This channel is wonderful, and especially for people with ADHD. The visuals, info, pacing etc.

This was very helpful as a possibly adhd adult wanting to learn more about medication. My family health doctor was very concerned about the heart side effects, saying that in 10 to 20 years I could be coming back for a heart valve if I start on something like ritalin. I figured that might be a bit exaggerated but told him I wanted to learn more.

Stimulant medication is a horrible thing for me. I don't take it anymore. It turned me into a puzzled teen.

I take extended release medication (lisdexamphetamine) 2x per day, like the immediate release medication, because otherwise I experience a dopamine crash during the evening.

That dopamine "crash" you speak of, is just the medicine wearing off daily....as its supposed to, so that you can eat & sleep!! If I took extended release after 1pm, I was up most of the night. THEN I saw extended release goes for around 12 hrs... duh lol. Anyway, the best routine I eventually got to for me, was extended release in the morning, then 6 hrs later I took an immediate release. That way I didnt have anymore activating again 3hrs before bedtime. I did that ALOT...forget to take it early enough, but took it anyway smh.

Why is the drawing for ADHD a guy freaking out on his knees? That representation seems inaccurate and a bit insensitive. Maybe a small nitpick but as someone with ADHD I'm very sensitive to the prevalent negative stigmas. Otherwise thank you all for your great videos and work!

Because he can’t get his meds due to the current shortage. It illustrates our struggle to focus in work or school!

As a person with ADHD, the way you presented the Side Effects section for CNS stimulants is atrocious. You focused really heavy on the negative aspects as if they are opiates while speaking nothing of the positive affects that give many of us the only chance to function with normal society without struggling so hard every day. No wonder getting treatment is so hard and we're treated like drug addicts for a psychiatric disorder. The pediatric section was comprehensive; for adults, abysmal. About equivalent to a male telling a woman in active labor how much pain she's in.

I think it was presented in the same way as other drugs, it explained how it works and the potential side effects. By knowing the potential complications medical professionals can keep the people taking these medications safe. For example before prescription blood tests, CTG and blood pressure monitoring are carried out so people at high risk of complications aren't prescribed stimulants.
I think it's also important for the person using stimulants to know about the potential risks so they can make an informed choice when they start medication. This way they can also be aware of signs to look out for like an irregular heartbeat.

I have to agree Carrie, the side effects listing was basically "These are highly addictive drugs that will destroy your heart and may cause you to drop dead!", which is ridiculous, unless you're abusing the hell out of them rather than taking them as properly directed.

You do sound like an addict.
She clearly stated it's used to treat adhd and it increases focus while reducing impulsivity. The side effects mentioned must be emphasized on because med students watch these videos and need to take care when they prescribe it in the future in order to prevent aggravation of any pre-existing disease or causing a debilitating side effect like myocardial infarction.
I think the only problem you really have is you can't get it without a prescription.

@@tefahunter1880 And u should hush with your misinformation lol! Its obvious you're trying to pretend you know this stuff, when you actually dont. If you did, you wouldnt have added that ignorant, immature & judgemental last sentence... that just screams "uneducated ghetto babble" lmao.
