    Love that you love this (I thought you would!). And I love your idea of filling the box with paper memories. That's so poetic. Thanks for the shout out... wish we could have seen some of your gameplay. The bumbling adventures would have been fun to see play out.
    And (naturally) I agree with you that this is a game with longevity--I'm sure I will be playing this for years to come, in various incarnations--it's that malleable. Nice vid.

      @@TheDungeonDive Yep... Really my only ding on the game is that the combat should be developed more than it is. I hope the designer goes more deeply into that with his new material. Oh, that and the fact that the rules are spread everywhere as I have noted, you have noted, and basically everyone has noted. It's a great game and your vid is inspiring me to take it out again.

    Hello, I know this is an old video but hopefully this question finds you... I would like to dive in solo rpg but am looking for a system that lets you explore a world by looking up tables and going on quests. I don’t really like CYOA books or oracle-type systems…
    D100 seems like a system that offers this, especially with the world building expansion. The only other system that interests me is Scarlet Heroes but it appears that you have to integrate another existing system (like DnD) and an oracle. With all the tables, I understand that an oracle-type system is not required with D100 and you can just dive in on various quests…is my understanding correct ? Thanks for the great videos, you have a new sub 🙂

      There are no oracles in D100D. It plays more like a board game.

I've played a few sessions awhile back but I'm about to get down with it & see if I can get some characters to level 5 so I can try out the Four Against the Abyss expansion. Great, Great Game... Good review. Keep up the good work. Eric Peters-More options than four against darkness. The lay out of Martins books and rules make this game have so many options but so easy to play. Which makes this game one of my Top 5 . Start out with 1st book to under stand the rules. I also like Four Against Darkness, Fabled Lands, Destiny Quest. Anything that Martin comes out with, I will buy. I play this with my son, being the DM which makes it super easy because I just roll on the tables . I also play this solo. Excellent game!!!

      Both scratch totally different itches for me. D100D feels more like a board game with high structured play. Scarlet Heroes is more open and free form. It really depends on what I’m in the mood for.

    Hello I was wondering what books would you suggest a new player get? There are alot! I have played DnD 3.5, 4th ED, pathfinder and have some other solo games. But there are alot! of stuff for this game and how easy or hard would it be to plug in your own settings or pull from other books? I have tons of roll charts as well so that is not an issue for extra stuff there. Thanks again bud :-)

    Hey, there is a fanmade campaign, called: "V3 D100 Dungeon Campaign" in the facebook groups download section. I will never play the game without it again. It allows you to explore the land. There are different kinds of countryside you walk through, you find towns, villages, crypts, wizards towers, npcs that provide you with quests etc.

    Hey Daniel, sorry for the following wall of text ^^. I really enjoy all your content and give a lot to your opinion! I would like to hear your thoughts on a comparison between D100 Dungeon and Dungeon Degenerates. For a better understanding what I mean with this question I wanna give you a brief background about me as a boardgamer. The real hobby (not to say passion) initially started with medium to heavy weight euro style games like scythe, terraforming mars, great western trail, maracaibo, underwater cities, feast for odin etc. but more and more I started to enjoy more narrative style, ameritrash crawls and adventure games. Coming from the euro segment it was easy for me to fell in love with mage knight to get my personal bridge from euro mechanics into adventure rpg style games. Since then I picked up the lord of the rings lcg, pathfinder - adventure card game, machina arcana 2nd edition, aftermath and hexplore it forests of adrimon. (I love all of them for a lot of reasons!) I dont fear long games. I have a seperate table and no issue with playing hexplore it for example on 3-4 evenings. But time is always limited, especially with 3 kids, and spending money should always be well thought out. Now, you might have an idea about what games I might like and which games not. I want a game in my collection where I can really dive into. On the one side, I only heared very good things about Dungen Degenerates and I love the artwork which really helps my immagination. I like to have a good looking game on the table. But I am afraid, it could be a bit samey compared to pathfinder adventure card game and aftermath. Because in the end DD is "just" move and fight, isnt it? If I'd go with DD I would propably only buy the base game and mean street expansion. As for D100 Dungeon I would pick up all 3 books and go with the spell cards and mapping game as print and plays. I love the fact that I could just pull D100 out, play a quick random dungeon or a campaign style dungeon with the expansion book while having a small set up time or go for multiple dungeons in a row with only one character which has a steady progress over many games. I would love to hear your thoughts on that. Thanks and greetings from germany! Flo

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's way more going on in Dungeon Degenerates than Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. Tons of decisions to make in the missions that inform how the campaign progresses. But then again, I am not a fan of the PACG at all. I found it far too mechanical for my tastes. I never really felt like I was on an adventure, and just felt like I was playing a card game with fantasy art. But that's just me.
      If you get DD, I would highly recommend also getting the character expansions, as they add a ton to the game. With everything, DD feels like one of the more expansive adventure games I've played.
      D100 dungeon does offer a lot, but I think it feels smaller in scope to DD. It is much easier to quickly set up and play, so it has that going for it.
      In reality, the two games are vastly different from one another, so I'm not even sure I could compare them in a meaningful way that would be helpful.
      However, DD does feel similar to the games you've listed that you like, so you might get more out of D100 since it is more different than the others.

      @@TheDungeonDive Hey Daniel, as I mentioned, I wanna share my thoughts about D100 Dungeon with you. I took my some time to craft my own print and play mapping game, spell cards etc. and I was a little unsure how much I whould enjoy it, since it is very different from everything else that I have played before. I never was a pen and paper RPG gamer. BUT by the time I studied the rulebook and did my work into the world of D100 Dungeon I played it 16 days in a row! Like every evening a little bit, sometimes more sometimes less. I went through 12 quests by now and I am still having a blast! The events are so versatile it is amazing. I got suck in the world way more than I could have imagined. I really feel like I am my character. Yes it can be swingy as hell and unfair... but that just gives you the tension . The longer your character lives, the more quests he survived, the better loot he has found the less risk you wanna take in loosing him. You really get a feeling for how much you can risk in order to succeed in your current quest. I am totally looking forward to both of the expansions I bought aswell (dragon armor and the adventurers companion) it is a fantastic experience and a brilliant game design!

    I wonder (for my own research)...would you enjoy the same random table-rolling if the tables started out smaller (say with only 6-8 entries) and by progressing further into your campaign unlocking more entries until, by the end, you have 50-70 entry-sized tables? Or is it the kick of 'seeing all the potential table-roll outcomes' at the very beginning?

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I typically don’t like things that unlock over time, because who’s to say I’m going to stick with a game long enough to unlock things? This is one of the main reasons why I prefer Secrets of the Lost Tomb to Lost Station. I typically want the ability for everything to happen on the first turn of a game.

      4AD is party based while D100 dungeon is a solo character. D100 is definitely more random but far more fleshed out because of the range of choices. This is also prevalent especially with the D100 expansion book which adds even more options such as witchery, etc...
      Having said that...D100 is very swingy when it comes to combat because you can imagine the range of a D100 dice roll. The mitigation factors are insufficient and when you face against a creature with 'Fear' traits, it can really paralyze you.
      However, I believe both 4AD and D100 is in my opinion, is equally satisfying in different degrees. Both are recommended, especially in these times where we are staying at home more often than not...
