Your ur video saved my sanity this morning Last night I replaced condenser , drier, compressor, evap and expansion v. and all orings,,, the last thing was connecting the wires harness by evap and for the life of me, i couldn't find where the one grey 6 pin other half went... I dug everywhere so I thought but rewatched your vid today and paid close attention to that part and saw exactly where it went, I stuffed it In the back when I put in the evap. got lucky and unbolted 1 bolt and I squeezed it out. I vacuumed, charged and it is now freezing :) I live on Kauai So I definitely needed it fixed! So thank you very much for your precise explanation on all of it. It was a great Vid for anyone wanting to do it.

So glad toyota still used this type because most US vehicles, the entire dash and AC/Heater assy comes out. A huge job. This is not bad. The stuff leaking was most likely oil leaking out and you are suppose to add oil to the new evap but there usually is enough in the entire system. As for the expansion valve, yes, if you replace, you want to go OEM. And these cheaper aftermarket evaporator cores do not last real long either but vacuuming system is very important because moisture will turn to acid and eat the new evap fairly quick. And lastly, the little thing with the wire is called a thermistor. It's basically a thermostat and if the evap core gets too cold, it turns off the AC compressor to keep the evap from freezing.

Thanks alot kid. This helps alot. Restoring a 2003 Single cab with the 2RZ.. Pretty much everything is the same except for one the hoses has a special clamp and requires a special two prong pick tool..

Its not burning [at least initially]: it's oil mist. It mimics hints of smoke and can be just enough to make your taste buds wonder what's up in higher concentrations. Unexplained inner windshield haze is sometimes a good clue if the evap has a pinhole, and unexplained oil stains are a dead giveaway. Cars are about impossible to use a sniffer style leak detector, in so many places so best bet is dye injection. That lets you shut it down, take apart airbox etc and hunt with a UV light A yellowish light green will be visible around any leak. For those who just top off refrigerant, that will get you by for a little while, but do that for say... a year, and enough oil loss may have occurred that the compressor is trying to burn up. You will not see refrigerant in an evacuated system: that's oil. Compressors and coils typically ship with a small nitrogen charge - helps prevent corrosion fom air & moisture so keep caps ar covers in place until diving into job.

What a great video! Thanks a lot. However, I do have one question, when you put the dryer on at the end and you said to take it to the mechanic when you have it filled up. I’m wondering if I can go get my own refrigerant and fill it up by myself at the house, instead of having to go to a shop?
is this different than the Heater Core? Mine is leaking thick clear fluid from the firewall from the black rubber outlet on the right hand side.
Question, shouldn’t the lines that were reused be cleaned with acetone or some mineral oil ? Or is that just a preference?

Hi, Maybe you can point me to a problem I am having.. My Tacoma prerunner V6 2004, Compressor seized. I bought the following; Condenser, Drier, Compressor to replace with new. I can't
measure the oil in the old compressor because its seized and nothing is coming out. That is why I decided to change mostly all except the evaporator and expansion valve. Further more All was installed with new o rings and vacuum perfectly. Filled with 23 oz 134a, High Gauge pressure reads, but the low side nothing shows nothing. Low side Gauge works because when I was charging it I saw the low side go down. Only thing I can think of it's the expansion valve clogged from the compressor being seized. Keep in mind I did not replace the Expansion valve or the Evaporator. Am I correct on the Valve damaged clogged?
ADD 40cc PAG46 oil to Evaporator
ADD 125cc PAG46 oil to Compressor*
ADD 40-50cc PAG46 oil to Condenser
ADD 20cc PAG46 oil to Receiver/Dryer
Did you have to let go of the free on ?

@@howtohermione2 btw when you get a part like that it comes pre charged with nitrogen. That is to keep moisture out of the system and the less moisture there is the easier it is to put the system into a vacuum
Aren't original toyota part JDM , OEM are more for U.S domestic cars .are Japanese domestic Market Toyota part includes in that definition . 🤔 . just saying , since much Toyotas/Honda are made in U.S & Canada
OEM means "Original Equipment Manufacturer" and has nothing to do with being domestic, jdm, Japanese, etc.

Evap core straight ripe pain in the ass. Always is. I've yet to see a car where it isn't.
Pretty easy on this truck though considering a lot of cars you have to remove the whole dash i think

I'm about to do this same thing. Does it matter the sequence of components (evap, condenser, etc) you replace? I plan to get it vacuumed/recharged after replacing all components you listed.
How much did it cost you to buy all the parts if you don't mind telling?
@@aronharrington sorry it's been so long I didn't see this reply. I would just watch the videos out there I found many and this one helped me out tons. Hope by now it's all up and going :) I believe I did the condenser, drier compressor and then evap.
The vacuumed out the air then charged. I dont think there really is an order but def could be wrong.
@@jdmDC2ftw hi there, I bought everything on eBay. The condenser was 120 or so , compressor 75-100 ( I have one for sale that I bought by accident still boxed up and i ship to you 😉) I sell it to you for 60 .
Also the EVAP and orings weren't very much . I know all together wasn't very much considering and anyone can do it by watching vid and rewatching over and over if you lose a wire like I did 😜. Good luck
@@bulldogsandlife you are right, the order wasn't very important. This video helped A LOT! I replaced everything and now the A/C works like it should.
