- In this episode I walk you through everything you need to purchase and how to perform the 40k mile service yourself on your Porsche 911 (991.1 specifically). Doing this service yourself is a lot easier than you think and can save you thousands. I cover each step in detail so all you have to do is follow along.

My daughter & I had fun working and saving on uncle's 959. TPMS is about $15,000.00/each. If you can buy it.
We removed all 4 TPMS sensors out of the wheels. Informed my 11 years old daughter to notes the position on sensors.
She opens the sensors, weight them, removes those batteries, weights them to match like before & installs them back.
Next project, we are doing oil changes & filter and spark plugs replacement on an F40.

22:54 those fasteners are called E Torx or External Torx.

Great video. Looking at your engine air filters, they looked like they are oil soaked. In my experience they tend to foul the `Mass Air FLow Sensor’ .

Great video. I have a 2014 991.1 and just had the oil change, cabin air and engine air filters replaced and it came to $851, and that’s with my 10% PCA discount. Scottsdale, AZ Porsche…yep 😢. The 40k service is $1400….but lChandler, AZ Porsche recommended the serpentine belt at the 40k also and they quoted overall $2800 !

Yeah, did my own 80k service at total of $550 and 1 day and a quick Jack. Quick release extensions are key with spark plugs. Serpentine as well. Time and patience and save over 2k.
GREAT video! I replaced my plugs last week at 78K miles (2013 911 C2). I noticed some residue on the plug threads similar to what yours show (plus mine had a minor amount of liquid oil). I don't know if it's an area of concern...but before going in and checking on them later on I think I'm going to service the air/oil separator and start clean from there. Otherwise no exhaust smoke, CEL, or anything like that, the engine runs incredibly well.

I have a 992, and it has a plastic oil pan, and plastic oil drain plug which relies on a o-ring for seal and not crush washer.
so it is much easier to remove and put back on the drain plug. no need for a torque wrench.
I can change oil even without lifting the car at all. I bought 2 of those round 7 liter oil drain pan at Walmart for $4 each, which is only about 3 inches tall.
so, I just have to move the first one when it is about 3/4 full and manuever in the other one. yes, there will be few drops of spilled oil.
You can change the oil on a 992 without lifting the car? Do you have super long skinny arms… or is the drain plug in a really convenient location near the edge of the car?
@@tedjohnson64 I'm about 5'10" tall and 150 pound. the drain plug can be reached without too much effort.

Dang, didn’t know I had to have a lot of money to be a true car guy. Makes me recall why I don’t go to PCA events anymore…too many with that mindset.
21:36 50 Nm = 37 lbf.ft. I usually tighten the drain bolt to that or 35 lbf.ft.

@@seandenny2412 I would say yes. Shouldn’t need to at 40k but if so, I would let a shop do that part.
How many miles you change the oil?
What’s the torque on the spark plugs and do you have to do anything to them, like put lubricant on the threads etc?

Not sure on the exact torque for the plugs. I tightened them just until firm, but was careful not to over tighten. I did not use any lubricant on them. I did not replace the coil packs.
Spark plug torque is 17ft/lb
First of all, thank you very much for your extremely helpful videos. My 2014 turbo just hit the 40,000 mile mark, and I will be doing the servicing. Do I have to remove the rear wing? I noticed that you make a note to remove it on a fixed wing configuration. Mine is the OEM turbo wing. Does it matter? Thank you very much.

992 models require C40 oil ..like liqui moly 4110 model oil 5w40

l do my own oil and filter changes, but having to remove body panels and the fan assembly is to much for me. how do you put it all back together yourself? l have an FG falcon, which is easy for DIY compared to your Porsche.
Just the reverse of how I took it off. As long as you go slowly, label things if you need to, and even take photos so you remember how it goes back it’s not that bad.
When changing oil based on time, not miles, how many years do you use as your change rule?
Depends on how you drive it but I usually do it once a year regardless of mileage

How in the heck do you take off that TechArt fixed wing. I bought vehicle with it and attempted to remove but could not. They say there are 2 screws behind the 3rd brake light but can’t remove that brake light lens without feeling like it’s going to break
There are just two large bolts on mine, left and right back near the bolts for the taillights, that screw down into the car
I tried those 2 big bolts and pushed forward and back but would not budge

Probably $1000+ depending on your location and the dealer

The dealer sells the oil filter seal separately. Total scam . They remove the oil seal from the filter box and sell it separately!😮
Porsches do not take a 5/16" anything :)
