    The place names (Plains of Terror, Tundra of Coldness) really give me a Dwarf Fortress vibe

      It bothers me a little bit that they are so clumsy. But they could also be used as inspiration for creating a little bit more natural names. I wonder though, if the name kind of just remains background. It would be interesting if there were tools to create vampire quests for the city for example.

      There is no story. The only story is what you make by connecting the dots between quests and events. My kind of storytelling in games. The game presents a whole bunch of random shit, then it's up to you to piece it together if you want to.

    Building the map conjures up vibes of custom galaxy building in Traveller RPG--lots of tables to roll on as you proceedurally build out lots of connected star systems.

      True. Traveler had a lot of overhead just to get a game going.
      Alternatively, see Five Parsecs From Home, it's an awesome, solo, sci fi world/story generator. Super cool.

    I've been disappointed by randomized adventures in the past as they fail to keep my attention. The fact that whatever's behind a door or over a hill is randomized removes all intrigue and makes me wonder "why bother". (E.g., Four Against Darkness is a good system and their scripted adventures are fine, but the instant random features appear I lose interest.) Have you tried the d100 Dungeon campaigns, and are they that random? This system seems hella-cool, but I'd hate to buy even just a pdf and instantly regret it.

    Thank you very much for this review!! I never played D100 but after seeing your video, I want to give it a try! In another matter, have you ever played Ironsworn? If so, how do you compare it from D100? I've played 4 against darkness a lot but the campaign became "redundant" (if its a word!) at some point! Maybe D100 give us some backstory and some narrative campaign with this new expansion? I think its what you suggested, but I'm wondering at which point your story VS the story suggested by the author become possible? In your Scarlett Heroes campaign you build your own stories but with this, it seem its already framed...I would like your opinion after a few play! haha! The first few games are always the best!

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I have not played Ironsword, but I have it on order along with the KS for the new SF version. I think 4AD is better for shorter campaigns, and D100D is better for long term campaigns. There isn't really much back story or narrative, though. It's totally up to the player to connect the dots. D100D is a generator of random things that happen, and then the player has to determine the best way to overcome those things, along with a lot of luck.

    • @harringtonmartin
      @harringtonmartin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The first expansion for D100 Dungeon has rules for party/group play, so converting it to group play would actually be fairly easy. Some aspects of the World Builder game might have to rely on one party member being the focus of the overall rolls and upkeep, but converting it to group play is trivial. I have a three-man party within the World Builder game right now, played solo.

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@harringtonmartin I can't even begin to imagine book keeping three characters in this game! That's like a full-time accounting job. :)

    • @harringtonmartin
      @harringtonmartin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheDungeonDive It's actually worse than that (or better). I have a lot of homebrew material for keeping the Hero Paths more distinct and varied as you gain experience, so they feel very much like individual paths instead of vague introductory paths. All together, playing a party solo - with all my extras - is a labor of love, but I wouldn't recommend it to those who don't like the work.

    I agree with you that having a page with 2 columns of text would help. I had the same impression with book 1. I think the reason that columns are not used it's just because the designer is not using them in Adobe. I don't think it's a issue with drivethrurpg. Lulu & drivethru takes a pdf columns or not.

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s just how the books are designed. I have plenty of POD books with columns. Just how the author has laid out the pages.

    Hi, I have a question: I've started playing d100 dungeon a week ago. Not too much time, I'm still on my first quest, but I definitely like it very much, I think I have clear the basic rules even though I still go through the pdf while playing because I remember most of them but I'm still reviewing them. I also bought the world builder exp but I still haven't read it because I wanted to be good at basic rules before going to that expansion
    So now, seing that you have to start with a new character, I'm asking myself whether to start immediately with world builder or wait some more time while I go through the first 5 dungeons. What do you suggest?

    So could you just play using this book or do you also need the original D100 book
    Also it alaways seems like when I find a new system (new to me)
    I purchase it and then a newer edition comes out
    How likely is a new edition of this entire product line to come out soon or within a year ?

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're worried about new editions, buy the PDF from Drivethru so you always have access to the latest updates. The World Builder is an expansion for D100D, so for a full game you need both. If you just want to create a world you could use the WB expansion on its own.
