Elvis must be the most photographed human being in history. His entire life was surrounded with cameras. Yet it is hard to find a photo where he doesn’t look cool.
You make some great points about 1971, Sean. He was busy enough, but it seems Elvis was already on the way to getting into another routine and, later on, a rut (knock a few letters out of routine and you're left with rut). Following the success of TTWII, a world tour would have been great. Not to be, though.
Thanks David, you're absolutely right about the world tour. 71 follows the pattern of much of Elvis's career really - frustrated ambition and missed opportunities. It's as if he was always in the ring with one arm tied behind his back, but it's too easy to blame it all on The Colonel. Elvis could have and should have taken more control of his destiny
I think 71 was a "catch the breath " year for Elvis and a chance to set plans up for the next year or so . He looked great and proved the last two years weren't a fluke and he was truly back and on top of his game . We are lucky still to be able to get some good recordings from that year and of course the books too Sean .
@@sincerelyelvispresley Looking in on buying the 50th anniversary edition book. Found it, don't have to think about it..!!! .( Wallet is....). Do have any cds of 1971? I really like the mrs international presents Elvis 1971cd.🐱.
That one's definitely worth a purchase! Yes, I do have a few from 71, including the MRS set. I think I'll be looking at them next episode (been a while since I recorded it! 😂)
Hello again, Sean! I have the Kieran Davis book and the Elvis Files, so not too expensive this week! I’ll pick that Boston Gardens book up at some point - I took my daughter to hold the gold belt before the exhibition closed. I’ve picked up 3 of Kieran’s books fairly easily - 70, 71 and 74. I’d love to get the rest! He doesn’t appear to have a website. I was tracking the Fashion Fit For A King book. Mark featured it on his channel and it was enough to make me decide I DON’T need it unless it comes up at a silly price. I think Kieran’s books present the jumpsuits better. There is a book there for someone - a detailed record of the jumpsuits with some close-up photography. I took lots of shots at Graceland with my lens up against the display cabinet so the real detail of the suits was captured. The suits are one of the closest things you can see to get a real feel of the man. Anyway, this month’s budget has gone on a secondhand copy of Elvis Files Vol. 2 and the Guitar Man box. Can’t wait for that Christmas MRS..! Cheers Sean! Gary
Hi Gary, Kieran does have a site, if you do a search for Keiran Davis Elvis books, you'll find it, but to say the site is basic would be a huge understatement! Fashion For A King is ok, but littered with typos and grammatical errors, which is pretty unacceptable for such a high-priced book. I'm going to pass on the MRS Christmas album, have too many copies already!
Have you bought any of the Music On Vinyl releases? On Stage arrived today. The reproduction of the inner sleeve is almost worth the price of admission alone. There’s a stunning 60 x 60 cm poster of the cover inside. I’ll be looking for a frame 😊.
Another interesting video Sean❤ I agree, it's easy to think that 1971 has been a sort of more silent year in his career comparing to 1970 and 1972. But it was a great year too ..
Yeah another homerun video Sean ,that Keiran Davis book looks indeed fantastic ,have to get my hands on that one ,you see you do break my bankacount😁😁just kidding. 1971 still a great year for Elvis especialy the jaycee award ,great video my friend👍👍👍
Thanks so much buddy. Not that I'm encouraging reckless spending or anything but Elvis 4 Sale has the Keiran Davis book for just £60, which is a great price. Will be watching your new vid later this evening. The wall art looks great!
To those who may enjoy classic 60’s Vegas crooner style, Frank Sinatra did great versions of the song Without A Song, live on stage at the Sands, early 60’s. Which is where I first took note of the lyrics that Elvis later incorporated into his acceptance speech, but he would have based it Roy’s version of it, sure. Another great video, good concepts behind these !
Good explanation of a forgotten year Sean. I've said before that you have some great books. I have a few shows from 71 on ftd and boots. Thank you and happy Monday.
You do such great videos Sean, very comprehensive, and you go to a lot of effort to have all the relevant books on hand to flip through. The Elvis world is lucky to have such dedicated fans like you, Mark in the UK, Mark in the USA, David in Belgium, Harald in Austria, Steve and Rick in the USA, and many, many more, to keep his legacy alive. I find it interesting that it is mostly the male fans who have such in-depth knowledge and huge collections of books, CDs, DVDs and records. There are plenty of You Tube channels hosted by us girls, but we tend to take a different slant on Elvis, more emotional perhaps? I know I get a bit emotional on my videos sometimes when a particular photo or song tugs at my heart strings :-( I also appreciate that most of you guys avoid the subject of the ex wife and the rest of the family who I consider largely irrelevant to the memory of Elvis. OUCH, I know some people will say Lisa and Reilly are important, but not to me. I"m an ELVIS fan, period.
Aw thanks Gina, nice of you to say, and you make a very interesting point about differences in approach and perspectives. Perhaps it could be argued that gents naturally lean towards a more 'train spotter' approach to collecting anything. I, of course, couldn't possibly comment 😉
