getting to it on my 98 tacoma a friend told would require me to practically remove the dash. this seems like a way to clean it to some degree, at least.
How do you get physical access to the evaporator coils in case a more deep cleaning needs to be done? Pretty sure I have an infestation of insects or something in my A/C.

You would have to take it further apart you could always look online to see if there's any diagrams if you're not sure of how to do it
Why does every Tacoma battery have a paint stick shim to keep them in place?!?!
