    HAPPY DECEMBER 8TH EVERYONE!!! Instead of participating in Vlogmas this year, i'll be dedicating all my December uploads to THRIFTMAS! I'll be posting daily vlogs in the lead up to Christmas, and i'll only be posting about THRIFT SHOPPING!!! Videos like.... Thrift flip, thrift haul, thrift with me, thrift makeover, thrift store challenge, Christmas thrift, anything and everything I can think of to get into the holiday spirit while keeping costs low and keeping my consumption sustainable!
    In todays video, I show you all the items that I purchased when I visited 10 different thrift stores in Sydneys Northern Beaches, including the first Goodwill i've ever been to! I plotted out my op shop route based on what time the stores open and close, as well as driving essentially in a straight line from one side of the Northern Beaches to the other! I picked up a wide range of homewares, clothing & Christmas presents including vintage items, quirky and unique finds, boring things to flip and a bunch of pastel items too! For anyone looking to visit the stores I went to, check out Thriftmas Day 7 ( • I WENT TO 10 THRIFT ST... )
    For anyone looking to visit the stores where I bought the items in todays video, these are the locations:
    Vinnies Balgowlah
    Salvos Balgowlah
    Salvos Brookvale
    Vinnies Brookvale
    Lifeline Brookvale
    Goodwill Brookvale

    The “at home or on safari” is from a English pottery company called Henry Watson! They’ve been a company since 1800.

      yes, each of them (in this style) retail for about £15-20 each... so, an ok deal on the lot of 2.

      My mom loves those hand-blown glass balls, and they typically retail (where I am) for $30-$40 USD each, so even though $8 each feels pricey, it's really really not.

