. It also had an upstairs.
We have lots of them in the suburbs which are the same size as UK ones. In fact I’d say most of them are smaller size. Alex is just hitting up all the bigger ones.
Look up charity shop warehouses. They tend to be on industriial estates on the outskirts of town. They are massive and take in all the furniture, but have other stuff too. However its not curated like the high street charity shops, so its just rails and rails of everything for a quid.
Farleigh hospice ones seem to be particularly good! There is one on the estate behind the supermarket in thrtoen i used to live in. As you can imagine i woulkd spend longer in the charity shop than the supermarket 😆
I don't really like the system of paying for clothes by their weight actually because then people who are larger sizes will end up having to pay more for their clothes just because they are larger sizes and have more fabric

I have an x like Sam. We dated for couple of years and I truly love him to bits but we realised when we discussed marriage we made better friends than lovers so 18months later he married a lass from church and 2years Mark I married HIS BEST FRIEND 40+ years later he's still my side kick and partner in rhyme as my husband describes us.sadly his marriage failed but yep I've got a "Sam" in my life and I wouldn't give him up for the world

My son, who is 5, asked if we could fly to Australia to go shopping with you. Why? Because you always find such beautiful things. OMG, so sweet. Whom ever he spends his life with will be blessed with an excited shopping partner. Lol

I was thinking the same thing...a vintage treadle sewing machine, in what looks like pretty sweet condition, for 200 bucks?...absolute bargain!!
unfortunately a lot of them end up being stripped down and turned into hall/console tables or desks, with the machine-head sent to the scrappers, which is a crying shame, because they are the perfect machine to learn to sew on, as they're pretty much "bullet proof" and they sew really nicely. I'd "kill" for one, if I had the spare cash and the room...
Still have two old singer machines in perfect condition one is the original hand crank the other the treacle in its table. I use them in place of my brand new modern all singing all dancing electric one. In fact gave my daughter the very expensive new one much to my husband's dismay

I love watching places that are returning to normal. I love thrifting. I miss thrifting. These are small little gems of hope in my day.

I have that green IKEA deer! The year after they had a pastel pink one, so they're out there! I've always thought about spray painting mine, but it's been years now and it hasn't happened, lmao.

Alex....all of your thrifting videos--for thriftmas and otherwise--have inspired me greatly to 1. be more sustainable, 2. repurpose items, and 3. find amazing gifts for others. I made sure my family was okay with it, and they are, so this year I am thrifting a lot of items to give as Christmas presents. Some items will be given as is and I am planning on flipping a few things too. Thank you for all you do and share with us.

Goodwill is the best thrift store in my area. I also love going to antique stores because they are all technically used!
This series is inspiring me to do some thrift shopping (there is a one a couple minute drive from where I live) when ✨The pandemic✨ is at least calmed down in Utah (the state I live in)

I live in Canada, I'm surprised by the cost of some (not all) of these items. Do you find that also? Typically thrift glassware is $10 CDN or under here.
@Paulette Emtsuj nah, Canadian dollar is worth more than the Australian dollar, exchange rates aren't in our favour.
Idk if it’s the same elsewhere but where I live in Aus I basically never thrift since the difference in price between new and second hand isn’t enough to justify the amount of time it takes to find something you like 🤷♀️
I never thought I would watch someone else thrift for 20 mins, but it’s 2020, I’m immune compromised and haven’t been able to thrift all year, so this has partly scratched the itch! Thanks guys!

Had the same effect on me but I’m in Australia. Ended up with 52 items 🙈 no car so had to keep dropping things home but luckily they were all pretty close by. Bye bye $170

Yeah, moving house in two weeks from a tiny studio by myself to a big two bedroom with my partner. Never needed or had space for decor so super excited

Are they not sure what other countries ones are like. I went op shopping yesterday for Devore and homewares and bought 52 items at an average of $3.30. Lots of tea light holders, serving trays, vases and other similar decor
Too true. Im like looking at these vases and mirrors and going white in horror at the prices because they are most certainly overpriced.

The prices 100% depend on which area you’re in. More affluent suburbs will be more expensive, but the stock will also be a bit nicer.

The bear statue you where holding in goodwill is sooo expensive!!! It is the bear of berlin and one of those statues cost like 300-500 $.

apparently the smaller ones are not terribly expensive, more like, around 20$ (like the one found by alex), but the bigger ones... are a different story xD

Gosh there were so many things I wanted to just reach in and grab! That sewing machine! Those milk glass vases! Also, I think Sam should host op shopping/ thrifting tours and accompany people to give support and encouragement ( and laughs ) as they shop.

I've been loving watching these thriftmas videos in a popout window while playing my games. the music is very chill and it doesnt require 100% of m attention, but is more entertaining than just playing music. a nice medium between a background music playlist, and a haul video. almost like a podcast, but less demanding
Back in the 80’s ( yes I’m old) , I used to go to a thrift shop here in America that sold clothes by the pound. It was all just in a big bin and you had to just dig thru it to find stuff.
They’re called goodwill outlets.

I know I'm super late but I love the videos, I feel so immersed as if I'm there too looking for cute vases and great finds. This is definitely an inspiration to look into thrifting. I was actually pretty scared to look and for buy things second hand but, I'm so excited to give it a try one day!
