    I've fixed purge valves by spraying carb cleaner in both ports and shake it all around, drain and repeat a few times. Let it dry out over night and they work fine afterwards.

      I haven't tried wd40 but I wouldn't. Wd40 is a solvent but also a lubricant so it would probably leave oils inside the purge valve. I will also add that it is probably best to replace the purge valve, while after cleaning mine it did work I ended up getting a code a few months later and it was the purge valve again.

    I would just like to state that just because it passes the bench test does does not mean it's good. They can work intermittently down the road and make the check engine light come on. I had 2 do this, and changing them out fixed the problem. Also just because a part is brand new in the box does not mean it's always good. Took me a few years of experience to figure this out. Just passing this information on, to save maybe you from changing everything else, and then coming back to the original problem. (Pick a Part saves money)

      These seem to be a problem with Toyota Corolla from what I’m experiencing. Would this be the problem with a P2401 Evaporative Emission Leak Detection Pump,or is this a different issue?
      Awesome video,just wondering if the evap purge solenoids are bad on my 05 and 07 Corolla’s.
      Thanks,Chad

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chadhouse1375 Hi Chad, p2401 could be related not only to the leaks detection pump which controlled by ECM. It could be the circuit wiring issue (very common) and also it might be any other EVAP system related problems down the road. I would test ground, power and signal ect at the pump, then look for any leaks. Pumps intend to fail over time as well. Take the pump out and test for any defects. Let me know if you found the cause or you have any questions. TNX.

    I have a Toyota purge valve that behaves exactly like the small valve you tested in this video. But when I read the service manual which shows you how to test the valve, it says if the valve is good, when it's off, outside out of the car like in this video and no voltage applied, you can blow from the canister side port and the air would come out of the intake side port with 'little difficulty'. This confuses me because, in that condition, should there be air coming out of the intake side port at all?

    The pressure may increase slightly (vacuum level drop) while sitting since the air cools off when pressure is reduced then it slowly heats back to ambient temperature, raising the pressure. Similarly, if you pressurize air, it heats then the final pressure relaxes a bit as it cools.

      3-6 volts will be enough. I used 9v small battery for the rest.

      I ain't sure with b15 design but one side of the purge valve should get connected to the upper intake manifold or somewhere to the air induct pipe passed maf sensor.

    Good Afternoon my friend! I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan and i was performing an evap smoke test but i have no tool or equipment to use that will allow me to close and open the evap components, what can i use?

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi brotha! I would check for leaks before PCV (tank-canister-PCV) and after (PCV-intake manifold) with home made smoke machine. Tons of vids on TH-cam. Well, without Bi-directional control diagnostic tool you cannot operate solenoid valves without powering them directly how I did in my video. Cheers!

    when power was applied to the purge valve while under vacuum the needle dropped to zero. What does it indicate if the needle doesn't drop and continues to hold vacuum?

    Greetings! I tested my purge valve on my 2006 Town & Country and the vacuum (17 inHg) decreased over a few minutes time; I purchased a new one from Pep Boys (standard motor products) and figured I should test the new one before I installed it. The new one also didn't hold the vacuum! What should I do now? Return it or what?

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael. Thanks for sharing your experience. I went to local junk yard, pulled one out for 10$, plus got 30 days free exchange or credit. So far no any problems. If valve doesn't hold vacuum bring it back. Sorry for the late reply.

      That is correct. It could be ground or power issue down to the solenoid as well.

    REMOVE MY PURGE VALVE ON MY 2012 GENESIS THE ARROW ON THE VALVE POINT TO LINE GOING TO CANSITER SOMEONE TOLD ME THE ARROW SHOULD POINT TO INTAKE ENGINE CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT WAY IT GOES.

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good evening Jesse. Normally arrow shows gasoline vapors flow from charcoal canister, where they stored, to the engine intake. PCV solenoid regulates gasoline flow to the engine. I would recommend you to verify the information with your vehicle technical service manual. Another tip, when you mount PCV valve there is usually only one to mount it properly and connected lines to it. Thanks for watching. Let me know how everything is going.

      @@dustinbergeron7508 Hi Dustin,
      1) check EVAP system for any small and large leaks before and after purge solenoid. Look for any Evap tubing visual defects.
      2) smoke test will help to find and detect any leaks. Its pretty simple to do, just google "smoke test"
      I will do that first then go to check any electrical issues with circuit.
      Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

    For those asking. To activate the solenoid simply connect a wire lead to each negative and positive terminal posts on your battery and touch the pins. If it clicks and opens it means is good. If it doesnt click that usually means the valve is no good, its usually stuck open wont hold pressure which is no good.