    • @teresacarle294
      @teresacarle294 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      😁LOL. Glass, porcelain, ceramics has always been my family's kryptonite. My 💖parents were into modern, Japanese, mcm & chinoserie.
      😢Inherited their mass collection of kitchenware & decor that they lovingly gathered over their lifetime. Most of their items are in ◾black & ◽white, but they do have a smattering in🔹️indigo blue & 🍥pink. (👻 Never fear, I am
      🔍finding good homes🏘 for a lot things too. Also passing on a portion of my own {& fraternal grannies} stuff in the process.)
      🖤 Love, love, love the different silhouettes of Asian pieces, esp. the lidded ginger jars.
      🖤Loved most of the colors my parents picked too, 😔but not so much of the 💐floral, 🎏carp, crane, temples, or 🎎other traditional patterns👎. For the vases, bowls, tea pots, etc. used in display, my solution is really simple. ⚛Rotation.
      #1🔁Swap 'em out, so I can enjoy all them. Just not all out at once without feeling like I live in a boutique. 🛍Allows me to shop my own "closet" in essence for a fresh seasonal look.
      #2↪Rotate actual items when out on display🏺, so any obtrusive pattern portion is facing toward the wall (or the center if they were in a grouping). These stunning pieces can be appreciated without all the traditional imagery facing outward that is not as pleasing to me.
      #3↩ Do leave the motifs I love facing outward⚱. These pieces typically make sense of my color groupings too. (A girl with "matchy" instincts needs things that make sense.)
      #4 Trying to develop my own bohemian* eclectic aesthetic that leans:
      ▪Mid-19th Century. Pierre-Auguste Renoir vintage romantic, rustic French style with a literary (academic/scholarly) twist. ▪20th Century influences from 1930s/40s as well as mcm|atomic age.
      ▪Heavy on kitsch and pop-culture vintage vibe where sense of whimsy come in.
      (*Not to be confused with Boho Chic that favors heavy 1970s vibes & Danish mod).
      ☯️Desire a balance of ♀️+ ♂️. Love grand estates like in "Downton Abbey," but I hail from generations of hearty 🐴farm🐮 folk. I belong "below stairs"⬇️. Love beauty & elegance, but not ultra fussy formal furnishings, decor, or style.
      #5 🍽Largely favor industrial style dishware that can "take a licking, but keep on ticking⌚." Although nowadays, l am also mixing in some fancier, finer (more special occasion) things that deserve to be 🔃rotated🔄 in on a more regular basis.
      #6 ♻️Plus, there is no reason beautiful things can't also be cleverly repurposed to fit everyday functional needs too.
      ☄Et Voila. So far these principles are helping me create a home that ultimately sparks joy!
      ~~~~~~~~~~
      ✉ ps Her pretty Japanese floral pink vase set strikes me as 1980s. My parents once had a similar set in dark gray. 😉I would've kept if in pink instead.
      🖤Love Japanese ceramics. Overall, they do favor quirky shapes & sizes, esp. on lidded dishes. They are genius with smaller vessels.
      🤔Surprisingly, I had already acquired several mod Japanese solid rose pink serving pieces in 80s that I originally mixed-n-matched with classic white ware. So, in essence, I never strayed too far from my parents color schemes or preferences.
      🕯Sorry, not on the same page.
      😮Open flames kinda freak me out anyway. 😝Hate matches & lighters. 🌬After a lifetime of secondhand smoke, my lungs don't need anymore. Besides, I also grew up in a wildfire area🔥. When outdoors will sometimes light citronella candles to ward off dratted mosquitos.
      👃For scent, I like the metal rings from 💐Crab Tree & Evelyn (circa 90s) that sit on top of a light bulb💡. You fill the rings with drops of essential oils. Once ♨️heated by the bulb, the perfume will nicely permeate the room.
      😉 Don't as a rule buy candles, but I understand her desire to preserve it. 🐚Have a set of light blue vintage Avon shell-shaped soaps inherited from my Gramma Ruby💋 (a former award-winning rep). They reside in a lidded apothecary jar where no guest would mistake their primary purpose. That is, in my case, to spark joy🎉.
      👐To wash hands, liquid handsoap is available in a clear glass (pump) bottle. That method seems far more hygienic. ✌😊🤙
    You should turn the two large white swirly glass vases into lamps. A lamp shop could wire them for you. They would be stunning!
    • @teresacarle294
      @teresacarle294 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
      🍥That would be a cool repurpose for this pair.
      ▪They💲sell bottle lamp kits that rest in the top opening. They would probably work in a vase like that w/a narrow neck. Range from $15-40 USD.
      ▪🔌No drilling needed for the power cord. It's not the traditional way to wire a lamp, but it will work w/o ruining the vessel as a 🌼vase.
      ▪Depending on the style of kit, she might have to buy the lamp shades with the metal clips that clip over the light💡bulb.
      🤔Something to keep in mind.
    I just wanna make an appreciation post for Alex and the sheer amount of work she very clearly puts into her videos.
    The content is never boring, the editing is on point.. every s i n g l e one is 15+ minutes (most at least 20). That's a long runtime for a TH-cam video, and I can say with certainty that they keep my attention, I never feel bored, nor do they feel drawn out. If anything, I'm left wishing they were longer.
    She is a 10/10 flawless content creator who is unproblematic and feels like a real genuine person rather than someone just trying to profit off their audience, even drawing to attention the inner workings of working on TH-cam and the somewhat shady stuff that goes on there.
    I first visited for Archie, but I subbed and stayed for Alex. We do not deserve her but need more like her.
    Honesty the thrifting series is something that feels so personal and organic and honest that its wholesome content and buying from second hand stores is something more people are able to do budget wise and more consumer friendly. Its definitely worth waking up in the morning for and watching right away as it brings joy to my day before starting work.
    My college had a glass blowing program and it was always so fascinating to watch them through the door windows in the hallway. They'd also open mini markets in the school sometimes to sell the glass they've made and I picked up some beautiful Christmas ornaments that I will treasure forever. So much respect for hand blown glass!
      🐱Yes, my pal has four adorable beasts. (Two sets of sisters.)
      🎄She skips the tree as a result of past fiascos.
      On top of being wildly playful, three are super skittish. They've accidently broken things on lower levels in their haste to get away.
      She does have a couple of high ledges where these acrobats can't climb. These are the only two places she can safely display some ⚱vases and pretty bottles.
    Make sure you leave the salt lamp running all the time - usually it’s a super low wattage. - if you turn it off and on it actually will leak everywhere.
    • @Sonca321
      @Sonca321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5
      Until I read your comment, I didn't even know that salt lamps can actually leak. I've had salt lamps all my life and that has never been an issue. I would have never thought that a humid environment might be problematic for salt lamps seeing as how I live in Germany where it's not particularly humid. You live and learn. Thanks for the info!
